Batman: Arkham Origins - Part 7

One of the biggest problems with Arkham City apart from essentially being one long series of Fed-Ex quests for the Joker, was that the big bad reveal of Ra's Al Ghul served no purpose whatsoever.

The man behind the man reveal can be effectively done, provided it takes place before the climax. It usually serves to heighten the conflict, as well as being a shocking revelation that adds depth to the story. Ra's Al Ghul's reveal was both pretty dang obvious, and completely pointless because he dies about 30 seconds after his reveal anyway, with no greater stakes achieved or thematic points made. It is quite literally "No I'm the real badguy! Mwahahahaha-EGH!" *dies*.

I finally beat the main campaign...and boy did I love it! The story was more engaging that both City and Asylum, in my opinion. Tons of fun! Now I need to get the skins pack for all the other challenges and stuff.

So, apparently there's supposed to be trophies for the Initiation Challenge maps? But, there aren't any additional trophies appearing. They were supposed to be patched a couple days ago, but still...nada.

Finished the main story and all the side missions. Still have some Dark Knight challenges, I'm on Level 15 of the first two and level 5 of the stealth stuff, didn't start focusing on that early enough. So still have two playthroughs and the challenge maps to get through.

R'as's reveal undercut the menace of Strange. I wish they had kept the League's presence to financing/supplying/helping Strange, but no further. There was a great dramatic moment when Batman slams Strange's head against the window, and Strange expresses his pleasure in the destruction. They should have had him enable the self-destruct sequence just after that. Instead, they pushed Batman's mercy to a nearly unrealistic degree: worrying about Strange's health when the man just executed thousands upon thousands of people. To make this situation even worse, they had Batman play games with the Joker who was dying and could have been saved (and had far less blood on his hands than Strange,) yet, Batman let him die, instead.

It made for a great image - connecting to the Cain portrait in the beginning-but, when the implications are exampled, the ending starts to fall apart.

I might need to replay it, but wasn't the problem that Batman had to save himself over the Joker?

And it's not like Batman let him die. He did say that he was going to cure the Joker, but the clown stabbed Bats and made him drop the cure.

I am starting to question my recollection of the ending. I'll check the cutscenes on YouTube, after I finish this essay. You're probably right and my memory of the game deteriorated.

I tried multiplayer for the first time today and this thing is so much fun. It reminds me a lot of Star Wars: Battlefield and I wish that I could play it offline. I wish there were more teams to choose from. Playing Bane is so much fun.

star wars battle field???? You mean "front" right? umm what part of it reminded you of that BTW? Cause in that game of star wars Battle front you fallowed the main AI character such as darth Vader and battled at his side as opposed to playing as them.

The only game Dc entertainment made that's like battle front is DCUO.

Yes, Battlefront. Thank you for the correction. The ability to earn playing as the leader (Bane or Joker) is very similar to earning the ability to play a Jedi or Sith (or any major fighter from the movies, really). It's pretty exciting getting that opportunity pop up on the screen and getting to play someone who isn't a grunt. That and the simplified gameplay and over the shoulder camera gave me flashbacks to playing Battlefront on the PS2. They're both ridiculously simple and fun to play. I just wish there were more teams and characters to earn the right to play (the Battlefront games had a plethora of characters).

Also, how was DCUO anything like Battlefront? When did we get to play a DC character?

uummm, Ok, I'll make this short. DCUO is the same in game play as star wars: Battle front In that while your playing, you meet up with all the heroes and villains (playing as a hero or villain your self ) of that universe and they send you on case's or crimes ( it's detective comic's, but they're what missions are called in it ) for them and in some instance's you fight along side some one like superman, batman Etc and other heroes of the universe. Basically all of them in it.

That's how they are both the same in that very regard.

Now as for playing as them you can be come batman, super man or wonder woman and play as members of each of their family's like their side kicks and team mates since lanterns have their own characters there in a special PVP match set up mode called legends play. you can play as their enemies too.

And they are adding both flash and Green arrows too some time eventually in one of the updates but they haven't stated fully as to when.

an example this

Oh PVP! I forgot all about that. You're right. I do feel like the multiplayer for Arkham Origins takes a lot from Battlefront and that's only a good thing since that's an awesome series of games. Now that you have mentioned DCUO's PVP, it does seem like elements of that were integrated into this as well.

yep and DCUO did that first not in the same way AO did but they did it first. ok so I have to stear it back to origins before some one freaks on me .

so who do you think the master will send on batman for story DLC in origins ? this is a general question.

There was a patch today when I turned on my PS3 and I think it was just to add a new mode to online mode since I still have a glitched Black Mask container problem.

The new mode is "Hunter, Hunted." It is 3 Jokers Elite vs 3 Bane Elite vs Batman (No Robin so only 7 people needed to start). Everyone gets ONE life. Either you defeat everyone on the opposing teams or the Elites capture 2/3 control points. I don't think the control points are capturable right away and take a minute to become active in the match.

I enjoyed the couple of matches I played. I won my first match after it was me as the last Bane elite against the last Joker elite. We were both pinned down, about 25 ft apart from one another. I tried using a UAV, but it was shot down. I remembered I had that shockwave weapon as my other secondary and made a break for the other side of my opponents cover and activated it winning my team the match.

