Since, Batman is now on the run and I seem to remember Batman having to go in jail for a time to find a riddle from the Riddler. What do you think? Would be kind of fun idea like Batman has to give himself in to beat the bad guy.

That might be pushing the bounds of realism even for a comic book movie. How could Batman go to jail without being unmasked?

It's not worse or could be worse than Parker taking off his mask in Spidey 2.

But Parker is a nobody. You can accept that nobody on that train would recognize him. He's just one of a million teenagers in New York.

Bruce Wayne is a famous billionaire.

Yeah I agree, Bruce Wayne is a celebrity in Gotham, wouldn't work.

Remember the Scarecrow episode, Dreams in Darkness, in BTAS? Batman was in Arkham, and they kept his mask on because they believed it was a part of his psychosis, and thought removing it could send him into a catatonic state or something like that.

That worked, IMO. But there's no reason for him not be unmasked in a regular jail.

I wouldn't mind seeing Batman in jail at one point. But not as a long term thing, maybe one night. Kinda like Joker in TDK. They just took him down, and they didn't even bother to remove his make up. They would eventusally removve his mask, but maybe Batman already escaped at that point...

Or maybe he's breaking INTO the jail. That way you get the environment, but without the hassle of Bats getting arrested.

That'd be a good idea, but, imo, nothing would tear an audience down than Batman, beaten and bleeding, being cuffed and arrested by corrupt cops. A great scene would be them taking him to the jail-cell, kinda like the one from TDK, and all the cops and criminals spitting and cursing at him. The ultimate repurcussion for what he did at the end of TDK.

That would destroy any realism that the other movies built up. There is no way he could be taken to jail and not be unmasked.

While I do agree with this, remember, Joker's make-up wasn't removed when he was taken in. Plus, Batman might not be in there long enough for them to be able to do that.

Also I don't think Gordon ever wanna know Bruce is Batman.

Even then, I thought they were stretching it. Psychosis or no, if someone had Batman locked up in an asylum the first thing they'd do is shoot him up with a sedative and take off his mask.

Removing makeup is one thing....removing a face mask is another. There are mug shots of people with strange makeup still on them...but the police wouldn't leave a rubber/metal face mask on someone they were putting into as cell. Just from what they have seen him do while fighting criminals, they would know that they would have to remove all of his suit due to the things he has hidden in it.

Good point.

I still would like to see him in that jail-cell, though I totally agree with what you just wrote.

I dont' see it working unless it was part of a more complex plot where a villain is demanding he turns himself in (or else blah blah blah evil plot), and we think he is actually going to do it, but then when he's unmasked by the police it's actually one of the copycat Batmen. There would still be the problem of him not having the right suit though. That was kind of already done in The Dark Knight though with Harvey Dent so I don't think it would be a good idea either.

Bruce Wayne in jail (ala BB and BW:Murderer) works.

Batman being arrested, unmasked and thrown in jail completely destroys the mystique.

Doesnt work.

Doppleganger Batman so he's unmasked and it's not Bruce (as a silly thought). ;)

In jail? No way... Reminds me of Michael Myers, an unstoppable force of evil, in jail, in Halloween 5. Disgusting...

I am beside myself with hatred for this idea. No. No no no no. No.

you know, at first i thought this idea was weak on the basis that, as everyone has said, batman's not going to jail without being unmasked.

However, there is that electrical defense that he has in his mask, as shown in TDK. who's to say he dosent have more complicated defense systems, that would surely take a while to figure out....long enough that he breaks out in the meantime? If you could make it work that way, then maybe you have something...

I was thinking the same thing. The cops would attempt it, after taking the belt, cape, and gaunlets off, but would get "shocked" when they tried to take the mask off.

Yeh with the whole make up /mask thing- when you are arrested wearing a disguise, they photograph you with and without it on. so they would leave the make up on, until you were photographed, then wash it off and take another picture. with the mask, they would remove it, and just make you put it back on for the picture. look up the cow lady, or that dumb**** kid who got arrested stealing tdk poster while in full joker makeup.

yeah i was actually thinking the cops being shocked while trying to take the mask off. But, I think a lot of the cops would be suspicious of Batman allowing himself to be caught, I mean they know he could escape at any time so maybe, they're just keeping him in jail until they can find out what they can do with him. Because they're scared.

If he could escape at any time he simply wouldn't be there. If he needed to be there for some reason, I think he would break in d his thing and then be gone by the time anyone realises.

I think part of the reason I dislike the idea so much is because it would mar the mythology of Batman. This is a guy who is like smoke - Gordon can't even blink and he's vanished... 'He does that.' He'd have to be pretty sloppy for them to catch him. Sloppy for his standards, anyway.

Now a film about him running from the police while still trying to help the people of Gotham, now that'd be great. Look how well it worked at the end of TDK, having people trying from both sides to do him in. I'd love it in the next film if we get an action sequence like in Mask of the Phantasm where the police have him surrounded in a building and he barely manages to escape, injuring himself in the process, absolutely ALWAYS refusing to give up.

It'd be so DULL having him in prison.

Scene 1: Batman sat on his bunk.

Scene 2: Batman sat on the toilet in the corner.

Scene 3: Action scene - 'Bend over, Batfu**.' ... 'Do I look like a bit**?!' *kicks big bald ladyboy in balls*

No. NO! Not to my liking at all.
