I don't quite understand how that would work. Every picture that I see linked is unique for the most part, and just needs to be put in the individual's photo-hosting account.

No, I guess I was too vague. What I meant was that they would be SHH-specific images. Like you know how we have unique smilies and emoticons? Well, we'd have unique pictures for the site. These would be separate from the ones that people can upload themselves...

C.Lee, was I supposed to read your comment as sarcastic? I mean I had just made a thread about thanksgiving where I had uploaded numerous images. Suggesting that image hosting is complicated seems kind of uncalled for.

It's cool if no one likes the idea...But I'd at least like for people to understand it before rejecting it.

Image hosting is by far the easiest thing to do in the world. I actually find hotlinking a lot more difficult and time consuming.

I understand what you're saying. What you're suggesting would not make the forum better, it would just make it easier to use for the lazy.

I think it is a situation where it might slow down the site, but I understand what you mean. I think the best way to go his photobucket and other hosting sites.

I wasn't being sarcastic....and I wasn't implying that image hosting is complicated. I was saying that it is easy to do (and illustrated that point by saying that even I, a person who has enormous trouble understanding how to do things on a computer, has managed to set up a photobucket account) and as such, I didn't feel that a board run cache of pics is needed.

You know what would be cool? A "kudos" system.

Every time you make an intelligent, well written topic, you're allowed one kudo per person. When you reach a certain number of kudos, then you get a forumer spotlight.

So like, Colossal Spoons makes posts, and we all give him kudos. A couple of weeks later he has 1,000 kudos. At that point he'd be allowed to have a picture signature for a week. But only him. Because he earned the kudos, or something like that.

And then the top would be 20,000 kudos or something like that. And for a day, Colossal could pick the background image for the site, or maybe the color scheme or something. But only him and only for that day because of his score.

I hope I explained that well enough. I think it would be cool and because it would take so long for people to earn "kudos" that there would be enough down time in between.

And to ensure that they aren't being spammed or wasted. Each forumer can only give ONE kudo a day. So you essentially would have to pick your favorite post of the day, and you can't give yourself one.

We'd all start out with 0 and, again, 20,000 would be the highest.

While I don't mind the system, others have shown its ability to abuse or be manipulated.

since it's come up multiple times, I think it should be considered in some format. Perhaps in conjunction with the coloured name idea.

I'd also change the one a day to five but only one a day to a single member.

I put the kabosh on the colored names, for the simple fact that I do still try to work on forum color schemes and themes, and as such, having a bunch of different user levels be different colors makes it harder.

Can you imagine all the silly questions that would follow by the new folks too lazy to read the FAQ thread? There would be endless cries of "Well, how do I get a colored name?" :p

I still get that now. "How do I get an avvy?" "Why is my avvy so small?" :p

In the other forum I've seen something similar to this on, it was VERY abused.

eehhh...

so, so far, nothing mentioned here has been implemented?

could we at least have a vote on what sites we have on those tags. Having a tag to google is kinda useless since....it's google. I've never even used the tag system.

To be fair, it's not that it's not implemented because they're bad ideas--A lot that has been mentioned here has gone to discussion in the mod area. Some don't get implemented simply because it's impossible, or in some instances, security risks.

As for the bookmark links at the end of the thread, I think it's all or nothing. I'm waiting for my ride, cause I'm headed out for the weekend, but I'll take a look when I get back.

Ok, see this is a prime case of what most of us are talking about here. Wompum, who usually posts in the comics forum was forced to change his avatar. What was the avatar? Well you might remember it as the the AT-AT humping the fallen AT-AT. Now, while you can argue that the subject matter is offensive, he's had that avatar for over a year. Now it's an issue? What changed? What is so freaking offensive about a robot humping another robot. If I had an avatar of a dog humping Drakon's new leg, would that be offensive or would we just laugh and think it's cute? Seriously, why the sudden knee-jerk need to force him to change an avatar that has been ok for a year.

I actually don't know the poster so ive got no idea if he has had the same avvy for a year, we got some complaints, he was asked (NOT told) if he would mind changing it.

Hunter, that's semantics. What would have happened if he said he did mind? You would then not ask, but tell him to change it. And who the hell was complaining? Moviefan? That's the only type of person that could get offended by two robots having simulated sex.

The complaints were from female posters, and no he would not be forced, you should know me better than that. I once had a Scarlett Johanson side boob avvy that offended a couple of posters, Dew asked me if I'd mind changing, she made it clear I was not being made to but that my avvy was on the line for the site, same deal here.

Ok fine, I believe you, but I'm not going to like it. :cmad: :csad:

So, what should my new avy be? This one is christmassy sure, but how long will that hold out?

An AT-AT humping an AT-ST. Because an AT-AT humping an AT-AT is too offensive.
