I like Brandon Routh alot... but boy, what a step down huh?

From big-screen Superman to Ray Palmer on the 3rd season of the CW's Arrow.

My exact thoughts.

I'm happy he's still getting work, though.

Now just imagine the CW-verse being the same as the cinematic and Atom having a scene with Superman. I know it won't happen, but still, an entertaining thought. :D

I think Routh is probably glad it won't happen. Imagine having to play opposite Henry Cavil as Superman now.

I'm thrilled to have him on the show. Regardless of the opinions on Superman Returns or his performance in it, he's part of the family. Glad to have him back.

:cwink:Let be honest he was not playing Superman he was playing Christopher Reeves playing Superman

Imagine if the others guys who played Bond was forced to play the role exactly like Sean Connery, they will failed like him because he was not allowed to play his version of Superman

haha Brandon Routh, superman from Superman Returns will be the Atom on Arrow!

Well, that's what happens when you take a green actor who probably isn't ready for such a role (beyond bearing a resemblance to Christopher Reeve), and put him in a movie that is less a genuine attempt to reboot a franchise that has been floundering/non-existent for over a decade, and more of a two-hour long video of Bryan Singer blowing kisses at Donner's movie.

I think Routh will do fine as Palmer. He's grown since SR. Though I am surprised they're bringing Palmer into the fold here. The Atom seems so much more Flash-adjacent than Arrow-adjacent.

I don't care about the casting of Routh but I always thought The Atom was a cool character but always under-written IMO (though Miller nailed him in TDKSA).

If we're going to get Ray, hopefully we'll get Jean Loring and then we can have a full-blown Identity Crisis in season 5. I have a definite victim in mind. :oldrazz:

I would prefer they ignore Identity Crisis; I've been trying to forget the comic, and I would prefer not to see it adapted--seeing the awfulness onscreen- let alone have a catalyst for bringing back the horrid memories of reading the comic in the first place.

 you did get Jean Loring she was Moira lawyer during the second season

maybe they may use this as a way to spin off the character

Routh is like warm milk. You don't like it but you still drink it...

I don't know, the only role he stood out in was Pilgrim, other wise he's very cardboard.

His role on Chuck was very good

He is very ''cardboard'', but I like him all the same.

He's not bad at comedy roles... but at this stage, he's better playing to a certain market and he's certainly done that with the role of Ray Palmer.

It does seem like he took a massive step down though. The last time I saw Routh was in a comedy with Sophia Bush. I do wonder what he would think about being in the Justice League with Cavill as Superman and him as the Atom though. This also means they haven't cast Ted Kord.

I think the fact that we're getting Palmer means the rumors of Kord weren't true. I think we're getting Palmer instead of Kord. i could be wrong. we'll probably get Kord later

Career wise this is more of a step up for him now since he already had to step down after Superman taking bit parts in movies.

Routh, huh?

I'm willing to give him a chance. I don't see him as Superman, but that's a point in his favor.

So, will this just be Ray Palmer in name alone? Or will he actually be Ray Palmer/The Atom?

Eh. I've never, ever been impressed with Routh. He looks the part of a movie star but has no personality on camera. If he's meant to serve as any sort of foil to Amell's Ollie, I don't know if he'll be up to it.

Well let's not pretend that Amell is the second coming of Nicholson or anything.

If they do share screentime, I'm sure Routh will be just fine.

It is a matter he will not worry about; Arrow is separate from the filmverse.

The only roles I've seen Routh in besides Superman Returns were in Scott Pilgrim and Chuck, and I liked him a lot in both. I always gave him a break for SR since he was basically giving his best Reeve impression and there wasn't much else I liked about SR. Hopefully, he gets the job done well.

Pretty awesome news. I need season 3 in my life.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's Ray Palmer on Arrow and then The Atom on The Flash. But I'd be fine with either really. First Katana and now Atom. Great stuff.

Giving this show's recent trend of actually having the balls to do comic characters as comic characters (Slade going full Deathstroke, Deadshot getting the overhaul into the character we all love, Stormare playing a more traditional Vertigo than the Count) and the way their playing him as a love interest for Felicity, he's at least going to be some kind of nerd guy.

And with a Flash, and Arrow, and a WayneTech reference alongside FerrisAir, I'm betting he's going to at least experiment repeatedly with size changing technology.
