Chapter 53 - "Shades of Gray" Discussion Thread 3/9/09

It was an ok episode. So is Nathan the rebel? If so that just sucks so bad. But the next episode looks to be good.

WHOOOOOOOOA @ Tracy freezing the entire parking garage in the next episode.

And Janice Parkman is back next week too!

Now if only we would see Nathans family again. They seem to be forgotten by everyone.

Matt is a baby? WTF?

Matt's wife was pregnant when they split up.

Nathan is not the rebel. Unless he somehow developed computer controlling powers which he can put to use while stressing over deactivating a bomb.

Okay, this was pointed out at another message board, but did anyone else notice that security camera in the office was turned off right before Danko shot at Nathan.

When they first show the camera, the light is flashing red then right before Danko shoots at Nathan they cut back and the camera has no flashing light.

Interesting. If that pans out, Props. If not, meh.

This show has no surprises any more and absolutely no fighting...this show sucks. This feels like a pricey soap opera but Days of Our Lives has twists you don't see coming...I doubt I watch next volume.

So Sylars dad can use TK but doesnt know how to cut with it? Guess you cant teach old dogs new tricks. And ofcourse since Sylar can never be taken down or beaten it just makes things so boring with him!

Why was Sylar able to overcome his father's power ?

Moving from heat lamp holding room to heat lamp interview room:huh: Can't they just walk down the hall:huh:

I think it was a flashback to when they first brought her there. To show that she got a message from Rebel once, saying to have hope or whatever, and then Nathan said he was her only hope.

I don't think the 2 scenes tonight took place right after eachother. She hasn't left that room since she killed that guy.

It was an ok episode. Sylars plot ended lame but at least it set up to things. Hiro/Ando randomly poping up=Ok? At least they saved some one I guess LOL. Nathan/Mrs.P were great. I can't wait for next two weeks episode.

They were traveling from India to LA. Takes awhile.

Well, this was an interesting episode. We have Danko--who still comes off as one-dimensional even though we're hinted at some tragic past--now knows Nathan has an ability, which is to be expected. Although, the whole plot thread with Matt threatening to blow up the Capitol turned out to be a complete waste of time. Granted, I know the painting the future of some disaster was overdone, but just the way it was so easily resolved is proof it never should have been used in the first place. Honestly, if we're supposed to take Danko as a serious threat, he needs to be more than just some paranoid villain.

I actually thought the best scenes occured between Sylar and his real father, played by Smallville's John Glover. Although it came off as sort of a gothic hillbilly version of Lex and Lionel Luthor's relationship, it was nicely done in exploring the similarities between father and son and how its a glimpse into a path Sylar dreads. Then again, it still makes Sylar into the anti-hero even more simply because he's one of the better and popular characters on the show.

I also thought the return of Doyle was nicely played. Even though he sincerely wanted to change, he still came across as the pathetic sad sack as before and that the wheels were still a little off kilter. Still, in was a bit heavy handed with Claire wondering whether she should forgive him and help him, but at least we got the amusing scene were she interviews for the job as a retailer in a comic book shop. And she's a fugitive this time around and can't rely on HRG to help her out this time.

Finally, I was quite surprised to see Hiro and Ando show up to find Matt's baby, and that Matt's ex also had named him Matt. Matt's ex-wfie and their newborn son was something which has been dangling around since season 1 and I'm glad that the show appears to, at least, be finally following up on it. Not to mention, given the reaction from the sitter, the baby could have a power already (like Jack-Jack from the Incredibles?). So all in all, not too bad and certainly better than last week.

OK, so we're sure that's Matt's kid? I thought it was just a baby with the same name (there are lots of people in the world, even in the country...) and who probably also had a power, given that Hiro and Ando were led to 'save' him. I could be wrong, it seems you guys caught something I didn't.
I enjoyed the stuff between Sylar and his dad, it gave him some decent character development for once instead of lame retconning.
And I gotta say, the next episode looks incredible! How dare NBC make me wait two weeks!
Also, is that next one the first new one written by Bryan Fuller? If so, then it will definitely be as amazing as it looks, probably even moreso.
I gotta say, to me, this show is starting to get pretty badass again.
It will never be season one again, nor should it, really, but this is WAY better than the crap we were being force-fed with Villains.

Great, now we get to see the KrAzy antics Hiro and Ando will get up to when they have to babysit a superbaby!
Do the writers hate Hiro, or us? He used to be my favorite character, but his stories are now just getting dumber all the time.

Agreed. I, too, enjoyed the scenes between Sylar and his father. At one point, I wondered if Pops would actually take Sylar's healing ability--that would certainly have thrown in an interesting plot twist. Sylar going after the big baddie makes sense, and helps appease fans who've wondered why a guy who's so powerful seems to avoid the main antagonist (the Hunter) and just lay low. With what he's got, he can certainly eliminate the main threat--but I guess we'll have to wait until next week to see for sure.

Claire was tolerable this ep, mainly because, again, she's being more proactive, doing something rather than just seething and being unable to act. I appreciate that her mother is allowing or supporting Claire in doing what she feels she needs to do--the "have to protect my daughter" spiel is growing tired. I like Doyle, he has one of the most interesting powers, and it was great to see him featured again, if only for one ep. Claire's "dilemma" over what to do didn't seem that earth-shattering or even surprising to me--she's been mulling over these paths for quite some time. I liked that Nathan came back to save Claire in the end, rather than HRG jumping in.

Overall, I liked this episode, but I will say that Ali Larter has been terribly underused. If she's the actor that wants out of the series, I can certainly understand why.

Does everyone see the connection with Claire/Sandra and Noah's role in "Five Years Gone" as helping all the specials get new identities to help evade the government.

I thought that was really neat, and it looks like we're inching closer and closer to that future.

Well I am done with this piece of sh** show! That fact that Noah didn't push Danko's bald ass out the window with Nathan is rediculous! You can't make characters bad asses one minute. Then have them stand there & watch helplessly the next it is f-ing ******ed!

So good day Heroes. Hope you get cancelled you soon.

What would have been the point of Noah pushing Danko out the window??

Besides, it's long been established that HRG is a fence-sitter. He's in the grey, so to speak--I don't think it would fit his character to kill Danko, at least not under those circumstances. The only times we've really seen such a knee-jerk reaction was in response to a direct threat to Claire or something along those lines. It's also uncertain how much of his loyalties lie with Nathan--you never know with Noah, which is why he's brilliant.

John Glover = bad ass

Was that matt's baby?..ohhh boy

Angela= awesome..............
