One of the biggest problems with Arkham City apart from essentially being one long series of Fed-Ex quests for the Joker, was that the big bad reveal of Ra's Al Ghul served no purpose whatsoever.
The man behind the man reveal can be effectively done, provided it takes place before the climax. It usually serves to heighten the conflict, as well as being a shocking revelation that adds depth to the story. Ra's Al Ghul's reveal was both pretty dang obvious, and completely pointless because he dies about 30 seconds after his reveal anyway, with no greater stakes achieved or thematic points made. It is quite literally "No I'm the real badguy! Mwahahahaha-EGH!" *dies*.
