The old testament is ripe for dark and gritty film making. I'd actually love to see the battle of heaven to kick start things off; angels vs angels. On one side we have angels led by Michael, Gabriel, Barachiel, Rague ,Jegudiel, Raphael, Uriel and Selaphiel against Lucifer, Baal, Amon, Shax, Zagan, Ipos, Leviathon and Azael....actually this needs the HBO or Netflix treatment.

Still, it's DC's third highest money making comic book movie and it's sixth most earning comic book movie. (As of now.)

The Avengers: $1,519,557,910

Avengers- Age of Ultron: $1,405,413,868

Iron Man 3:$1,215,439,994

The Dark Knight Rises:$1,084,939,099

The Dark Knight:$1,004,558,444

I just can't imagine anyone associating the MCU with BvS. Even if he/she doesn't know the differences between DC and Marvel, it's pretty obvious that they're different groups of characters.

It has more to do with the general audience wondering whether to sink money into watching another Superhero Versus movie, after wasting money on the last one that disappointed them.

No, people want to see upbeat, heroic, Marvel movies with light hearted tone, which could be the reason why it not have got as much support.

But, I think it's (Civil War) doing fine, I'm sure it will reach 1 billion, maybe more.

Yet CA: CW which has a 89% on RT & an A CinemaScore just drooped 60% in week 2 with no competition.

And it's more than $100 million above BvS in that time, not to mention that those drops are fairly close to the drops of AoU, TWS, and IM3.

The performance of CW is showing what BvS could have been had it received good WOM. Now it's not even likely to beat GotG, which was supposed to be "Marvel's first flop".

I have no theaters by me playing this anymore. How long until it hits dollar theaters?

It will surpass a billion for sure. It's already at 940WW.

But it's lower than projected.

There are families with limited income who can't really afford to see all these movies.

I can understand why BVS could have potentially soured them on putting down money on seeing another Superhero Versus flick.

I think Marvel Studios was hoping BVS would do better than it did. That way those who loved BVS and wanted more, would have Civil War.

Not trying to contradict what you are trying to accomplish but it apparently dropped 59% which is supposedly the industry norm. It's definitely not 69% which is considered a bigger drop off than the norm.

60% 2nd wknd drop for #CaptainAmericaCivilWar a bit above #Marvel sequels - #Ultron 59%, IronMan3 58%, #WinterSoldier 57%.

Despite solid reviews, strong WOM & low competition, 60% 2nd wknd fall shows #CaptainAmericaCivilWar playing like 3quel. Auds came upfront.

As someone obsessed with DC enough to lurk on the hype train for 3 whole years since BvS was announced, I walked into this movie thrilled... and left completely drained.

I admire dark, but this was drivel. It was utterly joyless and even the hardcore fan in me could not be motivated to see it a second time. That's how bad this movie was..or how disappointed I was. I don't think I'll waste my time with a hype train again.

That's probably why the box office performed as it did. I imagine I'm not alone. Character interpretations are one thing for fans to be divisive about, but most of all an extremely poor film can turn off even the most devoted of fans.

Civil war is "heavier"-themed than BvS without the silliness of BvS and is not doing as good as expected. This worries me for the IW movies .

Deadline and BOM show the estimate at 59% which is the same as AOU and the industry norm for these films. But again, it's just an estimate as of now and this is a BVS thread so....

If BvS really hurt Civil War's returns, that kinda proves what I've been saying could happen for a while now: that by continuously releasing bad films, WB might make the superhero bubble pop without even realizing it.

^ this. We'll have to wait and see how other superhero movies fare this summer.

Exactly. Suicide Squad may be in trouble.

Where is the proof ?

59 % is not a huge drop, and even if the movie is not doing as well as some wanted it to, it could be due to reasons other than BvS's influence on it.

People may not like the very concept of two groups of heroes fighting each other, or the tone and seriousness of it, as other Marvel movies have been much lighter, I have posted this in my previous post also.

People are quick to blame WB for everything nowadays. :whatever:

Civil War is doing more than fine. The real problem is, some people are outrageous predictions in how much these films will make and when their ludicrous presumptions are looking less likely, someone or something is to blame. It's utter rubbish and people need to be more judicious with their predictions and not be so blatantly outlandish.

Exactly.

Wait, wait wait. Civil War has made $940 million after one week and people are saying BvS hurt it??? Am I missing something? It's well on it's way to a billion in a few days and to be the top earner this year.
