Except if they weren't explain in the movie people would be coming out of the cinema (GA & on here) arguing about well HOW CAN SUPERMAN FLY? IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE. HOW CAN HE SWING THAT TRAIN ABOUT? This film is going to change the way super powered comic book movies are made. I know somebody who has seen the film and he says it is easily top 3 ever made along with The Dark Knight at the top and The Avengers.

thats just silly...everyone knows who Superman is and what his main power is...no one is gonna come out wondering how Superman can fly.

For a guy with the username Kal El, you would think you'd be interested in the significance of your name and what powers you are capable of on Earth :cwink:

ehhh...I'd just rather some things be a mystery I guess

He's an alien. He can do things normal humans can not do...

1. I might have to go back and check the panel again, but I think in Kara's dream or in that moment, she was being exposed to the rays from the Yellow Sun in the solar system for the first time, hence why she saw herself flying in her dream. I mean, it's just kind of hard to believe that even if it's something that they didn't know that they could do with their suit at the time, that with all of the advance technology that they have and the time difference between Kara's era and Jor-el's (I can't believe that I actually wrote that.lol) that they wouldn't be able to figure it out at some point in between

2. I'll say this much; I think Nolan is a great filmmaker, but certainly not perfect. I'm glad that he isn't the one directing MOS because his style wouldn't mesh well with what was/is needed to bring Superman back onto the big screen. And while I do think he's a capable storyteller, as we've seen with his past films, they all have their own set of issues if people look closely enough at them. If anything, I'd argue that the reason why some are just crazy about Nolan when it comes to his "involvement" with Superman is that they're hoping that Superman's franchise will garner the same level of success that his batman franchise did.

3. I can agree with that view and understand it for that matter. Honestly, as long as the directors don't go into a film with the mindset that Joel did for B&R, where he'd tell everyone before rolling a camera that they were doing a comic book film or a TV Toy Commercial (whichever of the two), thus putting that mindset into everyone that prevents them from performing at great level in a sense, then I'm good.

I'm pretty sure they were still on Krypton when her boyfriend was hanging on to the ledge...he fell so she jumped after him, of course it's just a dream but I think it was foreshadowing that the suit give them the ability to fly.

I have really enjoy Nolan's Batman films for what they were and Inception and many of his past films and I agree, his style is not what Superman needs. Superman is pure fantastical. But I do agree that the film needs to look like Superman landed in America, not some generic place and Snyder said that they strived to make it look like he landed in America and I love that.

And don't get me started on B&R...ugh. All that was was a damn toy commerical

Never would have thought that Nolan would be such a sensitive issue for people whenever he's mentioned in any form on this thread.lol

Nolan tho.....

Gotta love that realism.

I wouldn't mind some kind of scientific theory/explanation for how his powers work.

I figure that's why a character like Dr. Hamilton is in.

I don't know about that, I mean if she was dreaming while she was being exposed to the Yellow sun then maybe that's why she saw herself doing that, foreshadowing instead of what kryptonians could do under the yellow sun.

As long as it's not like the movie New Years Eve, in which every scene is filled with product placement to the point that you get taken out of the movie, I have no problem with it.

Transformers was also like that at times.

Plus Nolan is only a producer, and we act like he's directing this.
Exactly. Once Zack agreed to direct the movie he also became involved in its pre-production. It seems silly to think that Zack just sat on his ass while everyone else did everything behind the scenes to get things ready for him to direct. I dont think directors work that way. Theyre supposed to be directly involved in all the planning that goes on before they even start directing. So to think that Goyer and Nolan and everyone else except Zack were involved in MOS's pre-production seems ludicrous to me.

Yeah, that'd actually be fun. "An alien eye may not need lubrication. As we can see, his retina retracts so that the optical rays of focused photochemical energy does not hurt him."

