Man, they are sh***ing on Thor hard lately.

You'd think that more recent media exposure would guarantee him a better showing in the yearly events but apparently that is not the case. I have no real hope for him having any kind of come back in this piece of crap story.
Or, given the proposed WoW look with swords and leatherette* miniskirt, any time within the foreseeable future.

*I'm guessing. Could be velour. **** regardless.

Dear Odin

Please let Franklin Richards be the one who kills Emma. If you let this happen I will sacrifice a Frost Giant in your name.

In Kirby's Name

Amen.

:ff: :ff: :ff:

I would like to see Thor be the one that puts down a crazed Phoenix-ed up Emma, to make up for the series of ass whooping's he's been handed lately.

Unfortunately, it seems like Scott is going to come back to his senses and be the one that puts her down with a ghosted image of Jean Grey death scene #1 along side it for dramatic effect.

Maybe Marvel surprises me and Jean Grey comes back to put Emma in her place, who knows? But then again, this is Marvel and the only thing they ever surprise me with anymore is how they gradually get worse with connecting with their audience.

My thing with AvX is that I'm actually excited about it, but I feel guilty because the more I think about AvX the less defensible it is. I didn't like AvX till I saw the X-Men get the Phoenix. That was way out of left field and I thought I should read it a bit more closely. The September solicits showing Scott and Emma fighting with the tag "Fatality!" really made me jump since Emma is one of my faves. All in all, the series has kept my interest pretty well for 8 bucks a month. Which is about what I can ask for.

I was excited too, but I wanted the Phoenix to jump into Hop directly. This Phoenix Five business just seems like a stall. This could have been 6 issues long.

It certainly seems like a stall. The only thing their doing now is showing the general perception of the X-Men to be favorable and the Avengers not so much. All while building up to the grand finale brawl that's seemingly going to take place over the course of 3 issues.

You know you''re wrong for this. :)

I have to protect Emma's honor. She's a great character and I don't want anything to happen to her. I want her to play Prof X to the young X-men!

But I'm holding out for Emma this event. I'm thinking Scott's gonna snap.

But I do understand the need to see Thor smash someone. Maybe he should beat every Phoenixed-up X person with one hammer hit? That would be a great splash page. I feel bad for Thor man.

I'm sure they're just kicking Thor's ass to make the Phoenix seem that much more of a threat, since He struck down the big bads of the previous 2 events.

But man, it's getting pretty sad

There's other way to make the Phoenix look like a huge threat without making Thor look so weak. They could have had him knocked out in the first Phoenix encounter and putting him on the sidelined injured instead of the constant beat downs. Then it can build to the ending when he get's back in the fight and serves as the edge needed for the Avengers to win. Just my opinion.....

True,
Not saying there aren't better ways,
Just saying that was probably the writers' thought process, flawed as it was

I'd have preferred a Phoenix'd up Exodus/Legion/some other powerful mutant vs Sentry. Dead serious, I miss Bob :(

I think you are the only one.

Why the heck hasnt the Void emerged in Cyclops with him now posessing the PF? I think the writers forgot about that bc that should be a deadly combination

That was a lousy idea to begin with. Fraction put the idea in limbo when Scott locked it deep down in his mind. If the Void comes back now and merges with the Phoenix to create a Phoevoidix, that would look and be just as terrible as the 50ft tall Robo-Skull from Cap Reborn.

I must admit... Spoons is not alone. I also miss Bob :(

Granted though, I did just finish rereading the original Sentry mini which was WAY better than any of the Bendis stuff, but still... I miss him.

Are you talking about the Paul Jenkins/Jae Lee book? That was crazy good. Jenkins and Lee was an amazing team. Inhumans is a classic! The Bendis stuff was okay. I never liked having Sentry in the mainstream Marvel comics. I'm kinda happy they got rid of him really. Besides, Sentry would just get jobbed to the Phoenix as well.

The rest of AvX will most likely be the Avengers running around like headless chickens while the X-men figure out ways to come dangerously close to debasing themselves-- except for Cyclops who may get let of the hook, and Colossus, who isn't really doing much of anything.

I guess you can see this event as either the X-Men doing their thing, fighting to save the world while being woefully misunderstood; or as the Avengers doing their thing, fighting some awesomely powerful cosmic forces and winning at the last minute like seasoned pros. I can see the appeal of the series, but I think all this does is leave two sets of fans upset at what they perceive to be the mistreatment of their favorite characters.

And let me also say, I really love the shipping frequency of the comic. It is helping a long event feel shorter than it really is, and it papers over some weak editing in parts.

The repetition of Thor's getting his ass kicked, as Havok said, is what really bugs me. He fought the Phoenix, what, 3 times in Secret Avengers and nearly got killed each time? Then he gets b****-slapped back to the moon as the sign that the Phoenix has finally arrived near Earth. Then he gets his ass kicked by Rachel and Emma. About the only thing he's actually been any use against so far is that one teenager he punched in the gut during the Avengers' smash-&-grab on Utopia. Which was out of character and stupid anyway. And then the next issue literally comes right out and says that the Scarlet Witch is the only thing that can even approach the Phoenix Five's powers. Really? The guy who killed the Void and the Serpent while all the other heroes were losing their s*** with fear in previous events, who's punched a hole in the armor of a Celestial, who's fought the Silver Surfer to a standstill numerous times, who's caused (an admittedly hungry) Galactus to turn tail and run in fear can't even contend with just 1/5th of the Phoenix's power? That's either flat-out pathetic or a massive, massive overestimation of the Phoenix's power on Bendis' part.

Either way, it sucks for the same reason the Hulk/Thor rivalry has sucked in the past: it's consistent to the point of boredom. What use is a 'rivalry' if one party always wins? In the context of this event, it basically just means we're waiting for the next blatant plot device to show up. If the Avengers' heaviest hitter can't even put a dent in the Phoenix-powered X-Men, the story just coasts along until the Avengers discover some magical other macguffin that can--in this case, the Scarlet Witch, although the implication seems to be that even she'd be overwhelmed by all of the Phoenix Five working together. Which, of course, means we're now waiting for another magical plot device to present itself specifically to deal with the Phoenix Five and then probably never be heard of again. Which is boring.

...Or the in-fighting amongst the Phoenix Five (god, I reeally hate that name) gives Wanda the opening she needs to beat them...

True, Namor's pulling a Sarah Palin as we speak. I'm waiting for the first cries of racism over a white(-ish) character destroying the previously unconquerable Wakanda to start up. ;)

Plus Russian Magik putting All-American Ms. Marvel in a Gulag-esque Limbo prison...
The X-Men are dirty commies!!

Makes sense, given that the Avengers are goose-stepping fascists for this event.

Even for you, Spoons? You usually have... let's call it a much higher tolerance for character wackiness than most of us. ;)

you forgot he also got beat on by Namor

Ha, yeah. This is not entertaining in the slightest. Not to mention the X-verse is due for some less-than-thrilling shakeups after this event is done.

The only thing that could salvage this is if Ares comes back and murders everybody(with Phobos of course)
