I wonder if he had a screentest with Katie Holmes and Maggie Gyllenhaal... cause their chemistry was severely lacking.

Hathaway needs to bring a bit of sexual tension into this franchise.

I'm not sure about Holmes, and not that I'm a WB producer or anything, but I don't think Bale had a screentest with Maggie.

I would think so especially since the chemistry is extremely vital to her role. If they weren't considering the chemistry, I don't think they will need Bale for the screentest.

Yup. The lack of chemistry is more because of that IMO. Rachel's character is really not something that will spark something sexual.

I thought Bale had good chemistry with Penelope Cruz (Captain Corelli's Mandolin) but I don't want to burden anyone with seeing that movie.

I know I'm reaching, but I like to think that Nolan and Goyer (and for TDK, Jonah) went out of their way to actually show minimum chemistry between Bale and the 2 Rachels. Not that they always had CW in mind for TDKR, but I think they knew from the beginning Rachel's function and importance in this franchise.

i think bale, like any other actor, can have chemistry if paired w/ the right co-star, but most of his roles have not required him to rely on his sex appeal. i don't think an actor who didn't have sexual charisma could have played patrick bateman. that character is a sociopath who uses his looks and charisma to his advantage. the thing with bale is that he's gone out of his way to avoid the rom-com path that other guys like gerard butler, eric bana, ryan reynolds, etc. have gone down. bale knows he's a good looking dude, but he doesn't want to be known for that.

when it comes to nolan, however, i totally agree with you. i love the guy's work, but he's one of the most sexless filmmakers to come down the pike in years. and that's why it totally unsurprised me that he cast hathaway. sure, she's pretty, but she's a sexual poodle. IMO, someone like olivia wilde would've been perfect for the part. she has the effortless sexuality and confidence that screams selina kyle, but i can imagine nolan saying, "i dunno, she's a bit too hot, i think."

I was rolling eyes at the condescending comment above yours, apologies. Of course I understand people have different tastes and find different things attractive, but she has been universally sexy in some of her roles, because thats what the roles entailed and shes a great actress.

I think she can pull it off, though I have to see her do it yet in any movie. Heaths CV prior to TDK didn't suggest he could pull off a psychotic anarchist terrorist, but he did.

Yeah, I don't find Hathaway sexy at all. She's by no means ugly, but I don't find her hot, either. She's just.....ok. Which isn't bad, IMO.

More than anything, I'm just waiting patiently to see what she looks like in the costume until I'll have a real opinion of her as Catwoman. But for now, it is what it is.

Haha, not many have. Its a horrible, horrible film, but she is extremely sexy in it. The role has her using her sexiness as a tool so I immediately see similarities to Selina. I believe she did it in 05' after her Princess Diaries sequel to assumedly not be known for those innocent types of roles, but not many people saw Havoc so shes unfortunately still known for "Diaries"

So I realize I may belabor the point a bit but I LOVE visual aids.

Now, I know I'm not going to convince anyone who really has serious doubts about Anne's ability to pull Catwoman off but at the very least I can say that I see the attitude in her eyes, especially in photos like this. She's undeniably gorgeous and I can see due to the roles she's played in the past why people might still be a little skeptical but I think Anne knows that too. I think she realizes that she has a pretty high expectation to live up to, but she'll do what all memorable actresses do, she'll not only go beyond expectations, she'll shatter them to create something that completely her own.

I mean part of the fun of Nolan's Batman is to see his take on the characters. She's going to create her own brand of Catwoman. Yes, sexual power is an important component but Catwoman really is so much more than that.

I much rather see someone like Anne tackle this than the obvious choice. Olivia Wilde I'm sure would do well, but would she add anything to the formula? I think Nolan knows exactly what he needs and Anne seems like the type of "balls-out" (to borrow a phrase from Mr. Bale) chick he needs to carry it through. She seems passionate about the role. I think more than anything Catwoman should be passionate.

What makes Catwoman/Selina sexy is her confidence, her intelligence, and yes her physical beauty, but more than that I'd say she's accessible, we can relate to her. She's a deeper shade of gray than Bruce is and just as complex. What makes their relationship powerful is that she's a mirror of him. She should be sexy but she should be classy enough to blend in. At the same time, she, like Bruce, shouldn't ever quite fit into her Selina character. She should become her true self as Catowoman, as Bruce Wayne is with Batman. More than just sexual tension, there should be truce romantic tension, a true understanding of one another.

I'm sure Nolan has taken the importance of Selina Kyle in Bruce's life into account. I don't think he would have bothered to screentest them together if he didn't realize this.
