BvS BvS Rottentomatoes score - how important will it be, and what do you hope for? - Part 7

That music never fails to make me laugh thanks to Arrested Development. I don't even care about context.

Yeah, I just...I kept trying to will myself to enjoy it. There were certain scenes that had me thinking, "ok, I can totally get into this"...right before they were undercut but something inane or ridiculous. It just didn't work at all for me, and I can't even muster up the energy to write up a proper review right now because I'm so deflated. Like...they have a great cast who we're clearly there to make something good. They were just completely failed by their material. Henry Cavill COULD be a perfect Superman - I just don't see Superman in this character anymore, and that hurts, because Supes is my guy. But I honestly felt like I was watching some sort of alt-reality Elseworlds version of both these characters, waiting for the real ones to show up and school 'em.

You stole the words right out of my mouth. This film was a draining experience. Some things came so close to being good, and then were ripped away. There are some scenes you could watch on youtube and be pleased with, but when strung together in a haphazard way like the film was and constantly being followed up with stilted dialogue, nonsensical threads and whatever the hell Lex was, it's just...disheartening.

Was WonderGal good? :(

I liked her for her ten lines or so. I don't think anyone could have been AMAZING with the material she's given as it's so sparse, but I think she did as good a job with it as anyone could and shows potential. Her parts of the climax were the only parts of it I enjoyed.

Yep, I'm no Donner fanboy, never really identifying with that version of the character having grown up with the Post-Crisis version, but Donner got a hell of a lot right. The first half of STM is a perfect example of how to treat Superman seriously without losing the hope and idealism of the character. Simple Zack talks a lot about the mythic symbolism of these characters. Donner did it. The best parts of STM are truly operatic and mythic.

People also forget what the world was like in the late 70s. It wasn't much better than now. The US just got out of a humiliating and scarring war, a President resigned due to corruption, and the economy went to hell with stagflation. Saying we need a new, reinvented Superman now because of the dark, cynical times we live in is laughable. A wholesome Superman helps us find our way and inspiration in the darkest of times.

Very well put. The whole helicopter sequence still gives me goosebumps to this day.

So there's hope... Wonder Woman I will see you June 2017! :awesome:

Was WonderGal good? :(
She was barely given anything to do, but she was fine. I did come out of this more excited for her solo than anything else, so that's one positive I can give it.

Was WonderGal good? :(

She serves no purpose in the movie but was easily the highlight. The only character to put a smile on my face.

She's cheeky and dignified. She's not in it much.

I disagree with people who say she was wooden.

I was captivated by every scene she was in, as was everyone else in the theatre from what I can tell from excited whispers.

In my view, the criticisms are more of people who want her to be bad to justify their earlier position. The main rebuttal to saying she was good is that "people were responding to the character, not the actress" - but that's illogical unless she was playing the character well.

Were the Clois scenes at least good. :)

This is too funny not to share, Ben's reaction to the critic response. :lmao:

"Stare into the abyss, and the abyss stares back at you."

Holy s***, this is gold. :funny:

(Seriously though, I highly doubt that the movie sucking is because of Affleck or Cavill ...)

They were alright. I don't care for how Lois is used in this film though, and I feel there's a bit too much unearned in regards to their relationship, but they still do have chemistry.

Affleck was the second best Punisher of the month

Tragic that Daredevil was a better Superman than Superman. Never thought I'd have to turn to Marvel to show me the Batman/superman stand off I've wanted to watch.

Yeah, I feel like Henry and Amy have better chemistry off-screen than on, but overall, no complaints about Clois. They had some nice moments, and I would have loved to see a proper Superman movie with more of them.

Funny enough, that happened to a Batman as well. :funny:

Wonder Woman came out looking fine, but I'm now convinced that's only because she wasn't in it long enough for Snyder to screw her up. Thankfully, this gives me hope for her solo.

Thanks for the comments. I'm really frustrated with the Cavill situation, he looks like Superman, he's got the charm, he's got the charisma, but he's never allowed to show it. It's been hard being a Superman fan and it's not getting any easier

Cavill and Adams have chemistry.

You buy them as a couple.

But Snyder and the script stifle them so much.

Everyone was working against the current for this movie because of that.

Really, it's all just wasted potential for greatness and it comes down to Snyder and Terrio. That's what makes the movie so frustrating.

Even Eisenberg gives a chilling performance, but his character is nothing like Lex.

Wasn't she saved like three times by him? This movie took damsel in distress to a new level.

I hear ya there. :csad:

This movie felt like the film version of what the 90s comic era is known for. Trying to desperately to be like The Dark Knight Returns/Year One/The Dark Knight Trilogy, but not understanding why those worked and just falling into oppressively dark and bleakness in an attempt to look mature and adult while just coming off as childish.

Yeah, Frankeh, that's exactly what bothered me so much. Felt like a big step in the wrong direction for her character.

So now knowing what we know... Sack Snyder?

Watching MoS right now. Forgot how many times we saw Superman's junk. :funny:

So now knowing what we know... Sack Snyder?

There was a Sack Snyder thread but for some inexplicable reason it was merged with the Zack Snyder Directs Everything thread. I'd like to request that thread be reopened because it differs in nature.

This comment from another thread had me dying last night. This could have easily been the RT consensus.
