I love Bale, and I loved Nolan's Batman films. But that boat has sailed. It's done, dusted.

Bringing his Batman into the start of a new Superman franchise and a new shared universe is not really going to work, compromises are going to have to be made and that's what we should really be trying to avoid. Not to mention the fact that Bale is touching 40 and has already played the character in 3 big films - is he really going to commit to more Batman films, a Justice League film, and anything else they choose to put the character in? I don't get the sense that he's absolutely in love with playing Batman (like Jackman is with Wolverine, for example) enough to do it for another decade. And that's before you even get into the technicalities and plot holes of why Batman would disappear for 8 yrs, come back, retire and then come back yet again to team up with Superman. It would be a kick in the teeth to the whole arc and conclusion of the character's path throughout Nolan's trilogy.

Better that they go with a new version of Batman specifically written for this world which Snyder has crafted in MOS, and a new actor to play him. Bale did a great job but we really need to let go now and move on.

It would appear that Snyder has crafted his world in which it could fit within the established world of Nolan's TDKT. How has that boat sailed, time to move on? It's been less than a one year since TDKR has opened, you do realize. Boat has not sailed, boat is being rigged with explosives!
Obviously if Snyder wants to bring Bale in, the story isn't finished. Christian Bale even said he would return, so if the lead actor isn't convinced TDKR is the end to his character than why should we all? I make these points in the JL board sorry to bleed it over.

I don't think anyone at WB/DC wants to get rid of Bale any time soon. Nolan did a good job at convincing us though. Snyder is the guy who said he wants to film The Dark Knight Returns in 20 years with Bale. And now he's given the keys to the JL/DC universe and you guys think he wouldn't use him? Goyer as well, the guy who spent years writing this character's journey...who said he can't picture anyone but Bale right now. It would seem Bale is our Batman for this generation and well he should be. There is no need to reboot anything when we have Wonder Woman, Flash, and the whole gang to focus time/money on.

Rumor has it Michael C. Hall has been cast as Lex Luthor.

Few articles around talking about.

I won't believe anything until there's an official press release from WB (especially this early on).

That said, Hall as Luthor would be absolute dream casting for me.

Hey has the promo where Clark talks about how 'you're scared because you can't control me" been released in decent quality ... because at hitfix.com on the right hand of the screen is a tv spot I've never seen in good quality.

The site plays several different ones with each time you refresh, so might have to do so a couple times.

Apparently there was/is a media screening in Toronto.
the props are in the CN tower and will be on display until June 7th

I'm not entirely for Bale Batman with Superman but I still think my head would friggin explode if that was anyway referred to or if it was put on screen in MoS.

I mean just imagine if the final or tag-on scene was Michael C Hall as Luthor having Bale's Bruce as a prisoner for some whatever reason. The word of mouth on that scene alone would do the movie wonders.

Chances of happening - 0.0000000004%

Like I said as I'm sat here typing it I'm sorta against it but I know if I was in a IMAX theatre and something like that happened I would say it was all kinds of awesome.

And that face Zack pulled to me it says "How many ******* times am I gonna be asked that goddamn question of the the next 3 weeks?" :D

TDKR could have opened a week ago and my response would be the same. Timing isn't the issue. Story is is the issue. The whole story arc for Nolan's Batman finished in TDKR; he finally found some kind of peace with himself and let go of this 'monster' he created, whilst simultaneously saving Gotham. To have him come back and take on his alter-ego again would totally undermine that whole trilogy. That is the boat which has sailed.

Also, Snyder's world may be aesthetically similar but on a plot level, they're totally different. The Batman films never, ever referenced aliens or superpowers of any kind; it was always humans (albeit extreme versions of villains and heroes) behind everything. There was human reasoning behind every action, every tool Batman used, and so on. In my opinion, that world can't suddenly meld with one where aliens are on Earth and (thinking ahead) other superpowered or magical heroes/villains such as those you'd encounter in a Justice League film.

No-one wants rid of Bale because he's a fantastic actor and a fantastic Batman. Deep down, the film fan in me wants him to keep playing the character forever so we can keep enjoying the movies. But I have to acknowledge that Nolan's arc is over, and I think it would do a disservice to his story to put Bale back in the suit. And since Nolan obviously has some considerable sway with WB (consider his and his brother's roles in MOS, never mind the Batman films) I can't imagine he would be too keen on it either. He was very clear in all interviews around the TDKR release that his trilogy was pretty much at an end.

