Given batman's smile and the tarp, I'm not convinced they aren't maybe pulling the wool over the worlds eyes. In and out of the film.

If I was writing the movie I would have Lexcorp secretly develop Kryptonite. Batman finds out and instead of warning Superman about it he steals it to run tests on it himself, hence why Superman is so mad at him. I think that would be cool.
