BvS Batman V Superman Box Office Prediction - - - Part 12

Actually, BvS has a higher budget. But you're right: $200 million production budget, add $100 million for marketing, 55% of $234 million domestic, 1/3 of $514 million foreign... Yeah, it probably made exactly as much as it cost. The profit would have come from home media sales, which is where it's likely going to have to come from for BvS.

According to some people, DoFP actually cost 250M.

I expect BvS will sell very well on DVD and Blu-ray.

Yeah that seems like the only way to juice up the fanbase at this point. But even if they did it in the 25 biggest markets in North America in IMAX only I don't really see an uptick of more than 10% sales from this weekend. Maybe that would be enough to warrant it though?
It's unlikely.

Thats why I try to have as much fun in here as I can. No one actually knows what the studio needs or doesn't need. There have been a lot of superhero movies that barely made a profit and the sequels seem to keep going.

So maybe 850 is a good number after all said and done. Breaking even and poor reviews... welllllllll.

In other words, the only people who know if it made a profit or not is the accountants.

Let's make it simple. If these CBM doesn't make money they would not continue to make and invest big budget in the 200 million range like they are doing now. They all have the bare minimum they need to reach to not net a lost. None of use know their true numbers and can only assume. I'm sure these studio make enough money to warrant making them.

Only ones who know for sure.

Analysts have studied this stuff inside out for ages though so they can offer a well educated guess.

Good God. I've just read this on Box Office Mojo:

"In fact, the film's second weekend plummet is on par with last year's Fantastic Four, which dropped 68.2% in its second weekend."

That really puts it into perspective.

Thanks for posting this

1. BvS had greater expectations to succeed

And therefore

2. the level of disappointment will be greater than F4

Let's be honest bro, with my luck this movie will make 800 million and set the record for 3rd weekend drop. But I feel like either this movie is supposed to make 912mil... or I should be playing 9-1-2 at the lotto.

It'll break even, it'll make beaucoup dolares on home video, we'll get more movies. I win! :woot:

It's really funny to read headlines like 'Batman vs Superman suffers severe decline, but is still number 1 at the weekend box office'. Well of course it is when there's bugger all else to give it any competition right now.

Being #1 for a weekend is one of the most empty headlines out there for entertainment, alongside a show being #1 in their timeslot. What matters is the amount of money made. The actual ranking means nothing.

I actuslly find it more demeaning they used Twitter reactions from random people instead of critic quotes for the last two TV spots. There ARE positive critic quotes. Lots of them. It's like they want this movie to be compared to F4antastic every chance they get.

Staying on topic....(ffs...)

Any actuals in or is it tomorrow they get confirmed?

Infractions for going off topic are being handed out.....

Without Thursday pre-shows, a 70% drop is $41.5 million. If you include the Thursday pre-shows, then 70% is $49.8 million.

$49.8 mil sounds about right. Last week's overestimation was by about $3 mil so that goes in line with this weekend's estimates of $52 mil and change.

I think it'll be $49 mil too now. WB continuing to just spin things. God, I can't wait for the Jungle Book to come out on Friday. It's gonna wipe the floor with it, especially if it's as good as it's supposed to be.

In case anyone missed it....here it is again......I have told you guys enough times to stay on topic....now you get infracted for it.....

Jungle Book comes out on the 15th here in the states. Hardcore Henry is up next and I personally don't see it being a big threat, but it will dig into BvS' box office.

Nah, no way WB lets this go under $50 mill. if actuals are at least 49, they'll find a way to get it to 50

But the thread you are in now...is for discussion of the Box Office for the film.

Discounting the Thursday shows is kinda cheating though? That was still money in the bank for WB after all, contributing to the $166mil record weekend. I don't think making it vanish to soften the drop is a good means to gauge it at all (imo). I figure that money spent Thursday would have been spread over the weekend regardless. My 2 cents on that one at any rate.

At this point, I don't care. Either way, a million or two below or above my prediction is still a disappointment so I'm still happy.

And yeah, to reiterate what wobbly said, I don't think WB can even fudge cold hard numbers.
