WB just needs to put this movie out there. There needs to be tons of Man of Steel merch. They need to go all out because this is Superman's last chance on film.

I swear, if it weren't for the fact I loved BB and TDK, I wouldn't be at all hyped for this film.

It got no reaction (not positive anyway) from The Avengers audience on Saturday.

On the plus side the trailer for the new American pie movie looked great

the slow moving TDKR trailer sadly looked boring and indeed stuck up it's own arse when shown before Avengers.

Transformers? Loved it.
I also love leaving las vegas, Trainspotting, Moulin Rouge, It's a wonderful life and Dogma..

I love good movies.
However we all have differing views on what makes a good movie.


but thats a seperate point. In my opinion the trailer for TDKR is boring.
And when shown along side a film like Avengers it gets forgotten.. Very quickly.

It's a matter of taste. Plain and simple.
While Avengers was madly entertaining and a definite superhero-movie, I still think it's very kids- and teen-orientated compared to the more mature Batman-movies that clearly plays a different set of buttons. Buttons I myself have and prefer.

Avengers= mindless fun for old school comic fans equivalent to amusement parks, in that it's full of fun but when you leave you're drained and have the memories.

The dark knight= Smart satire and mature fun equivalent to Shakespeare, in that you are in awe and talk about it and discuss it and go back again in case you missed something.

you just proved my point lol. Those are not movies that make you think, and are all visual and over explained, in the movie! You like checkers, the movies I'm talking about are for chess lovers, but it's your taste and you are entitled to your opinion. I was very pumped as were everyone I knew for the avengers trailer because it was a dream come true. Tdkr even more so cause it seems like the movie is going to be entertaining as well as a massive mind*****

transformers: great action visuals no substance
watchman: is like a fine wine it's an acquired taste, I loved the original cut, the extended cut bores me because it's to much and they were trying to hard.
The avengers great action visuals story was so so but great popcorn flick.
Batman begins: epic scifi drama loved it
The dark knight: epic crime drama loved it.
Trainspotting : boring and dull no substance love the soundtrack
Moulin rouge: flashy visuals not my kind of movie but it was ok
It's a wonderful life: hallmark movie of the week
Dogma: movie full of itself but funny
Inception: masterpiece
Girl with the dragon tattoo: perfect
Citizen Kane: masterpiece
Twilight zone: masterpiece
Man of Steel: hopefully masterpiece lol

Anywho, I wasn't blown away by the first theatrical trailer, but then again, Inception's first theatrical trailer wasn't exciting nor memorable either. With that said, those trailers weren't meant to be high-octane, they were meant to be mysterious.

However, from everything I've heard about the upcoming second theatrical trailer and five minute CinemaCon footage, TDKR going to blow people's minds.

Also I loved sucker punch I watched it twice in theaters the first time for the visuals the second for the story, when i watched it for the visuals I kinda got what the story was about the second it became very clear the entire movie took place in her mind of her exaggerated memories within the seconds of her getting the lobotomy, and the girl on the bus is her in her own mind becoming free of the abuse and guilt she endured.

The TDKR teaser was 1:30 because they had a ton of footage from BB and TDK as well as slides. I wasn't being serious, but wanted to get at the fact that you can't possibly know what the first teaser is going to present. You can make as many guesses as you want, but unless you're currently employed in WB's marketing department, or a trailer house currently working on such a piece, you probably don't have any idea. It's just the way it is. You can look at recent trends, sure, but beyond that, there's a lot of work and opinions that will go into the marketing: WB president of marketing, WB marketing executives, trailer house producers, copy writers, editors, focus groups, and more. I think it would be better to keep an open mind than start assuming what we're going to see.

Are you talking about The Amazing Spider-Man? Because the teaser for that was actually 2:29 and that was because they had either finished filming, or they were close to being finished.

Man of Steel has finished filming for a while now and they still have 2-3 months left until the release of a possible teaser. They can definitely have a 2:29 teaser like TAS had and imo, actually show some good action bits.

Personally i've never subscribed too or actually understood the internet snobbery that revolves around film makers such as Michael Bay (who, for the record I still feel would have made one hell of a Superman movie).

Your comments about Avengers were true, it may well be kids/teen orientated and it was about as entertaining as a movie can get.

The dark knight was a strange one to be honest, when I let the cinema after watching it I said to my other half that they could have removed batman from that film and it still would have been great.
Essentially it was a very well put together crime drama that just happened to involve Batman.

A truly great film that deserved all of its critical acclaim.
Did Transformers deserve the fanboy backlash it recieved? In my opinion no.
It entertained. Pure and simple.

Now, Man of steel trailer needs to grab our attention, it needs to make us want to go to the cinema to watch the movie.
The first TDKR trailer (for me) didn't do that.
I would go to the cinema anyway on the strangth of the previous movie but the trailer didn't impress me at all.
Sadly Superman does not have the luxury of a strong previous movie. The trailer HAS to be strong, it HAS to make people want to go to the cinema and watch the movie.

Had I been 15 today Avengers would've probably been my favorite movie for the next couple of years. Which is fine. I'm not 15 anymore though and want more from a movie than just the visuals if I want it to be more than that. Avengers wasnt really and Batman is. That's just how it is. But you cant compare the movies themselves, only their intentions really and it's pretty clear that both movies require different things from their audiences.

But yes, Nolan's Batman has never felt like superhero-movies in that sense, but rather a crime drama with an amored vigilante, like you said. That's an angle that attracts me too.

How about the very first teaser to BB, which is what you should be comparing MOS with in this case. That teaser worked fine imo. But I agree that the teasers for TDK and TDKR have been mostly subtle, talkative and dare I say slightly boring. The latest one for TDKR is pretty hefty though while not trying to "rival" its "competition" with visual fluff.

So... where does that leave MOS? Will that fall in between the visual (excessive) orgy of the Avengers and the grounded drama of Batman? Maybe. Probably to a certain extent. It does sound like the teaser will just tease while focusing on our main character. That's sweet music to my ears, but it may not be what the character needs right now to finally reach the GA.

But I have absolutely no idea where this could go either, because it's still Snyder we're dealing with. In the end it just can not go down quietly. I can only imagine that the teaser will at least be beautifully composed and rich in detail while setting up the basic drama and tease the action.
