So, apparently the CW picked a full season of the show because it had another week of strong ratings for that network. On its premier week it garnered 4.1 million viewers and in its second week (although not as much as the premier) it garnered 3.5 million viewers. These are Smallville numbers, and you know how long that series lasted.

Note that according to Variety, although the show dropped off in viewership it held its target demographic of 18-49-year-old adults (i.e. the people who stopped watching the show were adults over 50), which made it the only new show on the CW to maintain its demographic for the first and second episodes.

If Roy is introduced it will be as Arsenal I imagine, so as not to mix him up with Thea, who could be more like Mia Dearden's Speedy.

I am kind of hoping that somewhere down the road they kill off Thea and introduce Mia who takes up Speedy as a sort of rememberance of Thea.

Full mother****in' season.

Hopefully now iTunes is going to offer a Season Pass.

It deserves the full season. It has some kinks in the show (as there are with any), but a full season can get them worked out.

I hope they don't introduce Roy as a drug addict. I know it's an important story, but I just feel it'll not be very engaging in the show.

And on the subject of mortality, Walter, Diggle and ESPECIALLY Detective Lance are much more likely to bite the dust than Speedy.

I like Roy's intro in the new Green Arrow 0 issue. He was a ****-up, but a smart one and not a drug addict.

Maybe they shouldn't introduce him as such, but with their 'Batman Green Begins Arrow' approach(in terms of their need for the gritty/edginess) I wouldn't be surprised.

They did say they have an idea for Speedy. I have three speculations to what they might plan for him:

1) His sister will become Speedy and join him as a crimefighter. They foreshadowed that in the first episode when he called her Speedy and even more in the second episode where she tells Ollie to "let someone in" on everything that happened. Not to mention that she is currently doing drugs and Speedy did drugs in the comics too.

2) They will introduce Roy Harper eventually and he will become Speedy. This is pretty straightforward but it's the least likely of the three possibilities IMO.

3) There won't necessarily be a Speedy but John Diggle will become some sort of sidekick or ally of Arrow. He may find out Oliver is Arrow down the road and then join him as his partner, and maybe even driver (like Kato), or he will serve as the Alfred-type of ally, meaning he will sit in the background and cover for Oliver whenever he is not around or has to leave a public place to go out as Arrow.

Yes, the creators hinted that they had plans for adapting Roy Harper. But bear in mind that in this show, adapted characters have been drastically changed (e.g. Laurel) and/or had their names changed entirely (e.g. Mia Dearden -> Thea Queen). So, who knows in what shape or form Arrow's Roy Harper will take. For all we know, we might have already been introduced to him.

As for the story potential of Diggle figuring out Ollie's night time activities, remember that he's the latter's bodyguard. Would be interesting if that duty carries on even whilst Ollie is dressed up as Arrow. Perhaps it will be revealed that Digg's was an ex-sniper whilst in the army.

Then, maybe he finds out that Ollie is Arrow but chooses not to reveal it to him; instead secretly watching over him whilst he's out vigilante-ing. Later, during a fight, some villain-of-the-episode sneaks up on Ollie and is about to kill him, then *BOOM* Headshot! Stunned, Ollie looks around but can't see Digg hiding up in his sniper's nest on a nearby rooftop.

At comicon panel Googenheim said she'd become a hero 'not as soon as you'd like but a lot sooner than you'd expect.' and said when you see that you'd go 'oh yeah, I understand that statement now.' that says to me not only does she become BC but they know when it will be. My feeling is it will be first season since first season is all they're guaranteed at this point.

Being a 'hero' is such a vague term though. That could mean her simply doing something heroic. It doesn't mean becoming Black Canary at all. She's far from that now.

I don't want them to kill off Willa Holland off the show.

I hope they do kill Thea and the mother off once they have served their purposes. Green Arrow having a family is great for the origins and Year One, but they serve no purpose in his future.

