The Amazing Spider-Man ASM: Stuff You Didn't Like Thread

I wasn't really feelng the whole espionage angle of his parents..i wats waiting for SHIELD to make a cameo...but i know it's in the comics.

My BIGGEST peeve:

The Spider-sense!

I thought the Raimi films did a piss poor job of showing it. The scene in the sewer where the Lizard is right above Spideys head, anyone....

That was the other thing that pissed me off. I understand Spidey getting bloodied up by the Lizard, but having him come home everynight beatup from regular thugs. It was like the writers didn't want him to be super powered, but then they show him performing feats of strength like holding up the car.

He can get bloodied up though and still make incredible feats. That's one of my favorite part of the movie with him coming home beaten up and May being upset, then at the very end coming home with eggs and May giving him a hug. Loved the emotional factor such as how it worries Alfred when he sees Bruce bloodied and bruised.

Uhhhh, what?

Sorry...I was staring at your avvy.

Personally I liked Flash's portrayal in this film much better than just serving the purpose of being one of MJ's many boyfriends in the original. It's clear they are approaching this version with much more to be revealed which is something to build on.

The absence of the Connors family was a huge miss for me. It could have brought more development to Curt. Especially with the lab coat revealing who it was to his wife and kid. Could have been some great scenes there.

Also notice that Peter heals very quickly from his wounds. After a day or two he is fit as a fiddle.

The things I most disliked in this movie were the things I didn't like about the Raimi movies.

The constant self-unmaskings, specifically after the school fight and at the end of the film. I thought the whole point of his first night as a vigilante and Lizzy following him to school was learning how important a secret identity is. Nope, actor needs face time!

The other thing I hated was Peter's reaction to Gwen after she comes to his house, crying about why he wasn't at the funeral and obviously wanting comfort with the only man who knows what really happened that night. At least hold her for God's sake.

Be a human to the girl you supposedly love instead of pulling a Tobey, which is a real dick move.

I think - and I can't tell - but when Peter reaches out to brush Gwen's cheek, she pushes his hand away. I tried to get a better look during my second viewing, but their posturing makes it hard to tell.

EDIT: Also, it's not a "Tobey move," it's a Peter Parker move. He's acted similarly to his love interests in the comics on numerous occasions.

1. I didn't like the fact that gwen knows he's spider-man, in the comics gwen hates spideman and blames him for his fathers death.

2. didn't like the fact that flash just beat the snot out of peter and peter embarrasses him in the gym and peter gets in trouble

3. the development of his powers during the early stages of the origin was very rushed, for example: he literally built the web shooters in 30 seconds. I love the fact he has web shooters but i felt that building them is a huge part and shouldn't be rushed. I felt he should have went out and tested them and failed and come back to fix it.

4. Peter/connors relationship was to under developed.

5. some of the dialogue was really out of place

6. the guy that operated the cranes towards the end to help spider-man was a little cheesy, though it was cool

7. the fact that spider-man was shot in the leg, limps for 5 minutes, then all of a sudden is better when he webs up the wound.

8. no martha and billy, i felt that they would play a huge part like they did in "the spectacular spider-man series"

9. Dr. Ratha, I felt that his character was extremely unnecessary. Can someone please explain to me the point of his character? The last we really saw of him was the bridge scene, i didn't really understand his point in this movie.

10. Peter's Parents, most of the trailers said "spider-man's greatest secrets revealed", i didn't really think they explained much about his parents, just showed them in the beginning or really reveal his "greatest secrets" for that matter

11. Lack of scenes that were shown in trailers and previous clips. there were a lot of little clips in trailers and footage that was released that wasn't in the movie, some of them i was looking forward to seeing. maybe a directors cut?

12. It didn't explain the lizards reason for doing what he did, Connors personality was very under developed.

13. I DID LIKE however the fact that flash had a spider-man shirt on at the end of the movie, Thats something I love. the fact that he makes fun of peter, etc. But he loves spider-man.

14. Uncle ben was obviously a good man and I think Martin did a good job with what he was given, i didn't really feel the fact that his uncles death was a big part of him becoming spider-man.

15. the vigilante suit that peter makes ( the red mask with sunglasses and a beanie), I really loved the fact that he made something like this before he makes the suit but this was another thing I felt was rushed.

16. Rushed scenes, if you notice in the beginning, most of the scenes are only 30 seconds-2 minutes

17. No stopping petty crimes, i would love it more than anything to see spider-man just take down a bunch of criminals, like small robberys etc.

18. The car thief scene were the cop shoots at spider-man from point blank range a couple times and doesn't hit him, makes no sense to me.

19. Peter loses interest in his father's work halfway through the movie, I thought the fact that he's spider-man would help him find more clues.

20. One big thing everyone said about this movie, is peter would be more witty and pitch more wisecracks, i felt this would be a really funny thing with spidey vs. lizard, pitch a couple lizzy wisecracks but something i felt spiderman really lacked. Only wisecracks I recall is with the car theif.

