Arrow Arrow General Discussion Thread - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Part 28

I still haven't read the Crisis comic yet (next month, probably!), but I do know the Monitor puts the heroes through "tests" at some point, so I've assumed that's what he's doing here.

That cliffhanger ending is getting the attention.

Both the intimate moments and the action were nicely handled. Cassidy did a pretty good job as director.

I just can’t believe Thea would beat Talia in a fight...and she would yield so quickly. The saving grace of the episode was the cliffhanger in an otherwise terrible episode. Cassidy did a great job directing though!

I want to dig the twist, but my immediate first thought was "ugh, now I have to deal with Mia in the present day scenes?!?!" I just cannot stand this character, and while I know the actress has fans, her performance is a big part of why, I'm afraid.

Apparently, Mia will be featured in Crisis. And of course there’s the spinoff series. So in the meantime, she was bound to be a presence in the remaining Arrow episodes - whether in the flashforwards or (as it’s turned out) the present.

IOW, you’re stuck with her. :cwink:

Mia being in the present did actually surprised me but then I remembered that CW is developing a spin off show starring her so the twist wasn't as shocking as before. I'm guessing the Monitor is preparing or testing the newly formed Team Arrow for the Crisis.

Nah, I'm not watching the spin-off series (because of both her AND Dinah), and her scenes, like everyone else's, will be inevitably brief in Crisis, so by the end of January, she'll be but a speck in my rearview. ;)

I liked the episode...and even though Mia is not my favorite by a longshot I didnt hate her as much as normal because they actually let her show a bit of humanity.

One element of this latest episode that I did enjoy and appreciate was adult William in the present; we know that neither Ollie nor Felicity has much to do with William during his upbringing, and this may be why.

I liked how this episode was a combined S2/S3 throwback. Obviously the A plot was S3 with the League, but the Lyla/Digg B plot was directly tied to the S2 Suicide Squad episode. Love how they're working all these throwbacks in.

Didn't enjoy the flash forwards again so I'm glad we probably won't get that now after the ending.

Where was Katie Cassidy? She was listed as a guest star but didn't appear. Was she credited as director?

She was the director of the latest episode.

I know she was director. That's why I asked if she was credited as that. But she was shown in the opening credits as "Special Guest Star: Katie Cassidy", just before Willa Holland, but didn't appear at all. If she wasn't going to appear, why put her name there? They should just credit her as director - hence my question whether she was indeed credited as director.

I’m sure they credited her as the director. Given the fact that I know next to nothing about film/television direction, I thought she did really well since I didn’t notice it was directed by a non-director. It seemed pretty seamless with the other episodes.

I just watched the beginning of the episode again and yes she was credited as director.

Perhaps a contractual thing - whereby she was guaranteed “special guest star” credit in all S8 episodes (whether or not she appeared in all).

Pretty sure Lyla will be leaving the arrowverse post Crisis. That scene between her and Diggle seemed to imply that she knew she wasn't going to be around for much longer..

So next week, is Oliver going to doubt the veracity of Mia being from the future?

Certainly Rene might question their authenticity, especially after hearing that his daughter has just been killed by JJ.

Also, will Diggle think Connor is JJ at first? Won't he wonder why Connor sees Diggle as his father? And won't he be distressed that his own son has turned bad?

Not a surprise. Good that she is back for the finale.

I thought the same. Which is interesting, because Connor implied in S7 that both Digg and Lyla raised him. Not much time for that to happen right now, considering he hasn't even been adopted yet and we're closing in on Crisis.

Glad is Emily is back.
It will be tearful to see Ollie and Felicity ride off into the sunset together to enjoy a peaceful eternal rest.
