I don't care for the Legion and all that crap. Too comicbook-y for the MoS approach.

MoS already seems more comicbook-y, and who knows what the sequels could expand to, along with possible JL movies? It just depends on how they handle the Legion.

If Man of Steel must be part of a shared universe, I'd rather it not get too crowded and I'd personally rather see the Legion omitted.

That is the thing, Nolan's Batman is all those things. That is why it is so good. It is intelligent and fun. It is moody, while still being fun and witty.

We can only hope for MoS and other DC properties to be that good.

Its is intelligent, however I'm not one of those who "praise" everything Nolan. Nolan's Batman is great but I don't want every DC film replicating its style. In the comic book/superhero world forget dark realism. It works with Batman, but its not for everyone. (IMO)

I love Nolan's movies as well, but I agree about the tone: it doesn't fit every heroes. the grounded thing is not the only way to make a CBM movie. Directors could still take inspiration from him in the way he creates tense and engaging stories where you feel for the characters though.

I love the Legion stuff but that won't be in this series. I personally think somewhere down the line (I'm talking years and years away) when they want to do a more kid friendly Superman film go with Superman and the Legion then.

I don't think a film has to be grounded like the Batman series in order to be thought-provoking -- just look at the entire science fiction genre.

yeah, that's why I said the grounded thing is not the only way to make a CBM.

Okay, but I don't think anyone was saying that.

noone said that in this thread, but it's something we heard a lot these past few years. That's what I was refering to.

Oh, ok. We were having a discussing a page or so ago about DC going for thought provoking film and Marvel going for popcorn. I thought you were referring to that.

I think a red son type ending would be pretty cool, or something similar to that.
but whatever it is, I do NOT want to see supes die.

What are you talking about? They're making it as grounded and gritty as possible with Superman. Everything we've seen thus far confirms that.

The fact that it involves Krypton, Superman and his powers, etc. is already more comicbook-y than something like Nolan's Batman for example. It's grounded, but I don't think it'll be so grounded that the JL and maybe the Legion of Superheroes can't be eventually introduced into the world.

Oh no, I wouldn't say that one is better than the other. as long as the story is engaging and the characters likeable, I'm happy!

And if Leo's happy I'm happy!

Though personally my favorite Superman stories were always the larger than life, silver Agey All-Star Superman type tales.

Obie!

yeah, All star Superman is probably my favorite Supes story ever. It's nothing short of brilliant, and the endinc is beyond epic!

Introducing time travel, and power rings, and a bunch of random aliens with very different superpowers, just seems.... over the top and unncessary.

Something that would pull gen audiences out of the movie.

Who knows what gen audiences will be like after they get used to more of these movies? Marvel's movies are starting to get pretty "out there" as well, as far as "comicbookiness" is concerned.

Because Marvel movies are very comicbook-y. They're the antithesis to the grounded and gritty approach in the Nolan Bat films and MoS.

I like the Marvel films for what they are, but I'd rather not see the MoS films become like one of them.

Though without Chris Nolan around, this could happen unfortunately.

Which is what I'd like to see happen. The Nolan-verse is great, but it feels so real and grounded at times that the fun of the DC Universe just isn't there for me. And MoS isn't really gritty, there haven't been any signs of that from what I've seen and heard. Just a more grounded approach, however the concepts in the movie are still very comicbook-y.

But Superman - no matter how “grounded” - still flies and shoots lasers from his eyes. Once you stipulate him, the door is open (it seems to me) for the other JL members - especially the sci-fi based ones. (WW and Aquaman - being “mystically” oriented - would be a tad more problematic. So... just give them the “magic is science” Thor treatment. :cwink:)

Exactly, that's the right idea.

we shall see. If it follows the superman mytho's, then he will age far slower than the humans around him. Imagine having to bury all your friends while you remain young.

Like someone else said tho, we won't know about him until we see MOS first.

I do think that if WB is serious about a JL film ( with Cavill in it ) then this is the film to start it off with, with hints or whatever else.
It makes no difference to me what they do tho.
