:hehe:

just for reference, I looked up the runtimes for other films:

Superman Returns - 154 mins ( 2h 34m )
Batman Begins - 141 mins ( 2h 21m )
The Dark Knight - 153 mins ( 2h 33m )
The Dark Knight Rises - 165 mins ( 2h 45m )
Iron Man - 126 mins ( 2h 6m )
Iron Man 2 - 125 mins ( 2h 5m )
Captain America - 124 mins ( 2h 4m )
Thor - 114 mins ( 1h 54m )
Amazing Spider-man - 136 mins ( 2h 16m )

so, at 130 mins ( 2h 10m ), MOS is inline with the Iron Man, Capt. America, and TASM films.

it's a bit longer than Thor. and shorter than the Nolan Bat films.

I'd say that's a pretty good runtime. I felt TDK and TDKR were a bit too long anyways.

SR will be longer than MOS, but I felt SR was pretty lacking in terms of quality content........

I'm fine with the run time. Like others have said, it's all about the pacing of the film. Even though I'm fine with it, I would have liked for it to have been a little longer, but it's fine. Like everyone else on the Superman boards, I am a little biased, and the more time our Superman is on screen, the better!

i agree with everyone that after SUperman walks outside the ship on the snow until the last fight he will be wearing the suit. after that as Clark ridding the bike to the daily planet.

i like this as the origin movie.

I can't believe what I am reading at times. Like an attempt to justify.

Anyways, MoS falls in line with a lot of "smaller" superhero films. Films meant to be on the smaller side in terms of scale and story. Unlike the sprawling Nolan films.

This is suppose to be a "big" film then Nolan's Batman.

yeah, I would have liked it to be a bit longer.

but, yeah, pacing of the film and quality of the content are more important.

Wow the marketing REALLY picked up... I just remember 3 weeks ago when this was such a bored site and almost everyone here was complaining everyday :p

How are the Nolan films bigger in scale and story than Thor or Iron Man or Captain America?

I think you're confusing "longer" and "more complex" with "scale".

I've heard on more than one occasion casual fans complain about the length of the Nolan movies. They do begin to drag a bit.

Some people have problem understanding this concept.

As if no film has ever been hurt by a shorter runtime.

If they came out and said this movie was 90mins, some would probably think everything was perfectly fine.:woot:

I have seen films that are too long, not long enough and just right. I have seen films which material suited a 90min film, bloated out to run 2+ hours. I have also seen films cut off at the knees because of a need to make sure we get enough showings.

My fear here is that we know we are getting a lot of Krypton and we will be getting little Clark, teen Clark, college Clark and adult Clark all pre-suit. That is a lot of ground to cover without a rather short invasion by Zod and company.

Runtime doesn't necessarily translate to scale. Star Wars and Star Trek have both given examples of this. Pacing is everything.

I've personally never been bothered by long films so long as they are good (LOTR extended edition? bring it on!) but I'm not worried if they are only 2 hours, so long as the pacing and story is right.

A few things to consider:

1-Longer isn't better. Toy Story is an excellent movie but it is just barely over an hour (81 minutes with credits) and it is a solid movie. Meanwhile, Michael Bay pops out a Transformers movie that is 150 minutes long and are absolute garbage.

2-Shorter movies mean more showings. More showings means more money (if a movie shows five times a day but sells out, it can't make any more money that day. But if a movie shows seven times, but doesn't sell out, it might still make more money than a five per day film).

3-The film story may not be linear. The shot of bearded Clark looking at the bus in the second trailer makes me think him saving the bus will be a flash back. I wouldn't be surprised if the film opens with Jor-el sending him to Earth, then cutting right to adult Clark (ala Birthright), with the occasional flashback to help fill in. This can help pacing and get us to Superman faster, since they only need to show us little bits.

My friend who is a manager at Wal-Mart just told me that they are doing a HUGE promotion for Man of Steel....should be good!!!

People are over thinking the length of the film without having seeing it.

A number of sources are saying 148 minutes. You heard different?

The mayor cameo was already revealed here a while ago, if you bothered to read the scans. It's a cool article, you can tell how exciting it must have been for the Plano people to have such a huge movie in their town. If I were WB, I'd hold a special screening there. Hint, hint.

As for the runtime, I don't usually think about that, but seeing people worry about 18 minutes less makes me worry a little bit too. Hopefully the childhood remains intact. Stuff like Clark sneezing (rumor), the 8-year-old Clark, etc, is stuff I really want to see. Please no Dr Ratha debacles with MOS.

there are a lot characters in this movie. Lara and Martha will not get a lot of screentime. development? meh they are mothers. lets focus on the fathers. hihihihi :woot:Kal-el on krypton, smallville and then as superman.

a lot characters plus an origin movie could be a disaster with a short time. but i am optimistic that this will be fast paced and scenes will jump very fast.
