I haven't really read enough of MM to understand why people want him in a JL movie so soon. His costume is awful. Character wise, he seems (to me anyway) to be DC's version of the Thing: someone with a grotesque appearance who happens to have a heart of gold. His powers seem mundane next to the others in the JL. I don't hate him. I'd LOVE to like him, but I just don't get him yet.

Really? I see him more as the wise leader of the JL. Sort of Zen. And his powers stand out among the others especially if they emphasize his telepathy and shapeshifting and downplay his flying brick power set.

Also, Martian Manhunter loves Oreos. How can you not love an Oreo eating, shape shifting Martian?

MM is a bad ass character. His Background is very sci fi and I love it.

Trouble is, he's basically Superman, if he grew up with his own people.

I don't see the point of comparing all these heroes to superman. We could literally find tons of similarities between all of them and supes.

So all aliens are basically Superman? Nope....

And Aquaman is just like Wonder Woman except he's the King of the Sea. Ones a princess warrior of an unknown world, ones a king of an unknown world...

Flash is like Batman. Both are detectives. Flash can run fast, Batman has no powers.

Maybe I'm being harsh in saying Martian Manhunter's DC's version of the Thing. He did appear first, and the subtlety in his characterization probably works better than Thing's. I suppose I believe GL and Flash deserve a place in the JL movie before we see MM. He still doesn't stand out as a necessary addition to me yet, and the comparisons to him being "like Superman" only make him look less required.

But again, I'll have a look at some of his more famous stories. I'm sure he's there for a reason.

The Martian Manhunter made his comicbook appearance well before The Silver Surfer and The Thing.

He mentioned writers, hmm. This sounds like a solo movie that may not even be attached to JL. I hope it is though.

If he's telling the truth and there's no GL...then it could be Cyborg. Unless they want to do some backstory movie for MM. But the way he described his powers, that would land closer to Manhunter.

Imagine the comedy brought to the movie with the Rock eating oreos haha.

Martian Manhunter is nothing like Superman. At the end of the day, Superman is still human at heart. He looks human and grew up in a human society, despite his alien roots. He is one of us. On the other hand, Martian Manhunter is an immigrant alien. He doesn't look like us, never grew up in our society, isn't accustomed to anything, struggles to fit in at first, etc. Yet he chose Earth as his new home anyways.

Plus, the whole point behind Superman is that he came from a better world to bring hope into our world. Whether that world is another planet or Asgard, that message is the same. Whereas with Martian Manhunter, the whole point behind him is specifically the fact that he is an alien.

Read Double Stuff. Funny little story. Booster Gold & Blue Beatle steal J'onn cookies and J'onn ain't happy.

Powers isn't what sets Superman apart. Superman is the heart of the Justice League. He is the moral leader. Batman is the strategic leader. Wonder Woman is the humanitarian leader.

Okay then:

Similarities-
From advanced alien race
Last of said alien race
Weakness in presence to something not inherently dangerous
Flies
Super-strength
Invulnerability
Vision Powers
Allter ego
Red and blue costumes

Differences-
J'onn likes oreos
J'onn can read minds
J'onn can move through things

Powers isn't what sets Superman apart. Superman is the heart of the Justice League. He is the moral leader.

Superman's the leader.
Batman's the brains.
GL is the willpower.
Flash is the heart.
J'onn is the glue that holds them together.
Wonder Woman is the peace keeper.
Aquaman is the joke. :oldrazz:

Eh. The Amazons preach peace but practice war, Paradox Island is hard to define.

There's also the fact that they have very different backstories, personalities, ideologies, belief systems, weaknesses, etc. Also, as far as I'm aware, Superman can't alter the density of his own body, phase through stuff, shapeshift, use telepathy, etc. So basically even their powers aren't that similar.

The Xavier caliber telepathy mixed with the Kitty pride like intangibility mixed with the mystique shape changing than all that superman strength speed..etc.
Tied together with his passive and gentle disposition...
Weakness to fire...

DC's Ben grim he is not. That being said I have no idea what changes they've no doubt made in this new 52.

That's not really that much of a paradox. You can want peace and try to preserve it, but also be willing to fight if there's no other option. one could be a humanitarian, but if someone's trying to kill/maim you, or someone that you care about, then they're going down hard and that doesn't make you NOT a humanitarian. It's not a paradox, it's just the way things are.

The best writers take those one dimensional conventional and toss them in the dumpster. It really should be up in the air and circumstantial. Thank you Joe Kelly.
