Paul Verhoeven's career nosedived after Showgirls.

Yeah, it did. I still wonder what he was trying to accomplish with that movie. I'm not sure if he was literally trying to make a horrible film, or if it was intended as a satire like his other movies. Either way, it's terrible on every level, although Gina Gershon is hot in it.

Like I said in the last thread, this thread moves faster than the Wrestling Thread. :hehe:

Showgirls, like Starship Troopers, has been enjoying a resurgence in reputation. Paul Verhoeven has more respect now than he did ten years ago. I suspect the same will happen to Zack Snyder down the line.

The Detroit Zoo auctioned off a walk-on role for 3,500.

No a penguin won the penguin confirmed to be played by Jack black (I couldn't think of any living portly actors)

3,500 dollars to say

"Here's your paper Mr. Luthor"

WORTH IT.

Maybe a Croc won. That's a killer role for him to be in BvS.

Will the same happen with Snyder? Hard to say; he tends to be a very divisive controversial figure in Hollywood.

You know who my pick for Penguin was? Bob Hopskins.

Tell me this isn't perfect.

Rest in peace Bob.

Hey! You guys took all the good animal jokes and now I am reduced to making some snide comment that maybe this guy paid the $3500.00 to get in the movie:

B'wana Beast!

(On a side note, my kids actually cried when he died in Brave and the Bold. He was such a great character in that show.)

When it comes to Zack Snyder, sure there isnt a huge cheer squad but I think people will find if he does an amazing job on Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice public opinion will turn in his favor.

The only reason Zack Snyder isn't as respected as other directors is that he's yet to make a film as good as Usual Suspects, the original LOTR trilogy, or TDK. Its as simple as that.

I find it funny when people claim his detractors make up excuses and rationalizations, when they do the same exact thing.

If Batman v Superman is actually a great film, he will get praise for it.

Not only that, but some people think just because they personally like something, it must be great, and anyone that disagrees clearly has something wrong with them.

There's a lot of that these days. I think people are much more thin-skinned so they lash out when somebody doesnt like the same thing they do.

It goes both ways. Some who dislike something will vehemently deny any contrary opinion.

As Arya says, that goes both ways. I can't count how many times someone has resorted to the tired old tag of "fanboy" when someone disagrees with their negative assessment of something.

I wish Man of Steel would've had a bit more easter eggs, and maybe a cameo or two. If the intention all along was to build a DCCU, there could have been a few more seeds planted with MOS.

Obviously. But I'm talking about over defensive Snyder fans, not his overzealous haters, which aren't as legion as people might want to believe.

That goes both ways.

What usually separates the two is that when somebody doesnt get the same agreement they feel many lash out at other members on a personal level. I think often when somebody lashes out they feel somehow somebody criticizing something they like will infringe upon their own enjoyment of the product.
