Ben Affleck's message to the internet:

Alfred: Why Ben Affleck?
Batman: Ben Affleck frightens me. Its time my insane fanboys share my dread.

Matt Damon on Ben Affleck playing Batman
"You know, he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set. If anybody saw Argo or The Town, and all the work he's been doing lately, it's way more nuanced and interesting and way more difficult than Batman! Batman just sits there with his cowl over his head and whispers in a kinda gruff voice at people. Bruce Wayne is the more challenging part of the role, and Ben will be great at that."

Man this is brutal. He technically is defending Affleck but in an underhand way is accepting his limited acting abilities inspite of being his best friend. "he's not playing King Lear. It's Batman! Certainly within his skill set." made me lol.

I wouldn't say he's insulting Ben Affleck. If anything he's insulting Batman... cardinal sin, Mr. Damon! :cmad:

He's perfectly right, anyone can play Batman. Bruce Wayne is the challenge.

WOW I am surprised at Damon's remarks as well, not really saying much for their friendship and kind of saying what Bale did in the role wasn't a challenge because it sure as hell was.

I see i can't be away from the internet for an entire week, in just that time this was announced and this thread is in it's 6th part. lol

Hey Matt, Jason Bourne wasn't King Lear either. Just an FYI. :o

There is no way he's insulting Affleck in this. If anything he's insulting how poor Batman is as a character and how Bruce will be more tough.

He's simply pointing out to all the cry baby fan boys that this isn't a role that is leaps and bounds over Ben's head. These complainers make it seem like Matt said, like he's going out for a groundbreaking, earth shattering, complex position. This is a role he can clearly take control of. Its not a Shakespearean play, its a Batman film.

Batman is SO easy, even a Kitten or Madonna can play him. :o

I do agree with Damon that it's not like Batman is a career topping role or anything even remotely of that sort. Kinda puts it in perspective when a Hollywood insider puts it that way. Fanboys might think that Batman is the most challenging role ever but for the stars, these sort of roles are just a quick buck and move on to better acting opportunities.

I think that's why Bale seemed to phone in his **** half the time he played Batman. Didn't like his "performance" at all.

Ruh Roh, Matt just dun goofed. prepare for the twitter firestorm.

I totally agree with Damon here. Also, do you remember some of the fan casting suggestions? Affleck is better than pretty much every single one of them, but now all of a sudden only the greatest actors in the world could make it work? Like Damon said, it's definitely within his range.

"within his skill set" :funny: :funny:
I think Damon pissed upon Affleck's limited acting abilities as well as the limited acting ability required to play the role.

Storms coming.

*slowly backs away from thread*

So for Matt batman is a simple-minded that's pretty condescending.

That's no criticism towards Affleck, that's more of a trash talk on Batman as a character.

While I can agree that Batman doesn't require that much acting ability I'd still say that it requires something else; a certain presence.

To make an extreme example, could Rowan Atkinson ever come across as hard and cool as Daniel Craig if both played Bond? No. Not because Bond is a role that requires great acting range but because coming off as hard and cool just requires a certain charisma that you either have, or you don't.

Whether Affleck can do this or not remains to be seen, but it's just wrong to say that someone can handle Batman for the sole reason that it's not a complex acting challenge.
