All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - Part 5

Of course they're saying that.

Yeah. But you know, some studios go back on their word. Remember that little incident where the founder of Netflix was going to halve its DVD rental and video streaming service into two separate companies? That didn't happen.

Yeah. I wouldn't be surprised if Peter Jackson says, "We hit a snag in post-production and we want to make The Hobbit as good as we possibly can", so that would give WB an incentive to push it back.

That said, I'm always a little wary about pushing a release date up (especially so dramatically). I mean, it's not like the finished product was gonna sit on a shelf for those 6 months - the filmmakers were counting on having that time to complete their film. Since this movie started filming SO damn early with a December date originally in mind, I won't be too worried about it (if it happens), but I'd certainly hate to see this to turn into a rush job.

How are they rushing it? Showtime said that they're editing scenes as they shoot and sending them to the visual effects companies to begin work. It's very efficient and WB won't have to pay through the nose to finish it. From the way production is going, it seems like MOS will be completed by the end of next year at any rate.

Besides, WB has done the "complete a blockbuster and sit on it" thing with Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. It was completed before its original November 21, 2008 date for the push back to July 15, 2009. Paramount did the same thing with the Star Trek reboot, and both films did very well.

So, if The Hobbit won't be the film pushed back, then perhaps the WB movie being pushed back is The Great Gatsby. It won't require the extensive post-production schedules like MOS or The Hobbit, but WB can swap that with MOS if they want.

But if their competition has to be pushed back (World War Z, Les Miserables), WB can sked MOS in those dates. Nothing wrong with that.

What a buzzkill. :(

Showtime, do you think there's any chance of MoS being moved forward, or do you think it's pretty set in stone?

Yes. I think there is a chance several of these WB tentpoles move around.

I'm looking forward to this movie more than I ever have any other DC property....fingers crossed it'll be moved forward!

From MOS FB Page, I think they contacted someone from WB...what a downer:

"Contrary to inaccurate reports - The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is being released on December 14, 2012" - Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures.

I'd rather MOS keep the summer date just so they'd have as much time has they need for VFX and editing.

Agreed. We don't need another weird mess like what happened with Green Lantern.

I would love to see them push the MOS back to July 2013 instead of June, especially since it seems to be wide open now that Thor 2 is getting pushed way back.

Do you think if they move MOS, will it be forward to December or actually back to July?

Contemplating all avenues for movement but were not excited to see that out there so soon.

That's not that unusual for a blockbuster. Doesn't mean that shaving off 6 months of their production schedule wouldn't be rushing them. However...

This is true, which again is why I said I wouldn't be too worried about it, since it was originally scheduled for that December date.

Anyway, if the move isn't happening, I didn't even get a chance to get my hopes up at the prospect before it disappeared, so...oh well. If it does, yay.

Interesting, but what date in December would MOS be released? The date Hobbit was going to premiere Dec 14th or later around Xmas. They need to go for XMas Day on a Tuesday or Dec 21st, Friday, the weekend before XMas.

I would prefer the July release date of 2013 overall though. In the end, whatever release date that would give post production enough time to make things look spectacular, and whatever would position MOS to make more money at the BO, is what I want for this film.
i think post production on MOS will end somewhere around 2012.

of course if it was true WB would not admit it today. they like to have control on the news.

UPDATE: Dan Fellman, President, Domestic Distribution, Warner Bros. Pictures has also given a definitive statement on the matter as well:
“Contrary to inaccurate reports – The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is being released on December 14, 2012.

Aaaa but he doesn't mention MOS release date. Winning! :awesome:

I just remembered one of the other reasons I was jazzed about the Dec release date - it'd mean it comes out before the world is supposedly going to end.

The idea that we might all be obliterated without having ever got to see it is just too terrible for words!

That's what she said. :oldrazz: :rimshot:

:lmao:

The world can end all it wants, but nothing is going to stop me from watching this movie. :o

in summer 2013 MOS will be just another comicbook summer movie. in winter 2012 it has the advantage to stand out.

the movie will be finished at the end of 2012.

Sooner than that at the rate they're going.

Seems like the WB really likes how MOS is shaping up. Do you think they'll be finished in October and schedule a November 2012 date?

If that's true, then they can move the Sandra Bullock Gravity out of the November 21, 2012 date and put MOS there. Gravity could take MOS' date of June 2013 or take Gatsby's Christmas Day release.

I really don't see Superman working in June or the end of December. I think the first weekend of December could work, or maybe a July release date. Unfortunately I don't see it moving forward.

To be honest, it's made my day to think that this time next year I could be watching (or already have seen) MOS. 2013 seemed a long time away!

But, this time next year 2013 will seem very close, look at it that way. :awesome:
