All Things Superman: An Open Discussion

I dont remember much. I have to read it again but I always thought they were quite similar. And it fit JJ script much more than Singers because of the action beats and all.

Dont know what you mean by that since my point was that Singer wasnt original and didnt bring anything new to Superman except a bastard child.

My point was pretty clear, why is Singer unoriginal for using Abrams plane sequence, when the plane sequence is very similar to the serial and cartoon episode I mentioned.

Ok. Back on topic. What do you think of Tom Welling in Smallville? Like or dislike?

Thats cool then. But still, my point still stands that Singer didnt bring anything new to the table and the thing fans praise the most, ie, the plane sequence, wasnt his idea at all so he shouldn't take credit for it.

Yeah. Enough!

well, singer did bring new things to superman, and he got backlash for it. obviously, this would be in regards to the kid. like it or not, singer had the balls to take a chance and try something very progressive there with superman. personally, i thought that plot had immense potential for some very cool things in the sequel. shame we wont get to see it play out as planned. fans always say they want fresh and new takes, and progression of character, but then they always complain when they get it because its unfamiliar territory for a property they covet.

also, superman's first appearance to the public is most often portrayed by him saving a plane from crashing. so, its entirely appropriate that he be re-introduced to the public the same way. i thought it was a good idea and hardly one that even abrams could take credit for, since its always been a staple of supermans mythology.

I thought he was a bad actor at first but now i think he improved a lot and since last season he's been really good. I actually like Smallville and cant wait for the finale.

Did Abrams direct the plane sequence?

Because on the paper everything can look good. But it was Singer the one executing it and the one responsible for it being a great action scene.

The idea of Superman having a kid was never the problem to me. But the way he did it was. I liked the kid idea in Last Son.

Superman having a kid, imo, should be at the end of the franchise or something like what was done in the animated All-Star Superman.

Now me and C. Lee can discuss what we want in here. Maybe I'll turn it into a moderator only open discussion that you guys can't see but can't touch.

It's not having the a son that's the problem. But this is an ICON. This is not a guy who's having outta wedlock kids like some NFL or NBA player!

He get's married and THEN has a kid. This was not cool....AT ALL!

Thanks Singer!

Tht could be fun. :funny:

Those last pages of this thread were so 2006. Getting into 100% heated arguements about SR is pointless now.

sidenote...marvel has already announced sequels to both cap and thor..that may end up biting them in the rear.
Nothing against either character, I just think its kinda risky announcing sequels this early.

I doubt we see WB as eager this time on announciong a sequel to MOS so soon...Maybe Marvel is hoping for some more I.M. catching lightning in a bottle type numbers..

Announcing a sequel and actually doing it are two separate things.

Assuming that they're going down the "Birthright" route for this film's plot, I really hope to see this version of Clark/Superman 'earn' the public's trust and admiration for him by throughout the film, climaxing in them finally accepting him as one of their own when they realize that he really is a hero at the end of the film.

One of the problems that I had with both STM and SR was that Superman was accepted too quickly by the public. There should have been some doubt and mistrust played in him and it makes a scene where we see people clapping for him that much more powerful when you've seen as to how much Superman has gone through in order to earn that from them.

True.

I really hope that if Brainiac is not in it, we at least see him set up for a sequel?? hopefully there is a sequel.

With Superman's origins being covered in this film alongside having a villain like General Zod and possibly Faora as well, i don't think this film will have the time, let alone the resources to do Brainiac's character justice without him feeling like what Venom was for Spiderman 3.

As much as I want to see the character, I would rather wait three years to see him in the sequel and done right, than have him squished into this film and come off as a mistake.

I'm sure that IF he is intended to be in the sequel, that he'll be hinted at the end of the film.

I'd love to finally see Brainiac on the movie screen.

Hmmm. Well, setting the Fortress in the Arctic doesn't necessarily mean it has to look like the Donner Fortress. It wouldn't make sense anyway, since they are supposedly doing away with the crystal technology.

Yeah no idea what version they are actually going to use, but apparently their will be one I guess.

They really need to ditch the crystal stuff...really bring in something different. Maybe look to the underwater fortress from Superman: The Animated Series for inspiration.

Personally, I'd like it to be carved out of the inside of a snow covered mountain.

The Burton fortress, while very "bat-cavey" wasn't too bad:

I've never understood that Burton design. It just looks like a normal cave with some sort of weird bug light on the floor.
