They know.

"Yeah... sure."

I'm sure they know...but I doubt any of their marketing decisions had anything to do with it.

Is WB smart enough to even know the 75th anniversary is incoming?

It may be shock to some but they are celebrating it as the 75 th Anniversary of DC Comics Not of the character of Superman (though both have the same date.)

Such an approach could be to avoid some legalities (read - one more lawsuit from Siegel and Shuster heirs)

For the next trailer, I Cant speak for anyone else, but I want to see supes and zod actually punch each other, if only just a quick shot of it.
A view of metropolis in ruins, with craters in the streets and holes in buildings. ( not the gravity beam shot, thats not what i'm looking for )
a shot of supes, zod, and fighter planes in a dogfight over SV.
a quick shot of krypton, from the outside, its landscape.
a sample of the score.
and end it with a shirt rip...or maybe just a tease of it. Clark is wearing a business suit. he reaches up and grabs it with both hands, and...fades to black.

I do wonder if they've even done a shirt rip, it might be best to save it for the film if so like a nice surprise. Personally I think the final shot should be Superman reaching out from the skulls, I bet that get a great WTF? reaction.

I would save that up for the film, definitely.

Zack Snyder knows.

“The thing that’s really special and hasn’t really been acknowledged is that ‘Man of Steel’ comes out on the 75th anniversary of ‘Action Comics’ No. 1,” the filmmaker said just before a stage appearance at the recent Hero Complex Film Festival. ”That’s the very first appearance of Superman. I haven’t seen people talk about that yet.”

Yeah I know we keep talking about CinemaCon and a possible trailer that week and I don't know...to me it seems like a likely scenario.

I was looking at stuff online tonight and found an article talking about Superman's 75th Anniversary and then I see the date....Action Comics #1 was published on April 18th, 1938. Well then I remembered what Warner Bros. and Peter Jackson did to celebrate The Hobbit's 75th anniversary last year which was a week long celebration, or Tolkien Week, and debuted new stills and a trailer among other activities.

Could WB do the same thing? Possibly get the ball rolling at the MTV Movie Awards with something that Sunday the 14th and then roll out those much rumoured character posters throughout the week with new stills and then finally a trailer released online, say Wednesday, with the CinemaCon presentation and then having the trailer attached on the big screen and IMAX with Oblivion that Friday on the 19th?

....Sounds like a hell of a coincidence of events but we'll see.

Whoa! I hadn't thought of that! Great job, Sir! :applaud Just when I got fine and dandy with the idea of the trailer at the end of the month, here you come to give me hope and expectations for that week! If nothing happens, I expect pizzas and beers as compensations! :ikyn

I'm sooo with you on this one, buddy! ;-)

That seems like something other fandoms would be lucky enough to have. Not ours.

LOL, WB India posted on their Twitter

He goes where no man dares & sees what no man can envision. With the Man of Steel defending humankind ENEMIES BEWARE!

And attached the old image of Supes with army behind him but in big resolution (2048x889). I would post it in the official photo topic but then everyone would get excited and think it's a new photo. Im not that cruel. :woot:

Also, CapedWonder.com posted on their FB that their WB contact told them he has seen the new 3 minute trailer. They gave a vague description and one line that Superman says (about his S) but I don't think you lot will like it. It goes with my previous speculation that the new trailer will not be action heavy but continue on the tone set by the teaser and first trailer. Hopefully they be wrong. Quite frankly I have no idea how reliable CapedWonder people are or who they are. One guy I know claims they are very reliable but I don't trust him all that much either so take it for what it's worth.

Oh and if you wanna read that short description (not really spoilers but in it anyway):

My WB contact just watched the upcoming 3 minute 'Man of Steel' trailer. He is liking Henry Cavill more and more. Here's what he could share with me: "I saw the trailer projected in one of the big rooms with full 5.1 sound. The music was great, but may be specific to the trailer, I don’t know. It teases more of his childhood and his trying to hide from mankind, taking different jobs, etc. Also some General Zod shots. I’m sure you’ll see it soon." Stay tuned Folks!

And the line Supes supposedly says about the S:

"It's not an 'S'. Where I’m from it’s a symbol of hope." - from the upcoming 3-minute 'Man of Steel' trailer...

Im not sure.
The idea of it being a symbol of hope is straight out of Birthright but the recent character descriptions confirm it is the family crest. Could it be both? I do hope so. Would be a good for the S not to be a total Donner rip-off.

Going with what Simo says, I think all this lack of marketing so far is pointing to a trailer release followed by a big marketing push immediately after, creating a big wave rather then a longer, drawn out one. Releasing the trailer on the 75th anniversary of Action Comics would be a beautiful move.

Somethings's gonna go down on Supe's 75'th birthday party!... "SURPRISE!!!"

WB India have in the past (in case of TDKR) released several banners and posters that were not released by WB in US.

Caped Wonder .com is a very dedicated website to all things related to Christopher Reeve, and usually they are very reliable.

I'm just not sure what to make of anything anymore. I just want something official. I'm numb to all this "possible description/review" stuff.

Seriously though, if Warner Bros. did just that for The Hobbit's 75th anniversary then why not for Superman?

....annnnd awesomesauce. I think CapedWonder is supposed to be legit but I'm not entirely sure.

Regarding the 'S' line....
I like it it a lot. You could probably take it either way but Superman is probably just trying to put emphasis it's not just an S for Superman as the Planet has labeled him but a "symbol of hope" for the people while still acknowledging his heritage on a personal level. Like Kal-El on Earth, Jor-El and El line could of been a symbol of hope on Krypton that Jor-El explains to him in the Fortress, or how he puts it "What if a child dreamed of becoming something other than what society had intended? What if a child aspired to something greater? You will give the people an ideal to strive towards. They will race behind you, they will stumble, they will fall. But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will help them accomplish wonders." :)

But they celebrated the 75th anniversary of DC Comics. Three years ago.

Whatever it is, I hope to god he doesn't actually say that.
