no. He was pushing hard for them, but "everyone else" said no because, plain and simple, they didn't want the trunks. Now he didn't mention specific names, but its not hard to figure out who was thinking it and/or who was the main one against it.

wb.

That's obvious. Superman would have underwear if not for Nolan. Snyder pretty much admitted this.

A) He could just as easily be talking about wb execs/the design team/his wife/anyone else involved in the making of this film. No where does he say 'Nolan told me not to keep the trunks'.

B) While he is saying other people said to leave them out, he still indicated that despite that, he carried on trying to find a design that would work. So if he could have come up with a design that he felt DID work and included the trunks, he would have presented that instead i'm sure. But he couldn't.

The big ideas and look of the film just seem to Nolan to think he didn't have a say in it. Kinda like Spielberg in his hey day as a producer.

I believe several of his ideas did make it on film. For instance, Snyder accredited Nolan and Goyer for the identity angle.

When should we expect a "Making of Man of Steel"?

Well, of course most of the ideas are Nolan's and Goyer's. Snyder didn't come to them with this project, he was placed, after a lot of other people turned it down.

Why are people assuming that Nolan told Snyder to leave off the trunks?!?! I've never seen or heard one single interview where Snyder said that...let's stop making up phoney interview quotes

On that note, I wonder how much Nolan and Goyer used from failed projects like Flyby to craft this story.

True, it could have just been the execs or, the second most likely in my opinion, DC itself that pushed for no trunks. Probably to line up with the current comics appearance.

btw......just curious.......did SR ever get an EW cover shot before it's release?

I think if they saw something cool, they probably took it to fill in the blanks of their general ideas. Made it so it would fit their general outlook on the film and character.

But he NEVER said that Nolan said he couldn't use the trunks...I'm sure the "everyone else" he was referring to is more than likely his wife, studio execs and possibly Nolan. Not because they don't like the trunks but as you later said, to possibly maintain a little bit of continuity with the current comics look

Ahahaahahhaa. Oh god. I wonder what the Hype discussion back then was like. Is there archives?

don't know if there are archives that go back that far, but we certainly did have some very, VERY lively discussions both before and after SR came out.

I remember, close to release, there was an early script "leak" that said the kid was really Superman's and he "chucked" a piano across the room.

Needless to say, that caused quite a stir here. A lot of us just couldn't believe that was true.

In fact, I remember there was one poster who was so sure that the kid was NOT Superman's that he made a bet that if he was proven wrong, he'd go on live webcam and eat his unopened copy of Action Comics #1.

What became of him and that bet..........no one knows.........

Ah, Showtime and I SEE SPIDEY, don't you remember those good ol days?? :woot:

I liked Superman Returns and the suit....but what we have now is much better!

My out of left field theory about Kal-El being special...
They might be going with the Byrne version of Krypton, with all babies carried in an artificial womb (birthing matrix as they called it) with Kal-El being the first natural conception, pregnancy, and birth in a few generations.
