Avengers vs. X-Men: 2012 Event - Part 2

I haven't even read the issue and I know when it's in my hands I plan to find some sort of semi-automatic weapon and destroy it.

Marvel is literally killing it's books and characters lately.

I have mixed feelings about this issue.

I can't really knock Bendis because his delivery and that of Coipel's was outstanding. This felt like a big event book actually worth the money. BMB's opening dialogue with Cap's speech to Hulk was top notch stuff, although later on he sounded like a ****** threatening to arrest Scott. I don't know why but that always bugs me when writers have Cap talk like that. It's a small gripe and I'm not gonna kill them over it.

I'm still not happy about the bastardization of Scott Summers. Clearly he has to die now but based on the early previews of Uncanny Avengers #1, he becomes a vegetable until they can rehabilitate the character.

Speaking of the Avengers, now we see how Banner ends up with the team again in Hickman's book. This issue filled in a lot of info leading to NOW.

Xavier is a cheap death as far as I'm concerned. His little speech to Scott didn't really change my feelings on that. I don't particularly care when they kill off a character that's been underused for a long time, i.e. see Nightcrawler in Second Coming. It's like they'd rather kill them off for a cheap moment because they have no idea what to do with them the rest of the time.

I'm looking forward to the conclusion.

I just heard about the death of a certain character. I guess I can take comfort in knowing that he's in a better place.

No, really. Any place that has Nightcrawler, Banshee, Moira, Synch, Jean, and Forge sounds better than what's currently in the X-Men books.

The character of Cyclops will never be the same again. He'll never be able to live it down. Instead of being remembered as the man who was a good leader through the roughest part of mutant history, he's going to be known as a murderer. He basically assassinated the mutant's Martin Luther King Jr figure. After seeing everything they put X-characters through, maybe I'm ok with realJean staying dead, and young Cyclops being brought to the present... ughh.

Even Magneto never got that far, as crazy as he got.

When I first read the issue, I didnt even read it as him being dead as it wasnt confirmed in the book. I thought it was another just seemingly dead like the end of [blackout]Messiah Complex[/blackout] with him being revealed to be alive in a future book. Guess the writer's interview contradicts that

Wow, just read UXM 18 and it explains why Scott went crazy and flipped out on Emma. She told him that she thought of having an affair with Namor and actually had sex with him telepathically. Thats what caused him to turn on her and take her out, leading to him losing control and and what happens towards the end of AvX 11. That seems like such an important detail that the main issue doesnt touch. I guess in the end, once again, its Emma's fault, an X-man, goes all Dark Phoenix

Crap, you're right...

I guess everyone was right when they thought she was darkening Scott

I'd buy that book

I remember when Emma murdered her own sister in Generation X.

Haha, the irony of Emma Frost's whole existence. She dresses like a ho, yet she's probably banged more dudes mentally than she has physically.

Y'know... Scott's my fav, and I actually didn't balk when he became all quasi-evil. Hey, stuff happens. He's dead inside, I can work with that.

What they've done with him in AvX is another level. They're not developing him into a villain, they're developing him into a hated hero. That's bad, it makes the whole event a little less compelling because you know he has to die now, basically. He has to absolutely lose and be completely wrong.

I have a lot of theories on why this is, in tandem with Wolverine becoming a fine upstanding responsible role model. Something about rebelling against authority and consequences, and Scott represents that demanding authority. We don't like that, so we characterize it as inept for many years and then simply villify it. Sad. Scott's still my favorite X-man. I don't know who this guy is anymore, he lacks... conviction.

Emma was arrested and taken into custody in the latest New Avengers, showing no remorse or regret for her actions during AvX. I hope this leads to her going back ot being a villian in Now. If ever there was a chance for that to happen again, now is the the time

Emma is the only one out of all of them, even Namor, who probably didn't even need the Phoenix influence to do some of the **** she's done.

Is anyone else irritated as much as me by Rogue's "ah"s and "ah'm"s... because I don't understand why they have to make all her "I"s into "ah"s and I can't stand it! When I read Rogue's dialogue, I read it in the voice of the 90s TAS so it's already in that accent. The "ah"s just make me stop momentarily at that word and disrupts the flow of my reading.

I never really notice

Lol I'd put Illyana there too. She's pretty f'd up. Colossus was probably the most extreme out of them all but even then he's shown evidence of acting like this pre-Phoenix. The worst he's done was on that issue of WatX where he came for Kitty but that was reminiscent of him spazzing out when he came for her in Excalibur and nearly killed Wisdom bc he was jealous

Beating up Pete Wisdom wasn't even the worst thing Colossus has done.

Colossus murdered marauder Riptide during the Mutant Massacre. He snapped his neck.

Its easier keeping track of X-Men who have murdered people than those that have not these days.

I'm glad at what has happened to Scott. When they did it to Bishop, nobody cared but me. Glad it's affecting most people's fave now.

I await the X-Men event of 2020 where Doop goes evil and kills Beast :oldrazz:

I like it, it's very Claremont-esque. His dialogue varied from godawful to classic, but his trademark has always been phonetics when people have accents. If somebody is from the south or they're from Scotland, you're gonna know it every ****ing time they talk.

I'm still bitter about Bishop too. I'm hoping it was a Skrull in Cable's book.
