BvS BvS Rottentomatoes score - how important will it be, and what do you hope for? - Part 7

This comment from another thread had me dying last night. This could have easily been the RT consensus.

"If only Joker's mom was named Martha, maybe Robin would still be alive" - Supa
:lmao:

This movie felt like the film version of what the 90s comic era is known for. Trying to desperately to be like The Dark Knight Returns/Year One/The Dark Knight Trilogy, but not understanding why those worked and just falling into oppressively dark and bleakness in an attempt to look mature and adult while just coming off as childish.

They seemed to fail at one thing entirely....making a damn good movie. $400m budget for this result? Holy hell, 2 hours later I'm still in "Kanye How" meme mode.

This is so true.

So now knowing what we know... Sack Snyder?

Replace him under the condition the next movie he has to adapt is a book with no pictures. Something around a fifth grade reading level to be fair.

It deserved every percentage point it lost. The characters deserve better, the audience deserves better, and Snyder deserves to not direct another of these.

Which is why I am voting with my wallet and not seeing this movie in theatres. Yours and flickchick's impressions, which I hold in high regard, have completely confirmed my decision. I just hope and pray box office reflects these issues and we can get Simple Jack sacked.

This actually brings up a good point. If Batman
is a murderer in this universe, how and why is the Joker still alive? If we assume that Alfred's "It wasn't always like this.." line means he wasn't always a murderer, we have to assume Robin's death was the tipping point. We know SS takes place after BvS, so why is Joker still running around?

Batman
"Killing" via collateral damage
was the least of this films problems.

True. But him [BLACKOUT]marking people for execution in prison[/BLACKOUT] tells me everything I need to know about the writer and director's thoughts on the character. "But, it sounds so COOL"

I haven't seen the film, but read spoilers. But, I'm going to assume...
The same reason he didn't brand Lex and give him a prison death sentence. There are more films to be made!

That would be the best possible outcome after this movie. If Snyder is directing Justice League Part 1 still, I will not be seeing it in theaters.

If this is true, I don't think I am going to have a good time.

I sure didn't...I really hoped this would be at least like Man of Steel, where I can acknowledge how flawed it is but enjoy it nonetheless. I'm not even going to buy this movie when it comes out. I can't see myself going "you know what? I'm in the mood for Batman v Superman today."

ignore if old:

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice promises both an epic throwdown between two of popular culture’s most beloved characters and a world-building introduction to the DC Comics Extended Universe. Unfortunately, critics say this hotly-anticipated superhero flick is a big misfire — a narratively slack, overly self-serious action fest that fails to do justice to the essence of its titular heroes. ...The critics say Batman V Superman benefits from strong performances (particularly Affleck and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman) and moments of striking visual panache, but overall, it’s less gritty than depressing, and less exciting than bombastic.

You are being awfully generous in presuming that Simple Zack can read...

His adaptation of TDKR scenes suggest he cannot even comprehend the contents of the thought bubbles in those stories.

The thing is this film does a lot of set up for films for the future, but gives no justification for them in the present.

Simply having Alfred say ''It didn't use to always be like this." isn't enough to justify why Batman's branding criminals or going gun crazy, etc. You need to show more than a suit of Robin's marked with Joker's stuff or a burned manor.

You need to actually have the characters vocalize these things. If they're so crucial to their feelings and actions they should speak about them.

The problem is no one speaks about it.

Hell, the only set up for the future that is done right and intrigues me is the stuff Wonder Woman briefly says about her past, and the fact that it takes her a minute to put her armor on again.

That's what puzzles me about the film. Some set up is done right. Others? Not so much.

I can see myself watching the rated R cut, outside of that I can get by with youtube video high lights.

[BLACKOUT]The JL "discovery"[/BLACKOUT] was the best damn post credit scene they could have done. Even had the perfect set up [BLACKOUT]of Batman looking at the data after everything....died....down[/BLACKOUT]. But oh no of course not, just throw it in there.

Well, fool me once shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. The second and last time I thought a Snyder movie would be amazing from it's trailers. Never again, lol.

It was too sophisticated for your feeble mind. The complexity. The sophistication! Come back when you've matured.

Fooled me into thinking anything was left. Hell the entire damn Jeep/Dodge commercial was in the movie. I almost said "you got to fkn kidding me" outloud and that was in the 1st 10 minutes of the movie.

sweet i didnt know Jim Lee was the penciler for that! Going to put that on my comic book backlog asap

No problem. All they had to do was adapt that comic into a JL movie. Page for page. It was purposefully written to be cinematic

Huh. The same happened when I was in NY over the holiday break. Thought it was just a fluke, but this makes me wonder if it occurred elsewhere too.

Nope. Happened in Toronto too. :O

Just got back from the movie. I posted a reivew in the proper thread but to summarize: not good. It's certainly not Green Lantern/FFINO bad but I would dare say it's a notch or two below ASM 2. At times it can be fun, but it's still a huge mess.
Also, the DCEU drinking game should either be "take a shot every time there's a heavy-handed reference to how tough Lois Lane is" or "take a shot every time Lois Lane magically appears where she needs to be".

Surely it's the writer fault though? Everyone keeps telling me it's not Snyder who's to blame for all the problems in his movies.

Like I said in another thread, DC fans could/should LOVE this movie. For its imagery and world building and what have you. But they are so wrapped up in the visual comic booky smorgasbord playing out they are subconsciously using their catalog of back knowledge to fill in major, important plot points and character arcs. And then acting like it was all in the movie. Love it all you want. But understand why you love it.