Next I got to play as Batman, which is a real rush. I looked for the guy who broke off from the pack and take him out with ease. I do the same with the someone from the opposite team. I observe the two elites facing each other and are both locked down. A Joker is taken out and I decided to help even the odds by going after the Bane elites. I sneak up behind both who are using a hallway for cover and throw a smoke grenade to blind both of them. I take out the first one, but the second rolls away before I get a chance to finish him off. I retreat and let the Joker finish him for me. At this point it is just me and the remaining Joker. He spots me swinging around the air and is shooting at me and dealing minor damage. I notice he is right by a gargoyle so I swing over there and do a pounce attack and Batman wins the game. If you win as Batman you get to stay on as Batman which is really nice.

Unfortunately I lost connection after that match and went on a losing streak right after.

Hey everyone,

I'm kinda late to the party lol, and I just started playing the game, and I'm having lag issues sometimes with the gameplay and cutscenes and dialogue as well as stuttering in the sound particularly in dialogue.

What's the solution to fix these issues? I've pretty much tried a lot of stuff already.

These are my specs for my PC:

What should I do?

I played it and loved it for the most part. Like many, I found it slightly disappointing when compared to Arkham City. It does all the same things AC, but it lacks the immediacy and fun. While AC's premise is absurd (turning miles of downtown prime real estate of a major city as a prison for criminals and convicts to run amok in unsupervised), it felt like a real living breathing area, at least for most of the game (until you finish it). In AO, despite being more of "Gotham," it feels kind of dead and empty, with the "It's Christmas Eve" excuse being pretty thin. Also, after having multiple missions intertwine between Batman and Catwoman in AC, playing as only the Bat feels a bit limiting in AO.

Still, AO probably has the best story. Bane is entirely reflective of the positive influence the Nolan movies have had, and I'm all for it. Bane is now Joker's equals in many peoples' minds and in this game as well. Batman and Joker's relationship is great, especially when the Joker tries to kill himself just to test old Batty. And unlike AC or AA twists, it all makes relative sense (as much as this kind of story can). Still, the rogue's gallery is pretty bland aside from Joker and Bane, both of which who appeared before. While the boss fight with Deathstroke is fun and intense, the character, along with Viper or Copperhead or whatever she's called, Shiva and the rest are surely no Ra's Al Ghul, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, Harley Quinn, Penguin, Clayface, etc.

I still miss Conroy, but the replacement they got for Hamill is almost as good.

With all that said....

Anybody who played the costume from the 1960s show?

How about a Batman game based on the 1960s series! I know it would never get the massive budget necessary to do it justice, but just as they were releasing Godfather, Scarface and even From Russia With Love games last generation, an Adam West based Batman game with all the camp and humor would be awesome! I am just saying.

I think I might like the new guy more than Conroy, actually. In fact I liked all of this game so much that I think Rocksteady has quite a job ahead of them to top it. The writing was better, the boss battles were phenomenal, and there was much more variety in the side missions. Plus it was nice to see the Batman rogues who weren't big names (especially Firefly, Deadshot, Lady Shiva, and Deathstroke). Rocksteady is the better company on a technical scale and I'm sure that they will build off of this and make something even greater, but I feel like the bar has been raised if only ever so slightly.

I'm actually going to miss this guy as Batman once Conroy is back...And I'm going to miss that awesome cowl and suit too. I really hope that Origins gets a sequel so we can see the first meeting with other villains like Killer Moth, Poison Ivy, and Clayface, and even the first appearances of Robin and Batgirl. A Dick Grayson-centric game would be fantastic (or even a separate game about Batman's sidekicks. A multiplayer game so the Batman nuts aren't complaining that sidekicks are infringing on their super lonesome hero).

Everthing I agree with to a degree except for the multi player. A similar but optional seperate to the main story campaign Co-op mode will be double for them . And no one can say they are taking away from a focused story if done that way and the dev's won't have an excuse not to do more there and keep the main focus there ether.

though the real issue with what was done with Arkham origins was that they had a short Development time. Shorter then most and they were too worried about complaints if they pushed back. They did test this thing but they called the test clear of bug's and issues ways too early and they told the people of EPD.TV/ROTR this after throwing party that week just before Tokyo game show took place in a pod cast and it cost them in that unexpected bugs and issues showed after launch, that have been hard for them to Fix since and half the fan base doesn't trust them now cause of the short dev period and that they weren't cautious enough with it.

I hope they don't do this bi yearly like assassin's creed by fallowing the COD model. not every dev studio or publish can pull it off. they need to take their time.

other wise what you said is fine.

I absolutely agree. While the game itself is great, the amount of bugs in this are ridiculous. I'm working on the Riddler side mission again because the file corrupted. Good thing the story is good or sitting through it three times would have been a pain.

I still love this game. I agree that for the most part it's the same as Arkham City but I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing as Arkham City was fantastic. I love the Christmas eve setting, the music, tone etc. and I think that Christmas eve and moreso the fact that there's a snowstorm are fine excuses for the city being abandoned. You can tell there were warnings about this storm from notices around the city/the police announcements and it's standard procedure for a curfew/evacuation to be in affect in these situations, so it makes sense.

As for technical issues. I'm on PS3 and initially there were a few noticeable lag/framerate issues but the patches fixed all that and the game has been running perfect since then so I guess I've been lucky.