:yay:

if the suit gave Kryptonians the ability to fly back on Krypton, they'd all be flying and wouldn't need those giant dragon fly creatures to get around.

plus, you think a foremost scientist like Jor-El wouldn't have unlocked the suit's ability to fly?

also, that was a dream sequence in the Kara comic. and she had already been in the Sol system for some time.

and, the dream itself was an anomaly. earlier, one of the other scouts remarked how the liquid stuff in the sleeping pod prevents you from dreaming.

so, the very fact that Kara was dreaming is "special." and that's most likely due to her exposure to the yellow sun.

Does anyone have quotes from the featurette? I would really appreciate it.

geeez, I know how much you love that movie...so sorry!

We got that in S:TM, and to an extent SR. I was intrigued with that snippet in one the set reports talking about the physics of it all. That is something we haven't seen before in a Superman movie.

I know, but I think it should be universal across all Superman films, he does these amazing things because he is an alien from another planet

Enough talk, do it. Sites like these are filled with amateurs thinking they know better than professionals.

I plan to...working on it

thats just silly...everyone knows who Superman is and what his main power is...no one is gonna come out wondering how Superman can fly.

agreed....nobody is gonna ask that

I'm not sure either, but it does make a person think

I'd like to think that for all of the specific weakness that Snyder, Goyer, and Nolan have as storytellers and filmmakers, that they were able to cover for each other with their individual talents and specialties.

Perhaps the suit/cape is/are what wings and engines are to jets/planes?

Who knows.

I really hope the suit doesn't make him fly...i do not care for that idea

yeah. I can imagine Dr. Hamilton analyzing the fights and coming up with theories for the military as to the nature of the Kryptonians' powers.

like in the Ang Lee Hulk movie, during the final battle between Hulk and Absorbing Dad, Betty was analyzing the fight and remarked "They're absorbing all the ambient energy" or something.

This. Goyer-For comic stuff-Nolan for complex ideas and a sense of internal reality-Snyder-for world-building, concrete-shattering-and awesome casting (And yes, I feel like without Snyder, Cavill might not be Superman).

I really hope the suit doesn't make him fly...i do not care for that idea

I remember seeing something with Russel Crowe where he was asked if Jor-El flies in the movie. He replied, "No. That's Henry's thing.."

I don't know about that, I mean if she was dreaming while she was being exposed to the Yellow sun then maybe that's why she saw herself doing that, foreshadowing instead of what kryptonians could do under the yellow sun.

She was just wishing that she had the ability to stop her boyfriend from dying whilst dreaming. The Kryptonian Enviromental Suits DO NOT GIVE THE ABILITY TO FLY!!!!

I would be very, very unhappy (to put it lightly) if the suit is what caused Superman to fly. But I'm 100% sure that its just not the case. There is no way they would ever chalk it up to anything other than his own innate abilities.

I really hope the suit doesn't make him fly...i do not care for that idea

nor do I.

Like I said, I'm 99.99% sure they're not going that route.

it would be so extremely stupid and , especially when all they've talked about is how much they love the character.

I really think the "what the suit can do" refers to the material and function of the suit and its purpose as an environmental suit.

maybe the cape can retract into the suit for storage. or the whole suit can retract.

Goyer and Nolan combo perfect.

Goyer knows the comics inside out and knows is a good storyteller of comics and knows what we want to see and good at bringing panels to the screen. Nolan is EXCELLENT at story structure, story arcs, character building and themes. The 2 combined is a gold mind and a billion dollar franchise.

Adding Snyder's enthusiasm to the film, his visual flair and OH MY DAYS IM CUMMING IN MY PANTS. This will be my favourite film of all time without a doubt. I haven't seen the film but know what happens in 90% (yes I'm up to 90% now) and just can't wait to see it on screen instead of in my head. EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!!!!!!1

not sure if this has been posted yet - IGN's set visit. some interesting information

"Jonathan Kent has compiled quite the collection of books about the cosmos, aliens, and UFOs over the years, it seems. In addition, the wall has a collection of strange happenings around the world – particularly in Smallville – that all seem to be connected to his search for answers about his son.
UFO sightings, abductions, pyramids, and more adorn the walls of the barn"

Adding ZS to the mix is like if Sega Genesis merged with SNES.

A sophisticated video game system-WITH BLAST PROCESSING!
