We haven't seen anything to indicate WB is under promoting Superman yet, which is the studio arrogance bit (over confident in product, feel less need to push it)

I'd have been on board had they passed last night, but they didn't. We got a teaser a year in advance, which many big films to do not get. The December trailer was quite long (2:30m) by teaser trailer standards as well. We know they have Carls Jr/Hardees tv spots coming (they're quite popular, what with Kate Upton, Heidi Klum and co. doing commercials for them).

WB may be overconfident in the films reception, but atm, it doesn't look like it's going to cause them to under promote it as McWeeney suggests.
I was talking about Drew's words, not WB.

The "Kneel before Zod" campaign was just a call for more bombastic presence and not really for Zod himself, as most noted.

That being said, the argument that the first film in a series has always and should always be focused on the hero has been tossed around. I'm inclined to agree with this, but at the same time, (again) Superman is in a particular situation.
1. The audience damn well knows the basics of his origin unlike say Ironman during that pivotal period.
2. This is coming off of Returns.
3. Unlike the Batfilms of the past, the Superman films have always centered on superman himself.
4. Superman has more Villains?

Point number four I find most interesting. Lex is the only villain the modern GA really know superman has, a pajama wearing Zod is likely familiar to some others. Maybe the campaign should let the world know of these Villains.

I ponder how many Superman rogues the average GA can even name. Probably more than Thor I suppose. I also wonder how many people think we're about to get another real estate scheming bald man.

Another note of McWeeneys - they should DEF. focus on Zod in the marketing.

To anybody under the age of 50, Superman's never fought someone on the big screen before. I, personally, would market Superman Vs. Zod as if it were Arnold's Terminator vs. The T-1000. I would promote the hell out of the villain. I would go the STAR WARS route with TV spots, and give the 4 or 5 main characters their own TV spot, all about their story. Of course, awareness needs to be sky high for those to work.

Market the bejesus out of it starting in mid May, and by June 1st, unleash a Zod centered tv spot.

We're always "getting new stuff"
That TV spot for example.

I suppose the "Whining" will stop soon enough.

The folks who want this to be a major box office success (because we find that kind of stuff interesting) don't want another Batman Begins, where cheap promotion leaves millions of dollars on the table and a sequel in doubt (though we obviously got them in that case).

That will never end sadly. Nothing is ever enough.

Lets be fair, we already have a forum for sequels. This place brings it on itself. there is no basking, not even when the movie is released. :woot:

I'm sorry to be 'that guy', but honestly...who really cares how much the film makes? If the movie is good (as most of us believe it is), word of mouth will take care of the rest and this movie will get a sequel regardless. So really who cares how much it opens with? Shouldn't our main concern as fans just be if it's successful enough to get a sequel greenlit?

This isn't in quite the same hole as Batman Begins was, because back in 2005 not only was the Batman franchise still recovering from B&R but WB/DC didn't have any sort of good reputation to go off of. Now we have names like Nolan and Snyder being thrown about, coming right off the heels of TDK Trilogy- there's much more built in interest. Nolan's name alone carries a lot of weight these days.

I don't know, I just don't get the worrying.

Perhaps Tull dodging the question of Superman punching someone in the face is a subtle reference to him not punching anyone in the face because it is always dodged.

Bragging rights of course. Opinion on the movies' quality can be debated to stalemate till the ends of the Internet, Box Office cannot.

Keep in mind, a single IP address can view up to 25 times before Youtube stops counting.

Yes, but that applies to every fan base movie.

It is up to 53,000 views. By my count, it should do about the same as the Iron Man spots already out.

Speaking earlier to the Nolan brand - that is at its strongest ON LINE. I think all on-line signs for Man Of Steel are going to be encouraging, just an FYI.

Have you guys seen this (I lost my internet for three days so I'm not sure)?

http://www.hypable.com/2013/04/08/most-anticipated-summer-movie/

Fandango Fans’ Most Anticipated 2013 Summer Movies:
1. Iron Man 3
2. Star Trek Into Darkness
3. The Great Gatsby
4. Fast & Furious 6
5. The Hangover 3

Fandango Fans’ Favorite Summer Action Film of the Past 30 Years:
1. The Avengers (2012)
2. Pirates of the Caribbean (2003)
3. The Dark Knight Rises (2012)
4. Jurassic Park (1993)
5. The Bourne Identity (2002)

Gatsbys place on the list is enough to entirely discredit the entire things accuracy. As for the 2nd one...Bourne? TDKR would never be on it over TDK. Avengers would be a questionable choice, as well.

Past 30 years goes back to 1983, so...it would most likely be like...the older Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies, Back to the future, Jurassic park, Independence Day, Ghostbusters, T2...The Dark Knight would be the only new millennium film even worth discussion.

I had issues with the last Superman movie, and I think for me it was because I never got to see superman punch anyone in the face. I wanted to see Superman be Superman, and when I interviewed Zack before filming started I asked him point blank, “Will we see superman punch someone in the face?” He smiled and sort of wouldn’t answer because he said it would be a spoiler, but I’ve heard he punches someone in the face. Can you confirm this?

Tull: [Pauses] I can tell you that I think you’re going to enjoy the movie very, very much.

I never caught myself before, but the question to go along with the answer, I giggled like a school boy, lmao. BRING IT ON.
