See, I think most of the "improved" New 52 costumes are equally poorly designed and too detailed and "busy" Did the Flash costume of the last 20 plus years really need any improvement? Has anyone ever actually said, "Hey, I'd read the hell out of DC heroes... If it just weren't for the costumes. They need to be designed and detailed to within an inch of their life. If they did that, for sure I'd drop $3.99 on each issue!"

The problem is you just flat out shouldn't use a song as recognizable as Smells Like Teen Spirit in a superhero movie.
It immediately takes the viewer out of the story and unless the setting is early 90's Seattle, it's pointless. It dates your story.

No one knew the Cornell song from MoS.

Edit: but I think you guys already discussed that.

But, New 52 Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) suit is an improvement. I mean, look at his original classic costume.

Seasons is a fairly well known song, the Singles soundtrack was pretty successful. But i guess to most of the general public, they didn't immediately recognize it. Smells Like Teen Spirit would be totally wrong for a Batman movie, but I can see "You Know You're Right" working IF a Nirvana song is used. And it would have to be used tastefully like Cornell's song in MOS.

The lyrics work well with Batman :
I will never bother you
I will never promise to
I will never follow you
I will never bother you

Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good

I will move away from here
You wont be afraid of fear
No thought was put in to this
I always knew it would come to this

Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to feel
Pain

You Know you're Right

I'm so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide
Let's talk about someone else
Steaming soup against her mouth
Nothing really bothers her
She just wants to love herself

I will move away from here
You wont be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
I always knew to come like this

Things have never been so swell
I have never failed to feel
Pain

You know You're Right

Pain

I liked Green Lantern, Aquaman, Batman, New 52 designs. Hate Superman new 52 costume. Meh on Flash New 52 costume

I think the comics should use the MOS suit, or something very similar to it. Firstly it's a great suit, and secondly the movie has a much larger reach than the comics and therefore the MOS suit is much more recognizable and approachable to people who aren't into comics yet.

This I agree with

To the people that have a problem with Nirvana in a Batman movie. Did you have a problem with Chris Cornell's music in a Superman movie? Rock music can work in these movies when used well. MOS is a perfect example of this. No one thought that was out of place. A Nirvana song could easily work in a Batman movie if it's subtle and tasteful like Chris Cornell's Seasons in MOS. Chris Cornell is a grunge god and they used his music in MOS, it's just as crazy for them to use a Cornell song as it would be to use a Nirvana song.

I am one to always defend man of steel, but I didn't like that song in my favorite superhero movie.

chris cornell's song wasn't rock. that was more country/folk than anything else. because he's fronted soundgarden and audioslave doesn't mean that everything he does is rock.

regarding nirvana, like anything other song, everything has it's place. it'll depend on the scene and the song.

if there was a scene where he's gotten back to wayne manor after having spent the night fighting crime and he's patching himself looking at a picture of his parents etc, a song like 'Dumb' wouldn't be anywhere near as terrible as sticking teen spirit in a scene where there was some ass kicking going on. it's just lame.

I didn't even remember a song in MOS lol. Just give me a good score please.

Yes... Because Hal and the Flash were being drawn and inked EXACTLY like they were in 1960 in the 21st century, before the New 52. :whatever:

A lot of the new 52 costumes do seem to have details that make them look like something Iron Man would do....overly detailed and complicated. Although a lot of the costumes I'm okay with, but of course the pre-new 52 costumes are better.

I am excited by the possibility that DC might be returning to the universes pre-52. I really hope it happens. But there are lots of questions too - like Batgirl, Nightwing. Clark/Lois. Even Wonder Woman and the Justice League.

I don't care if they get rid of Superman's collar, it doesn't bother me one way or the other. But don't go back to the red underwear.

The others don't look different enough to matter, imo.
Lines or not, The Flash is still The Flash, GL still looks like GL, and so on and so forth.
(I'm speaking specifically about the Justice League really)

Don't know why you are getting worked up, my point was that the original classic Green Lantern suits were used as a design template for many years (in modified form). The original costume design never looked good to me. (IMO.)
.

For example, even in Geoff John's Secret Origins, the GL (Hal Jordan's) costume is closer in design to old GL costume.

So, GL's new 52 costume is an improvement.

And, just for the record, the new 52 Superman and Flash costumes suck.

Seasons is one of my favorite songs, but I think it was an inappropriate choice for Man of Steel, especially considering that it comes on right around the time when Cavill's Clark emerges from the water to show off his physique. Cornell himself joked that it only made sense to him when Clark grabbed some flannel off a clothesline. :hehe:

Either way, if you read the lyrics, Seasons is a very deep/introspective song. I get that Clark is sort of lost at the start of MoS (he's looking to find his niche in the world), but I didn't really see him as this tortured figure.

Judging by the latest rumours of DCs upcoming movies this seems to be their slate

Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice - 3/25/16

Shazam - 8/5/16

Justice League - 6/23/17

Sandman - 11/17/17

Aquaman- 3/23/18

Suicide Squad - 7/27/18

Wonderwoman- 4/05/19

Man of Steel 2- 6/14/19

Batman Solo- 4/03/20

Justice League 2 - 6/19/20

Most people don't think that deep into instrumental song choices in movies unless it's tonally way off.
The song in MoS was fine.
But I also didn't "know" it was song until you guys identified it.

It wasn't an instrumental song, quite the opposite, Chris Cornell's recognizable voice drives the song

Wow I must've really been focused on shirtless Cavill.
I barely remember lyrics and I've seen it multiple times.

Yeah people don't even notice that song really, i was just saying a Nirvana song could work just as well if it's used subtly like Seasons was used.

I never thought about the specific song at that point other than to think it fit well into the scene. It was different and I liked hearing it there.

It took several veiwing to notice it was a song. I'm not a fan of songs in movie most of the time, but this one didn't bother me.