Daily Planet Clark clothes?

You are right! 2 unreleased TV spots are playing there! I had to disable the ad block and refresh a few times to get them but now I see it! Darn it WB why y u no upload to your channel! :cmad: Will see if I can somehow snatch them from hitfix or not.

You can watch them in HD by clicking the HD button ... they look great. I love the one with Superman talking to the military. :)

@elgaz - I'm not a fan of bringing back the old Nolan universe, but should they go this route, I think that it can still work.

You mention that Bale's getting old. No problem. He would serve as a more advisory role and only get into small strategic scraps. And after a few Justice League films, he can even retire from that and let someone else take the mantle, like Nightwing or the other younger 'Batman', John Blake (:p)

Also, I think it can also work in a story-related way, while also serving as an evolution to his character. He was the saviour of Gotham. Superman will convince him to advise the Justice League and after a few arguments, he'll decide to serve as an advisor, staying mostly in the shadows. Also, Bale Batman would evolve as a character -simply because he retired as a symbol and saviour for Gotham. Now, his advice and involvement in the Justice League may benefit and ultimately save the world, not just Gotham. So, he'd be a silent saviour of the world whereas before he was the saviour of Gotham - that'd be the character evolution. His arc can still continue.

So, I think that it can technically still work and be beneficial sincee Bale Batman is well-established amongst the general audience. But, like you said, the reboot Batman is best for the role. :)

^ Hmm. Maybe ZS should do the Batman reboot? He's good at building a dark atmosphere, and will have "reboot experience" with MOS.

Gary Oldman was 'blown away' by TDKR. We all used the rational "gary frickin Oldman wouldn't bs around" too.

The thing is, from my point of view, Oldman didn't bs around. :oldrazz:

It has nothing to do with when TDKR came out and everything to do with what happened IN those movies. You have to completely undermine that trilogy and throw out its thematic arc to have that version of Bruce Wayne return to Batman.

I absolutely love TDKT, but it ended. It did what it did in a great way. Time for something new now.

Yeah. Besides. Batman's bigger than Bale. This is true of all superheroes and actors. But to me, the next level of storytelling and adaptation, is an Arkham equivalent in Batman movies. If they don't do that, WB would have REALLY missed the boat.

Anyone have a link to the one with Supes talking to the military? I haven't seen that one!

I think there's a way you can continue Bale's character without it compromising the arc of TDKT. I thought having the Justice League mirror the League of Shadows is an idea I like. Bruce was supposed to lead the LOS, maybe he takes that idea and decides to form the League of Justice. His first lines to Ras were that he wants to find the means to fight injustice. Then he joins a league to do just that, only it turned out to not be what he expected. Bruce giving up on justice was an "out of character" moment at the end of TDKR for a lot of people and I for one cannot believe that Bruce would allow a rookie cop take over as Batman and protect his city without any kind of training.

Maybe Luthor buys out Wayne Enterprises including the science division, maybe he kills Fox. Maybe he kills Blake. Maybe Superman scouts the Earth for Bruce echoing Ras' line "the world is too small for Bruce Wayne to disappear" also echoing "the world is too big mom" "make it smaller" who knows. I dunno I'm not the writing team. I just feel like TDKR wasn't the END if it doesn't want to be. It can be considered the end of the trilogy, the first "phase" of the DCU and a full arc for Bruce and Gotham but that doesn't mean it's the only arc for Bruce.

And the source of that rumor can be traced back to...Wikipedia. So I'm gonna go with BS for right now. Until a credible source independently confirms it, there is no reason to beleive that this has any degree of truth.

I do generally agree with this. But even though Bruce did manage to find some peace I always felt that if the situation was big enough that Bruce would at least return to maybe not be Batman, but at least lend a helping hand. I mean imagine if in that world The Joker escaped and said he planted bombs all over Gotham. Then Bruce saw it on the news. I don't believe for one second that the Bruce in BB, TDK and TDKR would then just go "meh I left it all to that cop".

IF MoS is set in the world of TDKT and a dire situation went from Metropolis over to Gotham I would believe that Bruce would return as I said maybe not strictly as Batman but would help in some form. I would find it less believable that the guy who devoted 10 years to saving that city, even though he found peace, would turn away from it.
