Ah, the old "grounded"=automatically serious argument. Gotta love the hype.

Gotta love pretentious sarcasm.

He said GROUNDED, BADASS, and he's described his character as an ANTIHERO.

Those words scream serious movie to me. To the people that are expecting a Jeff Smith style childrens story, i think you will be disappointed. I think they will be going for a Harry Potter esque tone here, or the tone of the Geoff Johns Shazam stuff. It's not completely dead serious, but Shazam's enemies are.

Billy's environment, Sivana, and Black Adam can be serious and intimidating threats without the movie being overly serious. Billy/Shazam will obviously be cracking jokes, but the world around him will be somewhat grounded and serious. There will surely be levity, but this isn't going to be a straight up kids movie.

You know, even if it's like that, I don't think I'll mind it so much now...But thought he would be good for comic relief.

I still think Shazam will be used for comic relief, but he will be a comedic character in a serious environment, with serious enemies. Billy Batson's early story is a little bit depressing, he's an orphan that lives on the streets in some interpretations. Everyone seems to think all of the Shazam lore is completely lighthearted. It is sometimes, but not always. A more serious approach wouldn't be going against the spirit of the character. I actually think that's a respectful way to go, and a more mature interpretation gets me more excited than a straight kids movie. THERE WILL BE JOKES. Shazam is a child in an adult's body. Of course there will be jokes. But i suspect Black Adam, the Wizard and Sivana (if used) will be played straight for the most part.

exactly what we assumed, but it's encouraging that they really seem to be moving forward with this.

It's a great time to be a DC fan. I really hope Sandman is as connected to the DCCU as much as the books were connected to the DCU.
This lineup is a ****ing amazing way to kick off the DC universe. This lineup is deeply mythological, supernatural and magical, I love it. It'll really set DC apart from Marvel.

Those domains have been registered by WB but the sites only redirect to the official WB site. Thus, they're placeholders for now.

Yeah I'm going with Seth Rogen on that one. If he felt compelled enough to say that it was bs then i trust him, he could easily verify something like that if he wanted to, with the connections he has.

Coming out with a Sandman movie this early in the game is such a genius business strategy. Sandman is seriously some of the best **** i've read, period. It has the potential to be such an original film series. and JGL will be perfect for Morpheus. we just need a great director on this, it'll be a tough job.

JGL and Ben Affleck are inventing a new superhero category. The category where the director is the star of the film. Can't think of another director who was the lead of a CBM. Yea Jon was Happy but Happy isn't the lead.

Maybe Chris Evans could join them.

It died in the development process from roughly 2000 onwards and only came back to life last year. OTOH, the Justice League registration was almost surely as part of the new plan.
