BvS BvS Rottentomatoes score - how important will it be, and what do you hope for? - Part 9

The guy who was set to direct the Flash had no damn business having that spot in the first place.

The Flash would have been his first film, but his previous work on films were as the screenwriter for "Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer", "Pride & Prejudice vs Zombies" and that "Dark Shadows" remake.

That guy getting that opportunity embodies most of what people complain about in regards to cronyism being rampant in Hollywood. Everything that guy was connected to was a critical and financial bomb, yet he was given a HUGE tent pole film for his directorial debut.

James Wan on the other hand has proven he's capable of turning in a blockbuster movie that audiences will love. He was responsible for the first Saw film, he made the Conjuring which is best horror movie of the past 10 yrs, and he directed Furious 7 under the worst possible circumstance (one of the lead characters dying). Whatever issues WB has with James Wan, they better get over it because Wan would probably do a great job with Aquaman.

that keeps with the tone of the DCU then since Snyder has no business directing these films either

If your chosen director is the writer of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire and has also never directed a film before AND he knows a **** show when he sees it, you need to reevaluate things.

People still running up in here looking at the RT score and saying "The film isn't that bad".... :whatever:

I know, right? Pesky humans, making up their own minds about something instead of letting numbers tell them how to feel.

Nowhere did I say anything about people not being able to have their own opinions. People should at least know how Rotten Tomatoes works before whining about the score and saying "It's not that bad".

knowing how RT works actually makes it less bad. Normally people see it as a 29% film. as in a 2.9/10.

You do know there's nothing wrong with people reading reviews to help them decide on whether to see a movie or not, don't you? People have a finite amount of time to see a film. This superior attitude that it's somehow dumb, wrong, or 'sheeplike' to assess a movie's worth based on critics reviews makes my teeth itch - especially because if BvS was 94% on RT, you'd be singing its praises.

And that while RT isn't 100% accurate, it's rating system does tend to give a decent indication of a film's quality. And BvS is a mediocre to poor movie. The RT reflects that. The vast majority of reviews are rotten, and deservedly so.

seems like you're trying to say the movie is objectively bad.

This is what the people that come in here whining about RT score and saying "It's not that bad" fail to realize.

The RT isn't a rating of the film, it's just the percentage of critics that give it a fresh rating.

At this point it's just pure laziness on the part of some people. The average rating for the film is right under the damn RT score.

Exactly. It means that only 27% of the critics decided the movie was fresh. the reviews park the movie at 4.9/10, which is the perfect score for it.

I use RT reviews a lot. Whenever I get a chance to see a movie and there isn't something out that I am dying to see, I go to the RT. I take a look at 5 to 10 fresh reviews and 5 to 10 rotten. You have to look at the same amount of fresh as rotten however. If I feel it's something I might like, I'll give it a chance.
Its how I introducended people to RT as well. My friend wanted to take his 9 year old son to BVS and he asked (he knew I saw it) me what I thought. Not wanting to influence his decision, I told him to check 5 fresh and 5 rotten reviews. After just reading the 5 fresh he decided not to take his 9 year old. So in this case, it wasnt even the rotten reviews that turned off this potential ticket buyer.

Yeah, that's totally what people do.

My mistake.

I think this was not one of the 5 reviews your friend read.
In this age of petty Marvels, most comic-book movies merely perpetrate fantasies of power, but Snyder, enacting his personal aesthetic, braves a film that examines those fantasies. He boldly challenges popular culture's current decay.
The very opposite of what I can say about this particular film, and all the other films reviewer pointed at here.

Civil War now has more positive reviews than BvS, and it hasn't even hit 100 total reviews compared to BvS's 340 odd
