What is up with the big VBulletin logo?

Side effect of upgrading to a newer update of vB. Mirko's handling it now, I think.

That's part of the whole new user groups push right? Wasn't that done before this thread was created? Though I do think that it was a good change.

It wasn't done before this thread, but yeah, it's part of that thing.

I still like my Idea of Rep Points. I'm sure theres a way to curb abuse.

I like the idea of the different colored user names set up as a reward similar to avatar levels a little more then the rep points.

Repost it please?
Basically, It would work like on Xbox Live, you have a number next to your SN or where your details are (Post Count, etc), it ranges from 1 to 100. You start at 50. Or you can have 5 stars and start with 3.

As you have more and more substantive conversations with people, they go to your profile and vote YES for you.

Or, if you are someone that just fights online, or is disrespectful constantly, and so on, you can get a NO vote.

After time, you Meter, or Number, or Stars or whatever, will increase or decrease depending on your how others voted for you.

You can limit the Vote to One Vote per Poster a day, or One Vote a day, this way you can't get others to gang up on you. But, really, I think that that would happen only to the "Stars" of the hype. As there are a great number more of the average poster that just sticks to the Bat Forums or what have you.

On Xbox Live, people Anonymously vote for others they play with. If you constantly curse, or are just a rude person or whatever, you can get a Negative Vote, this ultimately reduces your points. When overs decide they want to play, and find that you have low "Rep" points, they know they are not going to have a good time playing with you, therefore can skip to the next play session.

On the Hype, you could have some fore warning to the type of Poster your having a Conversation with. If they, the majority of the time, have great conversations with others, they will generally have higher "Rep Points", and if they have lower "Rep Points" you know that you have a chance that your are dealing with someone that is rude or whatever.

If people see a number next to their name, they tend to want it higher. Just like Post Counts, posters like to have higher numbers. So, they would have to earn it by offering good conversation.

Now, ofcourse you are going to have some posters that just dont care about the system, maybe they will wear a low Rep as a badge. But, when others don't want to conversate with them, they will eventually change their mind.

Rep points doesn't affect your abilities to post, but it could help Self Moderation.

Now, I know others are going to say that people could abuse it, but there has to be a way to fix that. I mean, if Microsoft is using it with Millions of Users, then we could adapt it.

But what do you reward them for? And what is the rules to earn rewards? Just post counts or join dates? Thats would be just the same thing as Avatar Size, just spam enough or don't get banned, then you eventually earn a larger Av, but what makes you want to post better thoughts? What makes you what to gain respect of others?

Like I said in my last post, some won't care about it, but I would think if they think others don't like the content of their posts, they will do better to impress others.

I mean seriously read this post from last night:

Which brings me to another reason as to WHY this version of G.I. Joe and even the eventually forthcoming Metal Gear can't be right and will have to be remade/rebooted at least three more times.

It's because of the Joker. Seeing the two Joker heads there made me think - 'hmmmmm, two Jokers... TWO JOKERS!?! TWO JOKERS, OF COURSE!!!' But every deck of cards has four Jokers. We have seen the first three - Caesar Romero, Jack Nicholson, Heath Ledger. Dare I venture to say - the best is yet to come?

With that in mind... oh crap - it's not in my mind anymore, it's on this page. Well... ummmm... uhhhhhh...

Will the REAL JOKER please stand up so 1 deck will be completed?

I know what your thinking, each deck has only two Jokers. Not if your playing Spades. It's only fitting the favorite card game of criminals and delinquents is the official card game of the four Jokers.
------------------------
Don't let it die people, let it multiply.
------------------------
And don't envision the 4th Joker as black either or a woman. He's not Ripcord, for pity's sake. These are cherished characters of our planet, don't mess with the characters - just the story.
-------------------------
AND with that said... I'm not being hippocritical because WE CAN still make Solid Snake a member of G.I. Joe under a different codename because we aren't altering the character. We're just giving it more depth and adding to it.
-------------------------
Don't think I can work the Four Jokers subplot into the same storyline with G.I. Joe, Metal Gear, and Solid Snake? Fine. Stick with what you know and keep accepting your death in 74.3 years just like you were told. I'm going to attempt to do this. Put that in your pipe and smoke it founding fathers because I've got plans for you at my studio.

This is a real post from someone in the movie forums. If their was some sort of reward for intelligent posts, do you think maybe this guy would have thought twice about posting this garbage?

There's already a reputation system built within vB, a lot of forums use it. We don't, for several reasons, up to and including the abuse listed above.

The long story short, is that a persons reputation will follow them, and it makes it easier to prevent SHH from becoming more of a popularity contest than it already is.

I read that and it's like someone slapped my brain in the face

There has to be something that helps encourage more intelligent posts. The Reps are the easiest thing I can think of. But there has to be something so garbage is posted all the time.

No contest, I already won.

I don't feel we need colored names or rep points. This is a forum, we come here to have fun and discuss things. Of course you will have the non-intelligent posts, but that's fine as long as no one is disrespecting another persons opinion to the point of bullying. Mods are here to control spammers, tolls and what have you. I feel we don't need to make things more complicated by having colored names and rep points. People come and go here, some people seem to have a hard time with that due to putting effort in to making new friends, but that's forums for you. Always MSN. I could be wrong, rep points and colored names could work for another forums, but for now I'm against it.

I will again disagree wholeheartedly with this idea. I've seen it implemented on a site much bigger than this one and it resulted in even more trolling, abuse and clique-ishness than existed before it was in place. I say nay! NAY!!! :cmad:

At any rate, if there is a Mod's Washroom, why are all of them so damn DIRTY!?

I don't think a rep system would prevent trolling or inadequate posting. You think all posters would care about their e-rep on a forum. Not likely. It seems that rep points would just serve as a way to gang up on posters whom already have a less then servicable E-rep.

The other thing that happens is that some people go out of their way to amass negative reps by trolling and generally being buttheads in a fashion that just skirts the rules so they don't get banned for it. Some of them even treat it like a contest to see who can get the most negative reps.

That is a very good point, and one I didn't think of, I can think of a good number of posters on The Hype that would love that challenge.
