I don't like the cliques either HR... hence why the Hype is my home vs LSP. To me, it was never about ripping someone apart... but there used to be some really good discussions going on here even with threads that started out mediocre. Maybe I was able to post more during the daytime (stateside) I would participate more, but during the night it is pretty dead around here and as much as I would like to, I cannot devote my entire being to the Hype... so maybe I am not the one to complain since I do not contribute as much as I complain.

It just irks me when I come here, hoping for something interesting (things used to almost always be interesting here) and I see *bleh* *meh* and more *hmph* *yawn*. It sometimes seems as if this place has been overrun by people who are afraid to start a discussion that might stir the pot, not in a demeaning way but in an interesting, discussion stimulating way.

Maybe I should hang out in Misc Films more often. :csad:

In my opinion The Hype is what you make of it. So if you want more stimulating discussion, then I think the best way to achieve that is set an example. Post some new threads on some better topics in community then. You can do that at night when it is dead.

I would but sometimes the motivation just isn't there knowing that the discussion in the thread won't be as stimulating as I would like it to be.

That is not necessarily true about the Hype being what you make of it. I can't control how others post and they are as much part of the Hype as I am... so other than starting a new thread everyday, how is this place what I make of it? It's what everyone contributes by making threads and participating in said threads... and if the contributions are boring... then the Hype = boring.

So in essence you miss posters from the past (most banned ?) ?
Maybe I'm not the best person to address this as ive never been a "big name" in Community, so the changes may not be as apparent to me.

The topics here have always varied in interest to me and Ive not seen any real change in that, only thing ive noticed is that some of the threads have lost a "who can be the bigger smartass" style of posting. In the past it almost felt like threads came down to who could say the most "shocking" thing possible.

Misc movies has always been my favourite section. :D

Whats the big ****ing deal so long as the ****ing censors work? Who gives a ****? Damn... :cwink:
First, that's not funny.

Second, the censors are nowhere near good enough. People circumvent them all the time, substituting punctuation marks for letters in swear words (i.e., "@$$") to get away with breaking the rules. As far as I can see, very little appears to be getting done in stopping stuff like this.

Do you do anything but moan? your 'modest women' thread was you moaning about people posting pictures that showed more than there face. you moan about any language stronger than 'gosh'. dude take a look at the world there are far worse things going on and you moan about 'I can see her shoulders in that picture thats not acceptable'

I mean come on:huh:

Boo hoo that you could not withstand the force of the implied meaning of someone's series of symbols and asterisks:huh:
I don't get what you want them to do, start restricting language entirely now? How would they even have the RESOURCES to do that? That's exACTly what the censor system is for. Not only that, but I see very little of this "@$$" style posting you're talking about.

Besides, Lord is it juvenile to go "HE MEANT TO SAY ASS! THAT'S A BAD--:wow:--WORD!"

If someone goes around the censor they get a warning, and the word ass is not censored here.

This is supposed to be a thread where posters make suggestions to a moderator, I don't think it is a good idea to start flaming other posters in the same thread. That's just me.

Moviefan 2K4, Matt was obviously just joking, a little humor doesn't hurt. That being said, when posters try to get around censors we do our best to pick up on this and delete or edit the post in question. If you find something offensive or a major circumvention of the censor, by all means report it. Then we can react with an infraction or warning if needed.

I would've used a different example, but I didn't want to resort to the same type of response that I'm advising against.

I like rewarding people who are "regulars" at the Hype. Makes us feel good. Now not all of us can be Mods. I guess because we're not cool enough. Or if we ask then we're immediately removed from consideration. Which is pretty childish, but that's how it's always been. So if we can't become Mods then how bout you give us Oldbies some simple rewards. It's simple and it makes us feel better and usually goes a long way to let us know that we're wanted here. Other than banning, regulars leaving is why some people like Knowsbleed are unhappy. Maybe a few cookies here and there would help relieve some of those problems.

Now I know you guys want to get rid of the post count, which I guess is a source of problems for you. I don't know why. You moved the spam threads to that other forum and if you spam elsewhere it's against the rules and posters get warned and infracted and ultimately banned. Problem solved. But if you do get rid of them maybe you could reward the regulars with some simple "cookies".

Maybe you could give different colored names. Mods of course are Red, but maybe you could change Golden Age posters to Gold and Silver Age posters to Silver.. or Green for everyone who's broken the 5 year mark. Another reward might be the ability to put images or banners in our sigs. Because not alot of people make it past 5 years or hell 3 years it wouldn't be that much of a lag on your bandwidth because there are not that many of us. Another reward might be the ability to close your own threads like others here have wanted.

These are just some brainstorming thoughts I had. Hope they've been constructive.

I am thinking the coloured names may not be possible technically but if it is then it's a decent idea, as is the banner one, I'd definitely back both of those.

Would I get a gold name for never breaking any rules in my 5 year reign here?

If so, sweet

So with all the spammy threads moved into the diner, why do the Mods feel the need to destroy post counts? I'm really just curious as to what the reasoning behind this, is.

As for suggestions, I like the idea of being able to edit our thread title. Also, when people get banned maybe the banning admin could edit that person's info to state why he was banned? (unless it was obvious).

That is a cookie that I couldn't get. I've thrown too much bologna at Toven's butt. :D

Very disciplined of you Spider-Fan.

Bah! Drakon can fix anything.

:D

He is technologically well endowed.

We aren't, it weas mentioned by a couple of posters in here but it is not something that is ever likely to be initiated.

Editing thread titles would be a good addition, hopefully Drak can shed some light on if that can be added to the user options. As for bannings, most like their bannings to be private and those that don't you find out about anyway.

I just thought it'd be a good idea so we wouldn't have so many people starting threads "OMGZ why did Batmanfan1608 get banned??? Bring him back!?" and all that crap.

Instead of eliminating post counts, can't you just hide the post counts so they're only visible when you visit the person's profile? I know this can be done because other vbulletin boards do it.

we just close those threads and dump them in trash

That's a good idea Darth

And just so people know, I suggested the post count thing...no one is eliminating anything. They just asked me about why I think post counts can be done away with.

Sorry to get people nervous :csad:

I guess we just see it differently, I don't see this section as much different than it was, only it no longer has less socially "cool" posters getting ripped on as much.
I miss those days. :csad:
