You hit the nail on the head, Larxene. Catwoman in the comics sucks nowadays

. I liked her best as the playful yet competent thief from her first series. I don't know why DC editors seems hell bent on keeping her on the path of victim and loser. It seems like they reward writers for how much crap they can pile on this poor woman. I thought things would get better with Batman Inc but looks like the clock's struck midnight and she's back in that pumpkin called Sirens again.
She absolutely needs a reboot. New origin. New costume. New creative team. Wonder what Johns has in mind for her in Earth One. He did say he and Gary Frank had big plans for her.
I wouldn't even
mind if she became an ally as long as she retained some of what made her so dynamic in the first place. She lost that freedom, and the joy she used to experience when doing so. It's sad to see, but there's nothing that can be done unless there's a turn around for her character. She's mostly all white now, helping people, being a do-gooder, a guardian to her neighborhood, etc., all the while being encased with angst. If I wanted to see that, I would've tuned in to every single heroine.
Batman was the anti-hero of the story. Catwoman was a chaotic, independent, thrill-seeker who followed her own rules, wrong or right. Part of the Rogues Gallery, but also smoothed in with the good guys. Not
belonging there, yet she fitted in. It's why she could so easily switch sides (current Selina can't do that anymore without it being odd). Anti-villain with a heart of gold (and sane). Completely obliterated recently. At least she hasn't gone down like Talia did.
I can only hope those "big plans" are for the better. She needs her reputation back and for the complaints to end.
I haven't been keeping up, but they have her back in
Sirens? I actually
love the whole trinity of "Kitty", Harley, and Ivy, but not when they are doing Selina so wrong in the process

. That's why I liked
Gotham Girls better (the flash animation by WB).
I thought BTAS Catwoman was lame. Didn't she even have a fainting couch in that Roland Daggett episode? Much prefer her in The Batman or Brave and the Bold.
I was trying to be more nice, but yeah, she was. She was absolutely, freaking
gorgeous, no doubt, but the characterization was...lukewarm. I know Selina's had her damsel in distress moments in the comics, but in
BTAS, it's like that was her sole purpose of the episodes she was in. The most vivid one was with Red Claw, where I was waiting for her to
do something instead of just getting kicked and kicked until some cat saved her.
A cat saved her. I forgot if it was a tiger or something, but still, how pathetic. The
only episode I liked with her in it was Catwalk - almost made up for the rest. Almost.
Her
TNBA version, despite some people's complaints about the series, did her much,
much more better. Then the rest of her two animated selves (ones you mentioned) have been incredible to me.
I can't make up my mind about Anne. Some days I have my doubts, but I really hope she does well because I don't think Catwoman can afford to be ruined again. But I agree she's not the only factor here. I share the concerns about Bale and Nolan as well. I've loved all of Nolan's films however I can't think of any of his female characters that could be used as a gauge for how he'd write Selina.
Sometimes I'm confident that she'll be good, to the point that the film is going to work out, but then other times my doubts start filtering in when I think about the fact that it can either fail or succeed. People make the comparisons with Heath on how he was amazing in the end, but who's to say that the same fortune happens twice? There's nothing concrete to say she's good. Or that she's awful. So like Two-Face's coin, it's left up in the air to see which side it lands on, if you ask me.
