Superman attempted thrice to talk to Batman, but it's clear from Batman's expression that he had no interest to negotiate. Batman's of a one track mind - it wasn't easy to convince himself to finally go commit "the act" (he had to keep dehumanizing Superman in order to see him as less than a person), and he didn't want to be dissuaded from it, believing he was doing it for the greater good
See this is one of my issues with the film.
The execution of some key moments in the fight, and the film in general are just botched. For example you are completely right, he does try to stop him through speaking, Batman wants none of it. But it's done so poorly IMO. Superman is just saying the most vague terms. We all know he should easily have just hovered and said "Lex is playing you, save mom with me?". So give a good reason as to why that doesn't happen. Have Batman just not let Superman get a word in. Have him attack from the shadows, then the fight, give no chance for Superman to breath then have his last gasp be "please save Martha".
Same with the opening scene. I understand that Snyder is trying to make us feel said about Bruce's colleague dying but all I can think about is how much of a ****ing moron the guy is! The phone call is literally the first time this Jack seems to make a move on getting people out. If they changed that just so simply as to having Jack already evacuating people and Bruce saying "have you begun getting people out?" then it would have flowed so much better IMO.
This film is just a huge victim of pure editing and execution. It makes it 10000x more annoying to learn this film has be completely finished since 2015!
