Now we see why there is a sequel, there is just something strange about this franchise, I just can't pin it down other than to say that Avi and Tim may be on to something with the younger generation.
Also after an exhaustive web search I can't find total DVD sales only first day numbers, what gives.
I think those numbers might be informative, even more so than second week numbers. They represent the lasting impact of the movie in the public's mind I think.
Carp Man HELLLLLLLLLP.

Cool, looking forward to that.Lightning Strikez! said:Thanks Retro. And thank you for the pros. I've already got a "25 Things Going Right" thread in development, but it won't be released publicly until after the trailer is dropped next month. Who knows--maybe by then the list might swell to 40 or 50.t:

ultimatefan said:There are two big obstacules: one of the tone and style of the first movie, whose commercial success can make it wrongfully look like they can do more of the same shtick and get away with it. The other is Fox again, who can get a perfectly decent character-driven two hour movie and chop it off till it becomes an incoherent mess of stupid jokes and action scenes.

I agree; the consumer base can inadvertently send the wrong message to a studio by means of high box office gross. This unwittingly communicates the idea that moviegoers will eat up "anything" that is thrown at them. Such a false impression may lull a studio into complacency, shelling out only the bare minimum "to get by", with hopes of double-dipping later for greater commercial conquest (how much do you want to bet that the Director's Cut for 2005's Fantastic Four will be released shortly before June 2007?). I have a bad feeling that FOX may be in for the rudest awakening ever if they churn out another film on par with the quality of the first film.
Indeed! These details are being stored in the same place as the theatrical exit polling figures--which ironically neither we nor the press can get a hold of either.![]()

Yeah, we often saw subpar movies make a big buck at the BO but then fail at the sequel - Charlie´s Angels, Tomb Raider, xXx, etc.
Thats one of the reasons i love Del Toro. His passion always shines through.Mind you i've only seen 3 of his films; Blade 2, Mimic and Hellboy.Hellmistress said:The inability of Fox to trust the subject matter, and controlling everything to the 'n'th degree, including the director. They should take a note out of Del Toro's book and trust the people they employ to do the job well, and also include the fans - the internet is one of the most powerful mediums available today, and buzz DOES matter - and the fans have a part to play.
As an example ... Guillermo involved his fans every inch of the way with HELLBOY and now PAN'S LABYRINTH, and due to the combination of a decent distributor (Picturehouse) and Guillermo's openness with fans and his zeal, we've plugged the crap out of PAN - and it's working. The distribution of the film is far wider than we would have ever expected, and I have good feelings about multi Oscar noms. And don't think we fans and webmasters didn't have a part to play - we have more clout than a lot of the studios give us credit for. I know this film is different (big budget hooey), but the intent is the same.
Fox should wake up and take notice - they'd do better if they did.
