All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 49

I mean, how easy must it be to be a Batman fan. I don't think I've ever met anyone who doesn't think Batman is cool, or at least okay.

If it makes you feel any better... I actually have a friend who HATES Batman and HATES the Nolan movies. She totally does. And I understand why she does (although I disagree with her) and we get along just fine. We actually joke with each other about it a lot. Good friendships can withstand differences of opinion.

She does, however, LOVE Superman, and is very excited about MOS.

Supes has had dark stories in the comics before. It is the character who is a beacon of light and hope and good, not the whole world / story / universe. So long as they get the characters right I don't care how dark the story feels.
Good point.

Me too, although I hope it doesn't have quite as many flaws as Smallville did over it's 10 years :funny:

It is genuinely worrying me that even if this movie is amazing with great action and a more in depth look at the worries and 'issues' the Man of Steel has to deal with... they'll still think he's 'lame'. Cause he stands for hope. And hope is just so lame. :whatever:

I'm a cynical person a lot of the time but Superman still speaks to me. He was different from the day he crashed on earth, he was isolated at times and longs for acceptance, and he's a man of two worlds. Yet, he is able to rise above all this and became a hero and find peace within himself. He's so kind and warm that I can't help but love the guy.

Always try to be the best person you can be. Unless you can be Batman. Always be Batman.

:woot:

Is it weird that I feel less confident about showing people the new trailer than I did the old one, even though I prefer it as a fan?

I'm just worried they will think that the Zod part, or the Supes/Lois dialogue are cheesy. I know I should just be proud of what I love, but I've seen that 'humouring me' look on so many of my friends faces before :(

You will give the people a movie to look forward to. They will humour you, they will stumble, they will fall... But in time, they will join you in the sun. In time, you will make them love Superman. ;)

Seems like a good time to be friends with her. :funny:

So...do you guys think we'll get another trailer?

Since he took a franchise that was dead in the water and seen by everyone who doesn't regularly wear pointed ears as the lamest thing in the world and not only turned it into a moneymaker but also managed to make it cool.
what JJ did with ST is what hollywood is doing to blockbusters. its also what fans hated about hollywood.

It's called an opinion. I'm not a fan of the scripts he works with but I think he is a good director.

Here's hoping Trek 2 is decent.
JJ is directing like Bay. he is not shaking the camera and knows how to cast good actors. but other then that its a 90% Bay movie IMO.:oldrazz:

i am so serious right now that its funny. :woot:

It's actually hard to be a Batman fan. It's hard to explain to the public that Batman isn't a rageaholic, deadly killer, or self-parody. We've had some great films, but Batman still feels like an actor in a suit, rather than a comic character come to life, unlike Reeve and possibly Cavill.

If MOS is as good as it looks, than it will be more faithful to the comics as well as being an epic movie in its own right. I'm still waiting for the movie equivalent to the B:TAS, Arkham games, and DTV's.

Plus, Superman fans are just more sane. Somehow, I think human Batmites cannot think beyond their favorite superhero, into the setting and context which helps make Batman so great. You don't see Superman fans belittling Batman the same way the other "fans" do.

That was a great trailer.

I wouldn't be surprised if WB's and Snyder release another version in May.

Love the new music by Zimmer.

Seems like this film maybe Snyders finest.

I know 12 people who have seen the new trailer and they all like it. They can't wait for the movie. Most stated that they can't wait to finally see a great Superman movie and some made comments like "especially after the last crappy one".

Lol

Any idea when the public opinion completely turned against "Superman Returns"? It was received fairly well upon release (not overwhelming support, but people who saw it were mainly "Eh.. it was pretty okay"). But now it seems like everyone hates it, and not just in the Internet fandom, but in the general public as well - I know a few people who only know Superman from the movies and are not comic fans, but even they share that opinion.

I disagree with you whole heartedly. I can actually make out Abrams action scenes for one. He isn't great or the best ever but I do think that he is good and knows how to handle actors...again unlike Bay.

Also JJ's movies don't have 19 hour sunsets occurring simultaneously everywhere in the world.

^ Because the ballpark has changed. Now we have films like TDK, Iron Man, Avengers, etc. SR was dated as soon as was released, but in the wake of films both more original and better adapted, SR seems like a HUGELY missed opportunity.

Or humping robots. If Bay was directing Star Wars R2 D2 would be humping Leia's leg in his first scene.

wholeheartedly agree with you there- the action scenes in ST09 were beautiful and easy to discern who was who and where they were within the respective shots... Bay was all over the place. Transformers gave me a small headache when it came to the action shots, but i also think it slightly has to do with the design of the Transformers themselves (the look was difficult to differentiate the two, but thats for another thread)

i liked both films, as they were good films (I liked ST09 more though), however action scene wise, Abrams did a much better job in directing action and making it a solid and clear picture, instead of making jumbled scenes where you couldnt tell which thing was which.

Man I'm gonna have to disagree aggressively on this one.

Should we expect a tv spot tonight? With the NBA Playoffs?

I love Jor-El's line "Goodbye my son. Our hopes and dreams travel with you" and just the way that Crowe delivers it :D