21. peter was very introverted, even after uncle ben tells him "if you have the power to help someone, its your obligation"

I did infact like the lizard's look, at first i was skeptical about it, even though he lacked a labcoat throughout most of the movie. Hey, can never please comic book fans right? aha

I like the fact that the mysterious figured popped up at the end, there are so many possibilities or routes they can take for a sequel, no origin next movie, more time to focus on other things. My guess on who the mysterious figure is possibly Quinton beck? Maybe he works for oscorp? he seemed to disappear and appear out of the jail cell so you never know, even though the mysterious figure was not confirmed to be Norman osborn yet, you never know.

I would personally like to see Mysterio or kraven next, and of course Green Goblin, Bring on the death of gwen stacy ah!

This pretty much sums up why I didnt like this movie. I'm sorry folks
this was just a terrible movie. Peter parker skateboarding ...WTF REALLY

How much emphasis was put on the father and how much he cared for his son. The guy's acting was just kinda cheesy to me. Especially when he had the picture on the computer monitor. "Hey, that's the guy who saved my son!" *same shot of son's picture* I found that kind of funny. Not to mention him saying "My son..." a little too many times on the bridge scene. I get it, he's your son. One would have been enough to convey that.

Oh, and Peter having the "Property of Peter Parker" in bold white letters on his camera when he took it to the sewers. That was stupid. They show off this kid's genius yet he does a stupid thing like that? I mean, if I know this guy and he wants to cause destruction, I'm not gonna bring my name label with me. They could have done some other way of him finding out his identity.

  • Aunt May being largely absent
  • Peter's motivation for being Spidey isn't very clear
  • Like Tobey, Andrew can't keep his damn mask on
  • Since when is Peter Parker a skateboarding hipster?

It's to keep the humanity and to see the actors emote in these final emotional scenes. You can't have the same impact with them on. If Raimi wasn't able to do it, neither could Webb. They both saw that you can't get to the emotion with the mask on. I mean imagine the final scene between Peter and Stacy with it on? The look on Peter's face when Stacy asks him to promise that he won't get involved with Gwen was fantastic acting. I can't get that with a flat face with big eyes staring at me. Why do you think the snout was gone from the Lizard? To see the actors face emote more. Now it was kind of for naught since all the Lizard said was "Peter Parker" or cliched villain dialogue but the idea and intention is always there. Same with Peter.

I just had nitpicks in this film:

*Those weird piano keys when Lizard was roaming Oscorp tower, with Gwen hiding.

*Also, I didn't get that scene, so Lizard finds her, she blasts him with fire or something, but he just takes the machine she was hiding and leaves her?

*I absolutely hated how Lizard found out Spiderman was Peter Parker from his name being on the camera

*Also I know it's true to the comics but personally I prefer organic webbing over the mechanical ones.

Yeah, I wasn't even thinking that they were mechanic. When they are in action, they're just webs that shoot out of his wrists. It has no effect on the quality of the character at all. Yes it says he smart for making them, but he was also stupid in putting his damn name on the camera.

To elaborate on this a bit... In the comics, Spider-Man's face changes to show his emotions. It contorts, his eyes changes both size and shape. You can't do that with live action without it looking very strange and corny. Also, the other reason heroes in every comic book movie I can think of takes their mask off at some point, is to be sure and show that the actor is really in the suit. Some films, like Batman, don't require it as much because you can still see the actor's eyes and mouth.

Yay for reasoning regarding this topic. :o And please people, don't give me the V For Vendetta crap. Spider-Man is good natured human being through and through whose face demands to be seen in an emotional moment and can take off his masked becaus he needs to. V is an anarchist terrorist whose whole character is meant not to make his face or identity known.

I was fine with the skate boarding. I think it showed that Peter had a propensity for physicality and a little bit of a dare devil attitude

But wasn't Parker always described as being an 'uncoordinated' bookworm before the bite? His lack of a propensity for physicality was what made the transformation so severe. He was someone who had dedicated himself purely to intellectual development, and then overnight gains superhuman physical ability... it's a nerd's greatest (amazing) fantasy.

He had to be cold, if he had showed warmth towards Gwen at the moment it would've defeated the purpose.

I'm sorry but you and your friend suffer from obsessive nitpicking.

Hardly any of those issues hurt the movie's overall quality.

Kids tend to steal in school, that's probably why he had his name on it. Peter probably didn't think to remove it because he's just absent-minded, which has been a problem of his for a while. Doesn't mean he's not intelligent.

Screw that emotion BS. If he's in costume, keep the mask on :argh:

See my post.

Bingo.

I'd like to see just one Spider-Man movie try to get Peter to emote through the mask.

Okay, So I went to the premiere late at night and I just got back from seeing it a second time and now I understand a lot of things I didn't get before. I honestly think now that I understand the story a little better, I think they did a spectacular Job, Excellent Casting choices, though some things were a little under written. I no longer have anything really bad to say about this movie, so I take back what I said before now that I understand it better.

I don't know why they never do that thing where he lifts his mask just to his nose and talks.

Didn't like the news reporter commentary about Spidey being injured and he might not make it...so Raimi!
