so many great, new pictures of Superman in heroic, bad ass poses.

therefore, I ask, where ARE THE NEW POSTERS??!! :cmad:

and, please, please don't use that Superman in cuffs picture as the DVD/Blu-Ray cover............

it's time to retire that picture. it did its job; it got people talking. now let it go.

now it's time to bring out the heroic/iconic posters.

Did anyone read the cringeworthy article on Cracked.com? I love that site, but the article they put up today seems highly presumptuous based on the trailer, not even the trailer - just what they want to believe from the trailer.

Luckily the comments section seems to be more level headed, with plenty of people backing the movie up against the site.

Add onto that

So, provided that the movie has the usual 10 p.m. and midnight shows, that the exclusive 7 p.m. show will propel more walk-ins for the later shows?

Why not just release the film at 7 p.m. on June 13th?

Walmart announced today that it has partnered with Warner Bros. to give its customers exclusive access to see Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures’ Man of Steel in theaters nationwide before the film’s official release.

Tickets for the exclusive screening will go on sale in more than 3,700 Walmart stores starting at 8 a.m. on May 18. Customers will be able to purchase up to four tickets per visit and will have the option to choose between 2D or 3D showings, where applicable. The advance screenings will take place in selected local theaters nationwide at 7 p.m. on June 13.

Specific details of the promotion read as follows:

• Each ticket bought at Walmart will feature a code on the back that allows customers to pre-order their own Blu-ray Combo Pack or HD Digital Download of Man of Steel, which will contain exclusive film content.

• Fans can bring Superman to life with the official "Man of Steel Experience” augmented reality app. The app allows customers to take photos with the superhero, as well as unlock special photo frames by pointing their phone at Man of Steel signage in their local Walmart.

• Customers will receive a free original Digital Comic Book written by Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer with every ticket.

• Beginning April 28, a variety of Man of Steel merchandise such as t-shirts, electronics, posters and more from top brands will be available at Walmart stores and at Walmart.com.

Walmart invites customers to join the conversation and show their excitement for the first screening of “Man of Steel” on Facebook and on Twitter with the hashtag #SeeSteelFirst.

The highly-anticipated action adventure stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Russell Crowe, Michael Kelly, Harry Lennix and Richard Schiff.

In the film, a young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.

Man of Steel will 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters nationwide on June 14.

I love that cape, but I hate it now for covering up that super-ass. :fhm:

Is the Wal-Mart thing just for the US or does the promotion extend to Canada as well? (Please let it be the latter)

True, new posters are long overdue!

I'm sorry for asking dumb questions so the advanced screenings are not the same as midnight showings or is wb just doing the advanced screenings?

how do i know my wal-mart is doing it
Call them ... they'll know if the promotion starts in May.

Only a select few stores won't (due to not having a proper theater in the area).

This could be a HUGE deal. I live in a town of 25,000 and we get over 5,000 people a day who enter the store in town from around the area. That is a goldmine for untapped promotional opportunities, especially if you consider the amount of people in larger cities. I'm shocked no film on this scale has ever considered this before. It's not even about the million available tickets ... it's the awareness for the average joe in America.

I'm definitely going to get a 3D ticket if possible. :) ... although those tickets look pretty damn awesome, I'd hate to use it. :)

Saw the trailer today when I saw Iron Man 3. The film looks really impressive on the big screen. It genuinely looks like it's going to be something special. Funnily enough there was a lot of talk with people saying 'Oh it's Superman' during it whilst they were very quiet during the other trailers. Make of that what you will.

oh it's superman :whatever:

like that right

More like surprise and dare I say excitement.

From the Variety article, it says that 1 million tickets are being offered for sale at Walmart.

This means a potential 8 million - 10 million dollars of box office from just the 7pm shows. Hopefully the Walmart tickets sell out quick, I will definitely be in line to get mine. :woot:

This promotion could be a huge box office bump for the film ... because if it's as great as WB wants us to believe, early viewers getting out Thursday night could spur word of mouth on twitter helping Friday, Saturday & Sunday ... sort of like Avengers.

BTW, do you post on Boxoffice.com forum, I ask because I lurk there, and your response is very similar to one just posted. :)

Oh, and about the 2 hr 10 minute run time, I don't have a problem ... I'd probably prefer another 15 to 20 minutes, but if it would make the film drag, I guess it's for the best. Whatever makes the film as good as possible.

I lurk there as well, saw this response and thought it made sense to post it here since it mirrors what I was thinking.

haha ... yeah, I thought the same thing. I just think this is a smart idea for the franchise. What do they have to lose ... probably nothing.

I might buy two just to have one to keep in case they take the ticket from us

Completely agree. Really smart timing with the marketing as well. May 18th will mean that the IM3 marketing push will have died completely and the STID marketing push will be concluding. This Walmart promotion can serve 2 purposes:

First would be to get more awareness about the movie in the general audience. From Business Insider: Each week nearly one-third of the U.S. population visits Walmart's U.S. stores. Read more: http://www.businessinsider.com/16-walmart-facts?op=1#ixzz2RMHIRmCR

That is a huge huge number of people who can become aware of the movie, and if they play the trailer in the stores, that is a large number of people who will see the trailer, hopefully think it is cool and buy the ticket.

Second, it will help the word of mouth if the movie is really good - people will go on twitter, FB and in person tell their friends to watch "Man of Steel".

Hoping this marketing approach works in spades.

I won't ... but I'd consider it because they look so cool ... but I'd rather just spend the money to see it again over the weekend.

BTW, how I wish I had an IMAX near me. :(

Sorry for 2x posting if it's not wanted ... I'm trying to figure out the board posting functions.

If it works as well as WB is hoping ... 1 million tickets ... plus, advertising ... merchandising ... then every big film is going to have it's studio trying to get in line to do the same.

Again, I'm just shocked that this has never been done. When you think of it now, it seems almost too perfect an opportunity.

Now that I think about it, since has the code on the back I doubt the will take it...more than likely scan it or the bottom half rips off...

I want those movie passes, I hope they sell them at one of the Wal-Marts in Toronto :p
