I have not as of yet watched the latest episode, so perhaps my question is answered there.. but.

Why all this effort to get Oliver elected in the last 2 episodes? Was it not said no one was willing to step up to run for Mayor because they all kept getting killed. To my knowledge he has no competition and he is the only one running Mayor.

Running unopposed just doesn't mean you say you want to be Mayor and you are Mayor. He still has to get people to vote for him.

Running without opponents is not always a guarantee of winning. Many elections require that the winner has not only the most votes of all candidates but a defined fraction of all votes cast, or of the electorate. In this case electors may be able to cast a blank vote, spoil their papers, or abstain from voting, preventing the one candidate from winning and forcing a new election

Also, mayors aren't autocratic rulers. They explained early on that having people actually show up to vote for him will help establish his legitimacy once elected so he can govern more effectively.

It makes him the worst-disguised superhero ever. That being said, I thought it was a good idea to do it for the fifth season (not so sure about the fourth). The added benefit is it happens right when is island facial hair gets all funky too.

Maybe Waller sends him on a mission and he's wearing a prototype outfit he later uses for his Arrow costume. That way we would get him with the beard and in action but not exactly in his Green Arrow outfit.

the actor that playe's diggle ,ramsey said the helmet would do something special prior to this when he first got it. this is them telling us on the matters of how. thought he would asked Ray (another missed opportunity yet again) or terrific.
