Weren't we conditioned from childhood that "Heroes don't smoke" ? Anyway, I'm all for the femme fatale puffing a few for aesthetic reasons. Though, no, if my girlfriend started smoking tomorrow I'd burn every pack she bought. Every. single. bud.

Yeah if its someone in my family or something I dont want them smoking, but if I see a random girl who is smoking I dont find her any less attractive cause she has a cigarette in her hand.

Because it's gross, makes you smell and causes a plethora of debilitating diseases. Oh and it makes you age faster also.

Those only apply if you're in a long term relationship or spend years with the person IMO. The only deterrent of a short relationship with a smoker is the smoke-smell, and I've been around it my hold life so it doesnt bother me at all.

The actual act of smoking is very sexy. The smell and the life threatening side effects not so much. However I wouldn't go off a woman if she smoked.

Really? No offense but I never understood the big turnoff from smokers, is it the smoke smell or what?? The only beef I have with smokers is that its a ridiculously expensive habit.

It's simply the grossest thing a human can do to ones self. When you stand around a smoker it is like the worst freakin' smell on earth. I don't care how hot a girl is, if she lights up I won't look at her twice.

I can't date habitual smokers anymore, only because I quit six months ago and I don't want to relapse.

Fortunately, my girlfriend only smokes with friends and when I'm not around.

I think its the stupidest thing a human can do to ones self, but I dont really find it "gross". Multiple people in my family smoke, and some have passed away from it. The smell really has never bothered me, that being said, no one in my family who smokes looks like Anne Hathaway :o

Oh no... not even close :p but hey it's up there. Though no, what I really want to know is how the act of smoking itself came to be considered sexy? Especially for 'powerful, alluring' women-types in Hollywood? I remember once hearing that 'smoking isn't feminine' so, naturally, it became a symbol of power and control (and defiance I suppose) when a girl lit one up. Maybe it's "Sexy" because it shows a dance with death? I honestly have no clue.

Catwoman just seems like the kind of woman who would dare that dance though.

Yep. Point is it looks sexy and depending on the person it'll also make them come off as edgier. Since we are simply watching a movie, I see no issue with Selina lighting it up every now and then. It's one of the most identifiable traits of the noir genre.

Likely a moot discussion however, as it'll probably never get through the ratings boards or with studios. Bunch of *****es. :o

That was wise. I guess quitting a habit is much more braver than whatever dance-with-death can bring about.

My brother uses one of those E-smoke thingies, the crazy ones that are battery-operated or some such? I dunno if it's the same or different, but he's trying to quit and says it helps. It's kinda like the one Depp used in The Tourist. I'm not sure of the term.

That alone should justify its use on film. I do think that the PG-13 rating has become more lenient in its many years, so who knows. Might work out after all.

It's the "hand-to-mouth" fixation.

If you really want to be crude, it's a woman putting a shaft in her mouth. What image does that call to mind :awesome:?

There hasn't been smoking in mainstream film for about 15 years, Selina ain't lighting up for sure.

I thought cigarette smoking resulted in an R-rating these days, anyway.

Funny how completely legal and accepted actions such as sex and smoking are uncalled for, yet violence always seems to be universally allowed. Protect the children, indeed.

I don't think it's been quite that long. I know 2007 was when the MPAA officially inserted smoking into their rating guidelines. I believe shots of cigarettes and the like are allowed, but the actual smoking is limited.

Sigourney Weaver in the PG 13 Avatar smoked. So did Lois Lane in Superman Returns.

Welcome to America. Where nipples are evil.

Well, to be fair, I guess it makes more sense that legal-actions are censored since they have escaped the extreme barriers of law? Though I don't get it either way. If you think something is so terrible, you don't sweep it under the rug, you outright say that it's terrible.

Or, y'know, show it in a way that scares the bejeses outta em.

Crazy that there's cigarette smoking in Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, eh?

'twas a different time...

Forgot about Weaver in Avatar.

Guess I'm mistaken then.

As Nolan is a huge noir genre fan, I wouldn't be opposed or surprised if Selina lights up at some point, as stated earlier if they're going for an edgier more rebellious Selina, I can absolutely see her doing it. But as this will be marketed towards teenagers/young adults, theres little to no chance she'll be smoking in it.

Guys like Cameron tend to "get all the calls"... I think you're largely right. You certainly don't see smoking in PG-13 movies very often.

The Joker is smoking outside of Mr. Beaumont's house when Bruce drops Andrea off. He flicks the cigarette at the car as Bruce is driving away.

And Sal Valestra blows smoke in Mr. Beaumont's face during their "meeting."

Yeah, that's right.

Speaking from the experience of PT, I think that Selina wouldn't want to hinder her physical performance by smoking.

The imagery of smoking itself looks cool as hell. There, I said it. But I don't condone it. It's a disgusting habit that I can't stand. In terms of something cinematic, some of my favorite images are characters with a cigarette hanging out of their mouth or lighting up.

Yeah and on Titanic he has a lingering boob shot, yet maintained the PG-13 rating.

I've never understood how that worked.
