And of course you are being ridiculous because I never singled you out....I was commenting on the posts made by many people in here.
And I can also say that I think some of the comments made by posters about said marketing is pretty darn ridiculously funny to me.

Thank you for your permission. It brings my heart much joy.

I don't LIVE in the past...I just enjoy visiting it and telling young whippersnappers about it....because as they say, those that do not know of the past are doomed to relive it.

A lot of the past sucked...a lot of the present sucks....and I dare say a lot of the future will suck. But I at least do not ignore it.

this post needed to end with

Yeah, TDKR was way more heavily marketed at this point in the game than MOS has been. No doubt about that.

Edit: Marketing of MOS until today:

(I had to exclude aaaaall the fanart)

Eh, a third of the TDKR stuff is fan art.

One should never expect MOS.
:funny: I'll be satasfied when something comes about but way, way past expecting anything.

I find the business side of filmmaking very interesting and odd. It was odd to me why Disney let a first time live action director helm a 250mil film that featured no stars and was based on a 100 year old novel that nobody remembered. And that comment doesn't even get into the lousy marketing campaign.

MOS's lackluster early marketing is another in a long list of odd things that studios have done and I talk about it so much because it greatly interests me.

Again maybe it won't matter but maybe it will. I still think you should give your big budget film the best push possible, especially when it's a reboot, but thats just me. You never know what is going to hit but it didn't take great intelect to know that John Carter was not going to make back that budget even if it had performed decently.

Apples and Oranges. Compare it to Star Trek, Superman Returns and Batman Begins.

I know, yeah, but still TDKR had way more stuff released at the time

He also missed a lot of stuff off the TDKR side. Quite a few stills. Not to mention trailer #3 :p

Well yeah. And I just realised that the pic my avatar comes from isn't in their either... seriously, it's not very well done...

Batman Begins had more too and that was in the same boat as this

It probably won't be. Unfortunately it is likely to be more of Zimmer's latest wall-of-sound experimentation. I'll be pleasantly surprised if Zimmer returns to his earlier style of leitmotif composition, something he hasn't done in a long time.

Damn. Superman is not something to be experimented on. :cmad: Do that on other films, then pick what works and bring it to Superman. I hope whatever he comes up with is lightning in a bottle if that's the case. I think the only reason why he was put on this movie is because "he's the guy that scored Chris Nolan's Batman!", and that's the only logic behind that decision. Almost anyone else would have been a knee jerk choice, what has Zimmer done that is anything "Superman" or "Star Wars" or that type of epic exciting movie? If you asked me, I'd say he avoids doing those types of films. I really hope he taylors himself to the ind of movie they're making rather than doing something weird and unfitting but "innovative" for MOS.

Batman '89 started marketing almost a year before the film's release... an unprecedented early start. After that everything was saturated with the marketing and with the Bat-Symbol. It was huge. Granted, not as huge as some marketing strategies today, but for its time it was really something new.

Man, what must it have been like to live back then. I bet it was awesome being a kid during all that. Someday before I day I want to see the 89 film in the theater somehow, like it was meant to be seen. :woot:

If WB doesn't pick up with the marketing, I don't see this movie making much at the box office.

As bad as I want some more trailers, pics, info, and just details because there haven't been too many I'm not too worried. This movie seems like it's on the right path with the right people in place. I know eventually they will ramp it up and everything will be okay. I'm just impatient because it's been so long. They Hobbit came out at the time TMOS was suppose to come out and now it's on DVD all before I've even seen my MOS. But again it will be okay because everything that has been leaked or come out has been to my liking. I have faith in this film! I'm so excited and I guess I'll just have to be more patient. DAMNIT! This movie will do very good at the Box office if it's good. It's Superman and people haven't forgotten and all it takes it some good reviews to get the ball rolling.

WB ONLY knows how to market Batman movies.

I don’t recall any “high-octane” marketing for B89 that was over-and-above normal levels. To be sure, there was a tremendous amount of buzz. But much of this was generated by word-of-mouth and media coverage - not because of marketing geniuses. .

Does this even deserve a response?

I'll give one anyway:

Just wondering....how heavily was the 1978 Superman movie promoted for anyone old enough to remember...?

Don't know. That was about 9 years and 3 months before I was even a sperm throwing bows and winning races.

Start watching this video around the 11:40 minute mark. Discussion of '89 marketing.

It was HUGE.

Heh, you couldn't go anywhere in 1989 without seeing some kind of Bat symbol. Its marketing was pretty big. :hehe:

Suggesting the marketing of Batman wasn't huge... Absolutely preposterous.

Either by age (too young to know), lack of knowledge or revisionist history.

The marketing will pick up. It will make a certain amount because Superman is a popular enough character.

WB thinks they have something special on their hands (hopefully they do)and obviously feel that their marketing plan, whatever it is, is going to yeld the best results at the box office. We will see come June 14th.

I was 4 (Batman came out before 09/24) when Batman came out. I read that the marketing was huge many years later. First marketing campaign I paid attention to was Demolition Man in 1993. Taco Bell for the win!

WB doesn't know how to market anything that doesn't have a cape, a cowl, and a Bat symbol.

Agreed. I can't wait for it.

You've missed rather a lot off the MOS side... the official pic of Jor-el isn't even in there.
On the other hand, the 4th picture is a fan manip based on a set photo taken by a fan (not a promotional pic).

Regardless, it's a fraction of what TDKR had. It's a fraction of what most other major movies have at this point. That is a fact.

What happened 30 years ago is completely irrelevant. I don't compare my decision to buy a new BMW (or Chevy) against what cars were like 30 years ago. I compare it to the current Mercedes (or Ford). To try to make some comparison against 10 or 20 or 30 years ago is just being stupid.

Its definitely a concern but if they really ramp it up from mid to late April it'l be fine.
