So, apparently the CW picked a full season of the show because it had another week of strong ratings for that network. On its premier week it garnered 4.1 million viewers and in its second week (although not as much as the premier) it garnered 3.5 million viewers. These are Smallville numbers, and you know how long that series lasted.
Note that according to Variety, although the show dropped off in viewership it held its target demographic of 18-49-year-old adults (i.e. the people who stopped watching the show were adults over 50), which made it the only new show on the CW to maintain its demographic for the first and second episodes.
