I have nothing to back this up, because we'll never really know what Trevorrow's IX would have been, but I think history is going to be very kind to this decision. Just a gut feeling.

And then his third movie was a disaster he defended in an embarrassing manner. He was getting worse and then was going to make a movie people actually care about.
Should a filmmaker not defend or stand behind their work?

Book of Henry really pissed people off.

I'm sorry but calling Trevorrow Voldemort, how do people come up with that?
I did. It was my thing here, I enjoyed it, still do. Made even happier that he is finally fired. His hiring pissed me off royal, and then The Book of Henry came out, proving everything I feared.

I don't really understand that. Why is he akin to Voldemort? Besides Book of Henry?

Because the entire idea centered around not saying his name because he was going to be in the credits for this film. He was going to get fired. It happened, its fantastic.

David Lynch agrees. David Lynch said the arthouse film scene is not "dying" but "dead."

And yet I watch more then a few every year and even PTA is still making films. So yeah. Also, that is different from making the argument that the criticcs were being mean to him.

I'm not saying I agree with his stance, but I understand it. Just like I understand Jordan Vogt-Roberts taking issue with the Cinema Sins video over his Kong movie but think he should've ignored it since it was just a silly YouTube parody video and not worth getting emotional over. But artists are egotistical and sensitive people. They are still human beings at the end of the day, and I can understand that.

I'm not saying you have to agree with him but just because Paul Thomas Anderson is still making films doesn't mean it's hard to make arthouse or indie movies now. And once again, you have David Lynch publicly stating the arthouse scene is dead. David Lynch said that.

It seems your issue with him is that he's sensitive and didn't respond to criticism well. I'm not saying you are wrong about that, but again, I think it's sort of extreme to classify him as Voldemort for that. Your anger seems somewhat deeper than that than just making one bad indie film.

Ron Howard has made plenty of bad movies too you know.

I just feel like Treverrow has made very bland and "meh" movies. I never really wanted to him to do, what could be, the concluding chapter to the Skywalker Saga.

And please let's be fair, it's a little uneven for Lynch to say arthouse film is dead when he just put out an 18-part movie magnum opus that's one of the most Lynchest things that Lynch has ever done.

It has always been hard. That doesn't mean you cry about people thinking your stupid movie sucks. Because anyone with a bit of taste would understand how awful that movie was going to be before filming it. And David Lynch being wrong doesn't make it any different. How many hours of television did he just spend making arthouse?

Ron Howard has made underwhelming movies. He has also made some fantastic ones, and I feel like in general he fits Star Wars. He can invoke that 80s adventuer flick very well.

Oh no...don't do it Coogler. Its not worth the hassle...

I've only seen Jurassic World as far as Trevorrow's films go.

It was a fun action/adventure film, but had nothing against the original and I'm still wondering how it made $1,5 billion at the BO, considering the "averageness" it was for a JP film (again, don't get me wrong, it's a good film, but nothing too special).

So based on that, I wasn't very excited about him directing IX. But now, I am excited to see who will step up next.

I didn't expect this. I wonder who is going to replace him as the director.

I'd probably prefer one of the guys already involved with SW.

The idea of hiring young new talents sure looked great on paper, but it seems like Lucasfilm is slowly changing that atitude. While some of the Directors do seem slightly problematic, this is happening way too often. With Rogue One the problem seemed that Lucasfilm at first let the Director go free with his different vision, but then started second guessing, while with Han Solo they simply didn't trust the previous directors enough to let them shoot the entirety of the film.

I wonder how Lucasfilm compares with Marvel Studios when it comes to allowing creative freedom. Even though Marvel has had a shaky past, right now it doesn't seem like a James Gunn would have been allowed the level of freedom he has been receiving.

Yep, 3 times is way too often.

It's been more than three times if you count Josh Trank.

I still don't understand your Voldemort hatred at all if you could please explain. Is it really nothing more than he couldn't handle criticism for Book of Henry and you didn't like Book of Henry?

You think Ron Howard can do that, but can't Trevorrow arguably do that as well based off Jurassic World? What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

$1.6 billion.

As someone who really liked JW I was excited to see what Trevorrow had in store for the 3rd movie.

Hopefully they get a good replacement

Well, guys, YOU wanted this. The dude makes ONE bad indie movie and you lot started SCREAMING for him to be fired from Episode IX. Well, NOW he's gone. Hope you guys are satisfied.

Partial sarcasm aside, now if only we can get Guy Richie off of Aladdin but keep the cast....

I mean...Jurassic World was not good. I think that's why nobody wanted him because we all saw Jurassic World. That being said, just keep Rian Johnson on board to finish the trilogy.

IMO, Disney should do everything in their power to get Johnson to come back for 9. Push the release date, throw him more money, let him do a re-write on the script, let him do another movie in between, whatever it takes.

The very last thing they should do right now is try to slap something together to hit an arbitrary release date ASAP.

I would be happy with JJ or Johnson grabbing this to finish it up. I enjoy both their films, and habing them already have a film under their belt is a good sign.

I don't think it's likely, but I've always been interested in a Spielberg Star Wars, though he doesn't seem terribly interested in blockbusters anymore. Yeah, Player One looks like a blockbuster style, but it's a much quirkier version of that compared to the huge action adventures he used to do.
