Gonna be honest, I think they might have caught lightning in a bottle again and I'm hoping the box office can back that claim up. I don't have high hopes of this touching 1.5 billion but if it gets close, that says something.

Wouldn't be that surprised if it's that. RDJ commands a huge slice of the wage pie thanks to his contract. There's a reason why he's the highest paid actor in the world and a lot of it was down to his contract agreement with marvel. The budget for the movie ballooned with his involvement and marvel CEO Perlmutter wasn't pleased about that hence why he and Kevin Feige knocked heads over and Feige won that duel.

I hope you aren't serious... If so that could be dumbest statement of the year on this forum... This "solo" movie by Captain America will more than likely beat AOU at the theatres, no way it does that without RDJ. IMO, having RDJ as Tony Stark in a movie is worth at least 400 to 500 million extra at the box office. It's the main reason why Sony threw so much cash at him to be in the new Spider-man film...

Captain America: Civil War (4,226 theaters) - $210 M

That said, a weekend over $200 million is easy to forecast and even as much as $215 million isn't at all unreasonable. What will be interesting is to see if a Marvel film can reach even higher than that.

Guys....that's what the sarcasm icon is for. Yes, I was being as sarcastic as I could possibly be. RDJ gets paid a lot because it makes the studio money and not because they like him more than anyone else. Plain and simple.

After watching this movie last night, I think it's legs are going to be strong. I'm still going modest for the OW with $200M... I hope it beats Jurassic World and goes $209+, but anything $200M and above is a win in my books!

Anyone remember on here 5 years ago when Marvel was purchased by Disney and many people were claiming Disney either a) wasted their money or b) will ruin Marvel...

Looks like Disney is having the last laugh as Marvel is in same boat as Pixar name... A Marvel movie about Squirrel Girl would probably get to 350 million WW at this point easily...

I think $250M sounds about right. IM2 and IM3 both cost $200M, GotG cost $196M, and AoU cost $280M. When you have that many characters and a set piece as large as the airport scene, it is going to cost a lot. I would say that was money well spent as I loved the movie.
