All Things Superman: An Open Discussion - - Part 67

I remember watching blade 2, and being in utter bliss half way through the ninja fight(oh nolan) anyways, everything was going perfect till the very end, when they turned into cgi doubles. To this day I believe that fight could have ended at the half way mark and still been a bigger crowd pleaser had the cgi and direction of of said technique not fallen so gotdam short. This same exact thing happened in both matrix sequels(you all know the parts).

A man with no mask with a cape is the most difficult doubling to do. We can watch a double of Spidey swing around for 10 straight minutes and not have a negative word to say, same with Ironman, hell boy to some extent, but doubling Superman and Neo(and Blade) needs some serious money and some serious research.

and that's the cue to bring up "the" clip.

MPC and Snyder did some pretty solid work there, it really comes down to the direction.
For the love of god, keep the camera off of their faces.

I think JJ and Bay are the best at solving VFX in uber practical ways. Granted they have ILM on board.
Their approaches to sky diving are utterly respectable, where most directors would just...cheat.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason i liked the way the rescue was shot so much. It was quick, easy, and effective. They also didn't show a waxy fake face.

Point taken, but even transformers is but a third of Avatar... getting to 3 Billion is something not to be taken lightly... There's got to be magic there to create such long legs... I can tell you I simply loved the movie... all of it.. both visually, and characters / love angle, etc...

Titanic another example.. you can't be a mediocre director and create 2 of the all time best selling movies (and not only all time best selling, but way, way ahead of the rest).
I never said Cameron was mediocre. He made one of the few films I consider perfect with T2. The man made Aliens. I just wish that director stilled existed.

A good way for my haters to keep me off of this thread is to nit pick CGI. Damn, I revealed my secret!

...Half gainer with a twist...

Nevermind, found it.

You should be hurt by the horrible CGI. They are making your beautiful man look like rubber. :csad:

Absolutely loved those two films too.. in fact, all of his films pretty much, The Abyss as well..

Anyways, what people like in Movies / TV shows are pretty subjective... All i can say, Cameron is my all time best director, bar none...

And you are entitled to that. Just as the rest of us are allowed to say Avatar is mediocre but pretty.

It would be nice if someone put all the scenes from the trailers and tv spots in order. Can any of u guys do that?

I doubt that is even possible at this point. Too many quick cuts and scenes that we don't know where they appear.

I haven't seen any horrible CGI yet, I've seen CGI obviously but it looks pretty good to me so far. Not perfect of course but then CGI never is. I'm not dismissing you guys opinion either, everyone has a right to their opinions. I just don't agree.

I have never seen that. Thanks for it. Though I could probably live without hearing Snyder say "baby "so many times.

And yeah, avoid the face when possible. Though, kinda of hard when you have Supes flying face first into the camera. :D

No problem,
I think they have been pretty good with keep his doubles face off camera. Though I can't tell if that's the hide and seek marketing or if Zack has just been smart about where to use it.

That one shot from the second trailer of him flying through space was very smart about the lighting. I think with the sheer amount of Green Screen Zacks gonna use here, we should get plenty of wire work. As opposed to when he's out on set and that stuff needs portable rigs and get's dangerous.

I actually thought her being knocked back was crazy good wire work. He really "blended" those methods well.

A big technical directors secret weapon is having experience. I'm glad Zack seemingly has plenty at this point. It should yield good choices for MoS' sfx approach.

The only CGI shot that bugs me a little is the one of Zod with glowing eyes. Everything else looks fine in my opinion.

As someone who dislikes Avatar, they got pretty close. :cwink:

Honestly, I think there are tiers. CGI can and has looked incredible at times. Too the point you can't tell the different in the flow of a film. Tron came pretty close to this with actual humans.

Of course there hasn't been anything actually horrible here. Just not a fan of too much obvious CGI.

In fluid motion; I believe it will be difficult to spot questionable CGI work especially in a big screen theater. Besides Sucker Punch; it seems movie-goers have enjoyed Snyder's VFX work, so I won't let these concerns get in the way of me loving this film's visuals.

I bet that would be a good place for Lex Luthor to come in. Thus gaining the trust of Metropolis and then starts his political career. :woot:
The Great Rebuild of Metropolis. Could be a reference at the end of the film.

I think Avatar looks like a cartoon really. It's good CGI but perfect? Hardly. As for Tron I thought that CGI Bridges looked awful and it was a deeply distracting effect to me. Or it would have been if the movie wasn't so bad.

What the **** is everyone complaining about now?

I come here and people are freaking out over little insignificant nonsense.
