I just read about the Arrow subreddit changing to Daredevil. While hilarious, it also kind of breaks my heart that its come to this. WTF has happened to this show? This used to be the standard for superhero television. This was the show that PROVED that you could do a television series about a guy dressing up in tights and fighting crime and have it not be silly and have it be engaging on a narrative level. In fact, if there was no Arrow, I don't think we'd have Daredevil.
But man, the show has just become a chore to watch and so damn repetitive. I mean, on the one hand, I get it, I get that being on the CW means that there are certain....creative stipulations that you have to abide by. There has to be a certain level of romance drama and soap opera BS, but, hey, superhero comics are partly soap operas in of themselves so that's ok. But then I look like other shows on the CW like The 100 and Nikita. Both, absolutely FANTASTIC television shows that continually pushed the envelope and show you do not HAVE to abide by CW-isms (although to be fair, both of those shows got low ratings).
I think I've officially jumped off this ship. I'm not even sure I'm going to watch Flash anymore either (that's a different topic). Legends of Tomorrow is hot and cold with me, when its good it's AWESOME, and when its bad it bores me to sleep. I think honestly, in the wake of Daredevil and Jessica Jones, these Berlanti-CW shows are not for me. These 23 episode, soap opera filled, melodramatic shows are just not for me anymore. If only these shows could: 1) cut down their episode order so that these season arcs aren't dragged out so long 2) cut out the dumb romance melodrama 3) tell more focused stories with zero filler in between--if these things would happen I would come back but I do not see that happening sadly.
Sorry, friends. Rant over. I had to let it out my system.
