The Dark Knight Rises Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle/Catwoman XI

Afterthought? IF that's what we're getting, it's obvious that it would be an homage to the Catwoman of the 60's TV show. I don't see how intentionally making her look like one of the most iconic interpretations of the character is an afterthought.

According to a source in the prop department on set, the Catwoman suit isnt all it seems to be in the picture and that it "does things." I think that the suit doing things has already been posted here but I wanted to post just in case.

I dont know what he means by "does things"... does that mean it can transform or change its look? Who knows.

Anne already said as much in an interview. I can't figure out what that means unless she can sprout claws or something.

My take:

Better than nothing, I suppose. That's really all I can say for it. It would be really disappointing if Nolan didn't bother giving the one of the most easily adaptable villains in Batman's rogue gallery her classic costume.

love what you did but i really hope we see nothing like this. its too borderline between kind of looking like cat ears and not looking like cat ears. they either need to go full ears or none.

I didn't think that just the sensors would go up on top of her head, but that her entire goggles would be worn up there. With that added padding of the goggles, it could look more like cats ears than just these tiny things sticking up on her head.

And also not only having those tech cat ears, the cat name comes from as Hunter said her being a cat burglar, and having feline type movements with her fighting. And we've been hearing interesting things about her movements and fighting. So I figure that will be just fine to be Catwoman.

It did though, that and her feline movements, is which the initial reason Bob Kane made her that way. You may not like it but her name The Cat later into Catwoman did not originally come from her appearance.

It seems like there is a small second lens over the goggles, so I think it will be a visor to display whatever the sensors are detecting. I could be way off with the final shape and size of the ears but I think it'll be along these lines.

It looks a bit silly because the lights are still on. She'd have no reason for them to be on if she wasn't using them. The manip isn't perfect, but it achieves its purpose in showing you how the goggles could function to have cat ears built onto them. The final product (again... IF this is what we are getting) wouldn't necessarily look like that. The ears might be more pronounced, for example. Again, I'd rather have a cowl, but that looks so much like Newmar/Merriweather/Kitt Catwoman that I wouldn't mind it.

I'm in the same boat, I would like to have a cowl, but if they go for the Newmar so be it. I'm sure the tech goggles if they do go up like that could possibly form more ear looking things. But if they are ears and it gives the look of a cat, the goggles without the tech things do actually look much more cat like then I originally thought which that minap does a good job of showing.

I think we have seen very little of her, and I can't wait to see more, I want ears, I would prefer a cowl, but if they do go for a look that was very iconic back in the Silver Age so be it.

I would hardly consider her first appearance and a few other sporadic instances sprinkled throughout her 70 year history, as some great precedent to the maskless look. Not only is it not remotely approaching the most popular designs (including Newmar), but it literally disappeared with her second appearance.

It's disheartening to know this discussion is even taking place, because at this point we have been forced to accept it and reconcile such an unexpected turn of events.

He didn't say anything about the maskless look. He was talking about her name.

I can't tell you how many times I read statements exactly like this in the old permawhite thread...

Disheartening over a movie costume? , jeez I hate to see your reaction to really bad news ....

I like the idea of the goggles (or at least part of them) flipping up to create the appearance of cat's ears, even though I honestly don't think said ears are a necessity and would be perfectly fine with an 'earless' Catwoman.

I like this a lot. Love the look of the goggles/mask with the lights pulled up like that. Not only does it pull off the "ears" but also gives a nice cat's eye shape to the mask.

Which is directly related to the notion that Catwoman can omit any headgear and it would be accurate to still call her that name.

And it would be nice if this irrelevant subject would stop getting brought up. Furthermore I would bet a huge sum that those who were fervent on permawhite haven't changed their position on the matter regardless of their feelings on the movie or performance -- probably because most of the debate never revolved around the two.

I'm not talking about her appearance I'm talking about her name. That her name derives more then just her look, because originally it did. And not remotely approaching the popular designs, I disagree with that, I remember one of the first things Hunter told me when he saw it was it looked like a High-Tech Newmar, and I do agree with that if the high tech goggles do something similar to the minip. Again I have stated, we have not seen it all yet, and this is from one scene. We are not accepting it, some just see Newmarr in the costume. You don't fine. Some do. I think if the goggles do transform even to that point or further, it is simplistic yes but it does the job of adding more to it, and I would like to see it more on camera.

So again my original statement was about the reason she is called Catwoman is yes her costume, after the fact, but my point is that her name did not derive single-handedly from her costume. And Bat-Mite did get what I was trying to say.

I never said she can omit headgear, I'm talking about the minip made that if those were the cat ear type things which they do look like a high tech version of such, I would be fine with it. And if you read my posts since this all started I said I would prefer a cowl. But I want Cat-Ears. If the goggles do turn into some type of cat ears, with those type of Goggles, and she is a thief and all the other jazz, then yes she is Catwoman. Maybe not the one some want to see, but its Catwoman.

Going by that logic, Halle Berry was also Catwoman.

The little animation of the goggles is a good try, but put me on the side that doesn't like it.

A very odd Catwoman that had very little of the core characteristics, but in terms of her costume, yes she was. Not that many liked it but it was.

I'm saying with the ears, (given the minip if it is true that it does go like that in the film) and the feline type goggles, the rest of the suit her being a thief and all that, yes it would make her Catwoman.

Don't even try to say Berry's costume was Catwoman like in any way. Seriously, just don't.

I think it would be nice if people would stop talking like the sky is falling because we have underwhelming pictures of her from a single scene that probably amounts to a total of five seconds of footage in the actual film. But even though it would be nice, we can't always get what we want, which is why I have no problem reminding people of how many here had egg on their faces when they were saying that the character in the movie was Joker in name only and so forth... which many here stop short of saying about the pictures we've seen, and a few people actually HAVE called her CINO.

It is not irrelevant that people made snap judgments about the Joker based on one aspect of his appearance, and then started singing hosannas about him when they saw the trailer or movie. That movie converted a lot of nonbelievers... I tried to be cautiously optimistic about the Joker, but I still believed he was permawhite somehow because that's how fixated I was on that aspect of the character. I really didn't care afterwards, because the Joker we were given was so mysterious that it just didn't matter to me anymore. Months after that movie had come and gone, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who was still vehemently preaching that bleached skin was so essential to the character, so long as the whiteness was there. Oh, there were a handful still sticking to their guns, but it wasn't the HUUUUGE controversy that it was before the film came out.

History really is repeating itself here, which is why some of us find the situation so amusing.