Smallville made the mistake of having characters stay on way too long beyond their relevance or usefulness, to the show's detriment.

If you get rid of his family, then this really will just be a batman show. :p

I always thought it would be good to introduce Roy as a recovering drug addict when he becomes Arsenal. He and Ollie could form a partnership based on the fact that they are both "damaged," Ollie with PTSD and Roy with overcoming his herioin addiction.

Well Green Arrow didn't need a family in the comics to be awesome. I could understand their ties to his origins but hopefully this show moves beyond that... instead of grounding him to his past for 10 seasons like another show.

I agree Roy should be introduced as either a recovering alcoholic or recovering drug addict. And if they do introduce him and he is going to be Arsenal then they can make Thea the Mia's Speedy.

Which brings me to an interesting question. It all depends on how dark they want to take this, but clearly Thea is leading into a drug and drinking life what if they take Mia's origin a little bit and give it to Thea. While Ollie was gone she got into drugs (we've already seen that) but what if they made it so she also may have slept with the wrong person and got HIV?

Again its all on how dark they want to go and if they will use Thea as Speedy at all

I have no problem with Roy being introduced as Speedy, but that should happen way down the line like Season 3 or 4 if he is made a full-on sidekick. GA is young here and doesn't need to have 'side-kick' just yet. He is only 25, so maybe when he is late 20s at the earliest then they should give him a side-kick either part-time or full.

If they do bring in Roy maybe he can be an ex-military guy at a support group for people with PTSD, but he suffers from alcoholism now. This would bring in the social and moral consciousness for the show for teens and adult dealing with these type of issues. Anywho, Dingle or whatever the bodyguards name is suggests that Ollie go to the meetings to help with his PTSD at the urging of his mother. Dingle also knows or has an idea of Ollie's other life and thinks being around war vets and people with problems will help him confront his demons and possibly turn away from a life of violence that Ollie has yet to open up about. However, Roy and Ollie strike up a friendship and Roy saves Ollie on one of his missions unbeknownst that Roy is GA. He then finds out and keeps his secret, letting him know he has a partner whenever Roy needs, something to that effect.

Well, it didn't take long for Arrow to get a full season order. I thought it would depend on the November Sweeps. Now they may have to push back the season ending and work on the middle of the season. Congrats to the show for that one.

Just watched the UK premiere of the pilot tonight and yeah... I enjoyed it but wasn't jumping out of my seat about it.

- The narration is awful
- Some of the acting is iffy.
- It just screams ''LOOK AT US... we're cool cause we are like Nolan's Batman'. Batman Begins-lite.

But the bits I did enjoy (Mainly Stephen Amell) means I'll definitely stick around for the time being.

6.5/10

I wouldn't really take Thea as the new Mia yet. So I wouldn't count that as a character change.

Female Speedy with drug problem sounds like Mia Dearden to me.

I wonder how long before Syfy gives Booster Gold a pilot order... it being by some of the same people as Arrow, paired with Arrow's great premiere and week 2 numbers and the full season order, I'd have to imagine Syfy would take notice of that.

I'm personally excited about the full season pick up mainly for the sheer amount of characters that can show up, even with the seeming lack of superpowers on the show. Here's a partial list of characters I'd like to see (besides the core Bat-family and the ones already confirmed):

-Count Vertigo
-Shado
-Prometheus
-Clock King
-Cheshire
-Sportsmaster
-The Question
-Maxwell Lord
-Toyman
-Bronze Tiger
-Mr Terrific
-Catman
-Blue Beetle
-Black Spider
-Captain Boomerang
-Calculator
-A plus sized Amanda Waller
-Lady Shiva
-Cupid
-Kobra
-Tigress
-Vigilante
-Slam Bradley
-King Faraday
-Calendar Man
-Katana
-Nemesis
-Rick Flagg
-Wildcat

Plus pre-powered versions of heroes like Hal, Barry, or Ray Palmer.
Any I missed?
