I both like and hate that this thread exists.
Like it because it concentrates all the Batman will die nonsense/******** into one thread, thus making it easier to avoid.
And hate because it even entertains the incredibly stupid thought of Batman dying.
You're not paying attention.
"Die" is in quotes. Read some of the posts...
Sounds like he does in this film, I'm not sure what else
"The Batman has to come back"
"What if he doesn't exist anymore?"
Could possibly mean
I haven't been on today.
And yes, I'm well aware that another possibility is Batman faking his death.
That's stupid too.
He can't die. It's an impossibility. After this film, they're rebooting the franchise. Hasn't he got to be alive to continue the general story?
Although I am truly, truly hoping we don't get another origin film. So many comic book movies are ruined by a burdonsome origin tale.
First he's died in the comics, so its not some outlandish thought. And do you understand what a reboot is? That is what points more towards the idea that he "may" die.
If he did not, they would make half-ass sequels that continue the general story. A reboot is starting all over with a new origin, new interpretation on Batman. So the fact that they are doing a reboot afterwards, is what some believe may be the reason he will die. They would not have to reboot if he did not. But still yes they could reboot if he does not die either.
Either way it really does not matter, what matters is how the journey of the hero goes, and if it is appropriate it will work, no matter what the legacy lives on, just like Batman Beyond, and that is what Robin/Nightwing are there for, they are the second generation of Batman's legacy. It's not some odd thought. Comics just keep the characters going on because comics are serialized. Films especially the one Nolan wants to make, have more so beginnings and ends, since some watching them want more closure.
How?
Bruce Wayne has shown he will put his life on the line for his city, and shown he would be willing to destroy the image he created to save the city in order to preserve it...
Why would faking the death of Batman be that far off, if it would help his beloved city?
I'm only catching bits and pieces of this conversation, but is Batman...gonna kick the bucket? Like is that rumored, hinted at...or are we just playing with the fact that this is the last Batman. I don't think he's gonna die, Batman is Batman and Nolan knows that. Killing him would cause the world to collapse. Not to mention, why would Bane be the one to kill Batman? I mean, don't get me wrong, he is more than capable, but if anyone were to kill Batman...shouldn't it be The Joker? It's the same rule that Superman should (and can) only be killed by Doomsday and Spider-Man should only be killed by The Green Goblin. And The Joker has already passed us by. Though, I will admit, the idea of Batman dieing does come to mind when you watch the trailer, but isn't misleading the name of the game when it comes to trailers?
EXACTLY.
And Nolan has said TDKR will be a definite end of the story. How much more definite is an ending that a death of the main character?
And remember folks, this is NOLAN's interpretation of the character. He can do whatever he wants with it. Any reboot will be just that, yet ANOTHER interpretation of the character.
It's like what is going on in the MOS threads right now. So many people are saying, "We don't need another origin story." That doesn't make any sense, as it is a new interpretation, and can't rely on any previous origin. Otherwise it becomes a sequel, not a reboot.
This is all pretty much just rank speculation on the part of some fans based solely on the fact that this will be Nolan's last Batman film. It all started with some fans basically saying "This is Nolan's last Bats film, what if he kills him off?" with absolutely NO such indication from anyone involved with the films. Personally, I wouldn't want this to happen, and I really doubt it will. It really would fly in the face of a lot of concepts that Nolan himself has established in the first two movies.

Didn't TDK already "prove" that? I figured that's why Nolan was scrambling for another story before he made a third Batman. I don't want to hear the same song and dance and I don't think Nolan wants to do it either. And there will always be crime in Gotham city. Crime that only Batman is capable of fighting.
Faking his death would be turning his back on the city he swore to protect.
Gotham will always need Batman. This movie needs to prove that.

Again, it is also based on other things..
-Nolan saying this will be a 'definite end' to the story.

Thank you for putting that so eloquently. This is what I've been trying to get across all this time.No one knows for sure, but them rebooting it afterwards got some thinking. Honestly to me I don't care if he dies or not, again the death is an event, but what is important is the journey on how he gets there.
Nolan established a man flesh and blood, and as well even just listening to the trailer, Begins was all about creating a symbol, becoming something everlasting, through the symbol. So if it did happen, there was set up of it from the beginning.
But even put it this way, if he does not die, which is fine too, Batman will die eventually, he is not immortal. So sooner or later some one else would take up his mantle just theoretically in that universe. So him dying is an inevitable thing, that is why he has always in comics had a second generation that he is trying to train to be like him. The symbol of of Batman and the legacy is immortal. Not the man.
But again, it is early, we don't know enough, but there are some hints towards it, but nothing solid. It is still an interesting idea/conversation though.
You do know stories can end without deaths of main characters or THE main character right?
